Opis:
This paper reviews the experimental and theoretical results obtained during work on the modern semiconductor devices employing one-dimensional photonic structures. After short review of the physical features of structures consisting of 1D stack of the alternating high and low index layers, particular attention will be given to unique features of the devices employing microcavities: resonant cavity LEDs, resonant-cavity enhanced photo-detectors, vertical cavity surface emitting lasers, and also vertical external cavity surface emitting lasers. At the end the semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors are discussed.

Opis:
Nanocomposite materials containing Fe₂O₃ and Gd₂O₃ nanoparticles with the same concentration were prepared by nanocasting method. At this procedure silica matrix serves as nanoreactor for growth of nanoparticles. Temperature and external dc field dependences of the magnetization both samples were compared. Composite containing Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles shows superparamagnetic behaviour with blocking temperature around 45 K. Otherwise, paramagnetic properties were observed for the sample with Gd₂O₃ (above 10 K). Additionally, due to free pores the silica matrix could serve as medium to increase the number of bonded water molecules. These properties together with appropriate magnetic characteristics make studied materials suitable for magnetic resonance imaging applications.

Opis:
In this study silicon-multi walled carbon nanotube (Si-MWCNT) lithium ion battery anodes were produced and their electrochemical galvanostatic charge/discharge tests were conducted at various (25°C, 35°C, 50°C) temperatures to determine the cyclic behaviors of anode at different temperatures. Anodes were produced via vacuum filtration and DC magnetron sputtering technique. Silicon was sputtered onto buckypapers to form composite structure of anodes. SEM analysis was conducted to determine morphology of buckypapers and Si-MWCNT composite anodes. Structural and phase analyses were conducted via X-ray diffraction and Raman Spectroscopy technique. CR2016 coin cells were assembled for electrochemical tests. Cyclic voltammetry test were carried out to determine the reversibility of reactions between anodes and reference electrode between 0.01-2.0 V potential window. Galvanostatic charge/discharge tests were performed to determine cycle performance of anodes at different temperatures.
