The work is devoted to studies of ultrafast magnetization dynamics induced by femtosecond laser pulses in ferromagnetic Ni-Mn-Sn shape memory Heusler alloy. We studied epitaxial thin Ni_{54.3}Mn_{31.9}Sn_{13.8} film deposited on (001) MgO substrate. Spin precession in an external magnetic field was triggered and detected by the time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (TRMOKE) using pump-probe technique in dual color scheme experiment. Measurements were performed as a function of magnetic field H and pulse power P. The measured TRMOKE signal is composed of oscillatory and background components, both decaying exponentially in a nanosecond time scale. The precession frequency was determined and found to be varying in the range of 1-10 GHz with H up to 3 kOe and decreasing linearly with P. The dependence of Gilbert damping parameter α on H was determined and discussed.

Opis:
YVO₄ phosphors with different morphologies were synthesized by trisodium citrate (Na₃cit) surfactant-assisted hydrothermal process. Effects of molar ratio of $\text{cit}^{3-}$ to $Y^{3+}$ and pH value of reaction solution were intensively investigated on the morphologies, structures and luminescence properties of YVO₄ phosphor. The morphologies of the YVO₄ particles can be effectively controlled in strong acidic and strong alkaline environment by affecting the adsorption of $\text{cit}^{3-}$ on the (001) crystal plane of YVO₄. Strong acidic condition resulted into excessive adsorption of $\text{cit}^{3-}$ groups on the YVO₄ phosphor, which annihilated the superior luminescence of YVO₄ phosphors. On the contrary, strong alkaline condition does not result into the adsorption of $\text{cit}^{3-}$ groups. The synthesized YVO₄ phosphor without adsorption of $\text{cit}^{3-}$ groups showed superior luminescence even though the effective control of the morphology in alkaline condition is not so good as in strong acidic condition.

Opis:
Graphene oxide suspension in various solvents was spin coated on metal organic vapor phase epitaxy grown GaN/saphire layers. Samples were characterised using the Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy, before and after high temperature treatment. We found that graphene oxide was modifed by high temperature treatment, however a considerable modification was also observed as a result of impinged laser light incident due to the measurements. The Raman spectra were decomposed into two contributions showing different behaviour during the Raman scattering measurements.

We present results of μ-Raman and μ-photoluminescence study of few-layer WS₂ flakes that have been locally thinned down by a focused laser beam. The Raman spectroscopy measurements prove that the investigated flake was locally thinned down to a monolayer. Interestingly, μ-photoluminescence experiments allowed us to observe huge intensity fluctuations at the boundary of laser-thinned region. Similar effects were found at the edges of a WS₂ bilayer flake, which has not been subjected to laser-thinning. The origin of the observed time evolution of the photoluminescence response is discussed in terms of potential fluctuations resulting from light-induced changes of the charge state of defects.

We report on the Raman scattering from single-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) deposited on various substrates: Si/SiO₂, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), sapphire, as well as suspended. Room temperature Raman scattering spectra are investigated under both resonant (632.8 nm) and non-resonant (514.5 nm) excitations. A rather weak influence of the substrate on the Raman scattering signal is observed. The most pronounced, although still small, is the effect of h-BN, which manifests itself in the change of energy positions of the E' and A'₁ Raman modes of single-layer MoS₂. We interpret this modification as originating from van der Waals interaction between the MoS₂ and h-BN layers.

Oxyhalogenides of bismuth BiOX (X=Cl, Br and I) are very interesting materials which find various applications as X-ray luminescent screens, anti-Stokes (frequency upshift) converters, luminophors, and photoconducting analyzers of linear polarized radiation. Since each primitive cell consist of six monoatomic sites, the structure of the reduced representation of the 15 normal modes of vibration is: Γ= $2A_{1g}(Ra.)+B_{1g}(Ra.)+ 3E_{g}(Ra.)+ 2A_{2u}(i.r.)+ 2E_{u}(i.r.)$, in which the vibrations of $A_{1g}$, $B_{1g}$ and $E_{g}$ species are active in the Raman spectrum and those of $A_{2u}$ and $E_{u}$ species are active in the infrared (i.r.) spectrum. The Raman active modes are observed in frequency range 55 - 225 $cm^{-1}$, 50 - 185 $cm^{-1 }$, and 45 - 175 $cm^{-1}$ for the BiOCl, BiOBr and BiOI single crystals respectively.

Research of a monolayer and a bulk $MoS_2$ is reported. The room temperature Raman spectra of the natural $MoS_2$ crystals for the both resonant (632.8 nm) and the non-resonant (532 nm) excitation are presented. The apparent differences observed in the spectra from the bulk and the one monolayer $MoS_2$ are discussed. In particular, the feature due to a first order scattering involving the LA(M) phonon in the resonance Raman spectrum of the one monolayer $MoS_2$ was observed and explained in terms of the disorder in the natural crystal. The disorder is also documented by the line-shape of the room-temperature photoluminescence spectra observed from both the bulk and the one monolayer $MoS_2$.

Phosphate glasses having compositions $(59.5-x)P_2O_5-40MgO-xAgCl-0.5Er_2O_3$, where x=0, 1.5 mol.% is prepared using melt-quenching technique. Infrared, absorption and photoluminescence spectra of $Er^{3+}$-doped magnesium phosphate glasses have been reported. The amorphous nature of the host glass is confirmed by X-ray diffraction technique. Transmission electron microscope image confirms the existence of silver nanoparticles inside the glass matrix. The localized surface plasmon resonance band of silver is found to be located around ≈ 528 nm for the $Er^{3+}$ free sample. A frequency upconversion process from infrared to visible is observed on excitation with 797 nm radiation. Furthermore, an enhancement in the emission at 540 nm and 632 nm is found due to the local field effect of silver nanoparticles. Our findings may contribute towards the development of solid state laser and sensors.

