Opis:
The surface sensitive magneto-optical Kerr effect methods and conversion as well as integral low-energy electron Mössbauer spectroscopy are used to compare the surface magnetic and microstructural properties of two Metglas alloys with compositions $Fe_{80}Si_6B_{14}$ and $Fe_{80}Si_{10}B_{10}$. It is shown that the samples differ markedly both in the Mössbauer spectra and the surface hysteresis loops. While the ribbon with lower amount of Si is amorphous and characterized by three contributions corresponding to clusters with prevailing content of Fe and Si atoms, to clusters of mainly Fe and B atoms, and regions in between, the surface of the second sample is partially crystallized into bcc-FeSi crystals embedded in the residual amorphous matrix.

In this work we present magnetic properties of the $(Fe_{80}Nb_6B_{14})_{1-x}M_x$ (where M = Ni, Ag, Gd, Tb and x = 0.08, 0.16, 0.32) bulk nanocrystalline alloys prepared by making use of mould casting technique. The applied preparation technique is favorable to nanocrystallization of the alloys with mean diameters of crystallites ranged from about 10 nm to 30 nm. Phase identification reveals a formation of ternary $RE_2Fe_{14}B$ and binary $REFe_2$ phases dependently on the alloy composition. It was found that for the alloys with Ag addition magnetic moment of Fe atom increases from 2.26 $μ_{B}$ to 3.36 $μ_{B}$ for x = 0.08 and x = 0.32, respectively. For Ni addition this quantity decreases with increasing x due to appearing of Fe-Ni (fcc) phases. For Gd, Tb additions the alloys are ferrimagnetic with compensation composition ranged between x = 0.08 and x = 0.16. The both rare earth alloying additions cause a significant magnetic hardening especially in the case of Tb.

The paper refers to magnetic and structure properties of the $(Fe_{80}Nb_{6}B_{14})_{1-x}Pt_{x}$ (x=0.15, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.6) bulk nanocrystalline alloys prepared using the vacuum suction casting technique. The samples were in the form of rods with diameters ranging from 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm. It was shown that the optimal Pt content is x=0.4 with the coercive field equal to 0.2 T and maximum energy product $|BH|_{max}=11.2 kJ//m^{3}$. The magnetic properties can be associated with Fe-Pt, Fe and Fe-B phases, depending on the alloy composition.

Three kinds of commercial Nd-Fe-B based materials were compared using $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray analysis: near the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ stoichiometry and with both lowered and raised Nd content. Magnetically hard $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ is present in all three materials. In the Nd-low material it is accompanied with the magnetically soft $Fe_3B$ phase, building the nanocomposite structure. In the Nd-rich sample the overstoichiometric Nd atoms seem to build separate phase of Fe-Nd solid solution. None of the materials contain significant content of phases degrading magnetic characteristics, with except of minor $Nd_{1.1}Fe_4B_4$ one.

We investigated the magnetic properties of ultrathin magnetite films deposited directly on MgO(001) and on a Fe(001) buffer layer. In both cases the magnetite surface structure could be identified using low energy electron diffraction. The conversion electron MÖssbauer spectroscopy measurements proved that, for magnetite films deposited on the Fe buffer, superparamagnetic relaxation was strongly suppressed. The effect of a Fe overlayer on the magnetite film grown directly on MgO is considerably weaker. Longitudinal Kerr magnetometry indicated the presence of the ferromagnetic interfacial coupling between Fe and magnetite films. We conclude that the density of antiphase boundaries for films grown on the Fe buffer is lower than that of $Fe_3O_4$/MgO films.

Opis:
The investigations of the hyperfine interactions in $Pt_{3}Fe$ with the noncollinear magnetic order by means of ab initio methods are presented. It is shown that the ground state magnetic order of $Pt_{3}Fe$ is of noncollinear character. Electric field gradient and hyperfine magnetic field at $\text{}^{57}Fe$ nucleus were calculated and their dependence on the strength of Coulomb correlation interaction is discussed. The calculated values of electric field gradient correspond with the experimental data and the best agreement was found when the enhanced Coulomb correlation interaction for 3d-states of Fe was considered. Lattice, local valence electron (3d, 4p) and weakly bound 3p semicore electron contributions to electric field gradient are separated out and discussed.

Opis:
The Er$\text{}_{2-x}$Th$\text{}_{x}$Fe$\text{}_{14}$B (x=0.5, 1.0, 1.5) polycrystalline compounds have been investigated with $\text{}^{57}$Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy in the 50-330 K temperature range and magnetometry in the temperature range of 4.2-340 K. Initial magnetization vs. temperature measurements allowed us to establish the temperature regions of reorientations and also the Curie temperatures of the compounds. The spin reorientation phenomena (changes from planar to axial spin arrangements) have been studied extensively by a narrow step temperature Mössbauer scanning in the vicinity of the spin reorientation temperatures. From the analysis of the obtained Mössbauer spectra it was deduced that in the region of transition each subspectrum was split into two Zeeman sextets, which were characterised by different hyperfine magnetic fields and quadrupole splittings. A consistent way of describing the Mössbauer spectra in the wide range of temperatures was proposed. The composition and temperature dependences of hyperfine interaction parameters and subspectra contributions were derived from experimental spectra. The transition temperatures were determined for all the compounds studied and the spin phase diagram was constructed.

