Opis:
The main interest of this work is focused on the localization in energy of the different photon absorption mechanisms occurring in fluoride systems doped with rare earth ions by recording the visible luminescence excited by UV and VUV photons between 5 to 25 eV. Low temperature experiments have provided opportunity to measure in good conditions the charge transfer and the excited 4f$\text{}^{ n-1}$5d configuration transitions in the LaF$\text{}_{3}$:Ln$\text{}^{3+}$, O$\text{}^{2-}$ systems (Ln = Eu, Dy, Er).

Opis:
An LiF:F$\text{}_{2}^{+}$ color center laser using a two-mirror cavity is reported. The LiF:F$\text{}_{2}^{+}$ laser was achieved by creating the F$\text{}_{2}^{+}$ centers through the photoionization of the F$\text{}_{2}$ color centers at room temperature and simultaneously by exciting the F$\text{}_{2}^{+}$ centers optically. We obtained the F$\text{}_{2}^{+}$ broadband laser oscillation with a peak at 930 nm, and it was more powerful than the room-temperature broadband LiF:F$\text{}_{3}^{+}$ color center laser.

Opis:
Solid solution crystals $(Lu_{x}Gd_{1-x})_2SiO_5$ single doped with $Sm^{3+}$ and $Dy^{3+}$ were grown by the Czochralski method. Segregation coefficients Lu/Gd, melting temperatures and structures of solid solution crystals were determined for 0.15 ≤ x ≤ 0.8. It was found that for x ≥ 0.17 the crystals belong to the monoclinic system within a space group C2/c and their melting temperature diminishes monotonously from 1990C to 1780C when x decreases from 0.8 to 0.15. Disparity of ionic radii of $Lu^{3+}$ and $Gd^{3+}$ induces structural disorder that brings about an inhomogeneous broadening of spectral lines in absorption and emission spectra of incorporated luminescent $Sm^{3+}$ and $Dy^{3+}$ ions. Optical properties of obtained crystals were determined based on results of measurement of absorption and emission spectra and luminescence decay curves. Spectroscopic investigation revealed that $Sm^{3+}$ doped crystals show intense emission distributed in the visible-near infrared region with the most intense band centred at 605 nm and characterized by a branching ratio of 0.43. Emission spectrum of $Dy^{3+}$ doped crystals is dominated by a band centred at 575 nm and characterized by a branching ratio of 0.58. It has been concluded that the systems under study are potential laser materials able to generate visible emission upon GaN/InGaN laser diode pumping.

Opis:
We have predicted the phase transition pressure in some alkali halides using an interatomic potential approach based on rigid ion model. This potential form represents the composite form of the inverse power dependence and exponential dependence of the repulsive energy on interionic distance. Some thermoelastic properties such as second order elastic constants have been calculated using the same potential. The phase transition pressures (28.69 and 2.4 GPa) obtained by us for two alkali halides (NaCl and KCl) are in closer agreement with their corresponding experimental data (29.0 and 2.0 GPa). This approach is promising with respect to prediction of the phase transition pressure of other alkali halides as well.

Opis:
Macrocyclic and macropolycyclic ligands incorporating heteroaromatic N-oxides (3,3'-biisoquinoline-2,2'-dioxide) form strongly luminescent complexes with lanthanide ions: Eu(III) and Tb(III). Most of these complexes are stable water solutions, with excellent luminescent properties, regarding luminescence lifetimes in the range of 0.2-0.7 ms, and the quantum yields for emission up to 0.25. Several complexes are stable also in the presence of affecting ions, such as Ca(II), or phosphates. These features make them attractive as potential fluorescent labels for time-resolved fluoroimmunoassays.