This article reports on the new results on phase transitions, mesomorphic and electro-optical properties of new equimolecular mixture of calamitic and bent-core thiobenzoates. Two following liquid crystals were the components of the binary mixture: (S)-(+)-4-(1-methylheptyloxy)biphenyl 4'-octylthiobenzoate (MHOBS8) having rode-like, calamitic-chiral molecules possessing among others ferroelectric smectic C (SmC*) and bis [4-(4'-octylphenylthiocarbonyl)phenyl] isophtalates from a homologous series of banana-shaped thioesters, referred to as IFOS8, where n = 8 denoted the number of carbon atoms in terminal alkyl chains in both mesogens, synthesized by us. The IFOS8 compound has two enantiotropic phases: B2 with antiferroelectric order and B6. The mesomorphic properties were investigated by means of three complementary methods: differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light optical microscopy, and transmitted light intensity. Electro-optical measurements were also carried out.

Phosphorus ion implantation was used for the emitter formation in mono- and multicrystalline silicon solar cells. After ion implantation the silicon is strongly disordered or amorphous within the ion range. Therefore subsequent annealing is required to remove the implantation damage and activate the doping element. Flash-lamp annealing offers here an alternative route for the emitter formation at overall low thermal budget. During flash-lamp annealing, only the wafer surface is heated homogeneously to very high temperatures at ms time scales, resulting in annealing of the implantation damage and electrical activation of phosphorus. However, variation of the pulse time also allows to modify the degree of annealing of the bulk region to some extent as well, which can have an influence on the gettering behaviour of metallic bulk impurities. The μ-Raman spectroscopy showed that the silicon surface is amorphous after ion implantation. It could be demonstrated that flash-lamp annealing at 800°C for 20 ms even without preheating is sufficient to recrystallize implanted silicon. The highest carrier concentration and efficiency as well as the lowest resistivity were obtained after annealing at 1200°C for 20 ms both for mono- and multicrystalline silicon wafers. Photoluminescence results point towards P-cluster formation at high annealing temperatures which affects metal impurity gettering within the emitter.

The kinetics of ferritin adsorption on gold (Au) surface was studied with ellipsometry and atomic force microscopy. The thickness and the refraction index of the adsorbed layer were determined using a theoretical model system: air-interface layer-solution-adsorbed layer-gold surface. The relations between the parameters of the adsorbed layer and pH and the protein concentration are obtained. It seems that the ferritin adsorption is a relatively slow multi-stage process. The obtained results enable modelling of the protein adsorption on blood vessels and tissues in pathological processes. The kinetics of protein adsorption could be implemented in medical applications and in development of new biosensor systems.

Phonon-phonon interactions were investigated in various nanocrystalline powders like anatase $TiO_{2-δ}$, pure $CeO_{2-δ}$ and ceria doped with Nd(Gd) analyzing temperature dependent Raman spectra of these systems. Phonon confinement model based on size, inhomogeneous strain and anharmonic effects was used to properly describe the evident changes present in the Raman spectra of pure and doped ceria nanocrystalline samples. In small particles of pure and doped ceria nanocrystals, when size effects have minor impact on Raman modes, four phonon anharmonic processes prevail under the three-phonon ones. When nanopowdered particles are grown enough size effects provoke changes of the anharmonic interactions when three-phonon coupling prevails over the four-phonon anharmonic processes. In nanocrystalline anatase $TiO_2$ evident blueshift of the most prominent $E_g$ Raman mode probably originates from dominant four-phonon anharmonic interactions.

This work focuses on the high pressure Raman study of carbon nanostuctures comprising of single- or double-wall carbon nanotubes. The detailed examination of the Raman peaks, especially those attributed to the radial breathing modes of the carbon nanotubes, as a function of pressure provides a wealth of information concerning the pressure response of individual nanotubes as well as the internal-external tube (intratube) interactions. The radial breathing modes of both the internal and the external tubes in double-wall carbon nanotubes show reduced pressure slope values as compared to the corresponding in single-wall carbon nanotubes. The reduced slopes for the internal tubes reflect the pressure screening effect inside the external tubes, while those for the external tubes their structural reinforcement due to the encapsulation of smaller diameter tubes in their interior. Moreover, the magnitude of the pressure screening effect depends strongly on the intratube spacing and thus on the intratube interaction. All the experimental observations are well reproduced qualitatively by means of theoretical calculations based on a simple phenomenological model.

$PbI_2$, $BiI_3$, $CdI_2$ and AgI crystalline samples intercalated with pyridine have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. Comparing the Raman spectra of pristine metal iodides with those of intercalated samples we have shown the coexistence, in the host crystalline lattice, of two adsorbed forms: a physisorbed one, featured by weak forces of van der Waals type and a chemisorbed one, involving stronger forces related to an electrostatic interaction. The physisorbed form is consistent with the molecules inserted into the interlayer spaces while the chemisorbed form is represented by the molecules forming coordination complexes with the crystalline lattice cations. The crucial role in the formation of such complexes is played by the lone pair of nitrogen atom belonging to the molecules.