Opis:
The structural and microscopic magnetic properties of the pseudobinary $Sc(Fe_{1-x}Ni_x)_2$ system prepared under high pressure of 8 GPa were studied by X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer measurements in the range of 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.60. The samples for 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.10 have the hexagonal C14-type structure and those for 0.30 ≤ x ≤ 0.60 crystallize in the C15-type structure. Both the magnetic hyperfine field on $\text{}^{57}Fe$ and the Curie temperature decrease with the increasing Ni content and the system becomes paramagnetic for x ≈ 0.60 at room temperature. The form and temperature dependences of the Mössbauer spectra for 0.40 ≤ x ≤ 0.50 indicate the coexistence of paramagnetic and ferromagnetic regions in the samples and occurrence of magnetic clusters with a wide distribution of the Curie temperatures. It is interesting that $T_C$ for the compounds obtained under high pressure are by about 100 K smaller in comparison with those for the isostructural samples produced under normal pressure even though interatomic distances are practically equal in the both types of compounds.

Bimetallic oxalate ${[N-(n-C_4H_9)_4][FeFe(C_2O_4)_3]}_{n}$ has been investigated by the Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Mössbauer studies confirm that high-spin Fe(III) (S=5/2) and Fe(II) (S=2) ions are present in the compound. These spectra above 60 K consist of three quadrupole doublets, indicating that there are three different Fe sites in the material. The Mössbauer results reveal that spontaneous magnetization of Fe(II) sublattices increases more steeply than that of Fe(III) sublattices as the temperature decreases from $T_{C}$. Great increase of quadrupole splitting at 50 K provides compelling evidence for the predicted Jahn-Teller transition.

Multicomponent single phase alloys were synthesized according to the idea of iron-average atom system. X-ray diffraction shows formation of bcc phase and traces of unidentified phase. Mössbauer spectra indicate presence of two components with different hyperfine magnetic field distributions. The high field component corresponds to the majority ferromagnetic phase. Few per cent of iron builds low field component. The dominant effect of annealing consists in an increase of the low field component.

Magnetic and structural studies were performed on $Fe_{50}Co_{50}$ material. The samples (disk-shaped, diameter: 10 mm, thickness: 2.5 mm) were fabricated by compaction of powder under pressure of 800 MPa for 5 min at temperatures 300-600°C. The powder was obtained by milling of $Fe_{50}Co_{50}$ alloy swarfs in high-energy planetary mill. The milling time varied from 1 h to 40 h. In the course of milling process the mean size of alloy pieces was decreasing from about 0.5 mm to 0.05 mm (scanning electron microscopy), which provided more compact structure after compression. The annealing process during compaction strongly reduces a coercive field of the samples. Parameters of conversion electron Mössbauer spectra are almost the same for all samples, which points to not significant changes of atomic and magnetic order after milling and compacting.

In this work, a ⁵⁷Fe conversion electron Mössbauer spectrometry and X-ray diffraction have been utilized in order to investigate the structural and magnetic order in 500 nm thick Ni-Zn ferrite films deposited on Si(100) substrate by laser ablation. Considering the contributions of the conversion electron Mössbauer subspectra corresponding to the tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites, the spinel inversion parameter in [Zn_{x}Fe_{1-x}]^{A}[Ni_{1-x}Fe_{1+x}]^{B}O₄ films has been estimated. The hyperfine field (B_{hf}) values in the investigated Ni-Zn ferrites thin films are about 5-8% smaller than those of bulk ferrites, which could be a sign of thermal magnetic relaxations due to the size effects. The distribution of hyperfine magnetic field directions was found to be affected by perpendicular anisotropy.

The detailed analysis of atomic and magnetic structure has been performed by Mössbauer spectroscopy for polycrystalline $Fe_{80}Ga_{20}$ films of different thickness ranging from 20 nm to 200 nm. The films were deposited on Si(100) substrate using dual sputtering and evaporation method. Obtained CEMS spectra have been fitted with several Gaussian distributions of hyperfine magnetic field. The results point to the domination of BCC disordered A2 phase and the absence of $DO_{3}$ and $L1_{2}$ phases in the films. Both hyperfine parameters and lattice constant reveal anomaly for 40 nm thick sample - presumably due to the change of the internal stress. Spin texture evolves from in-plane to out-of-the-plane configuration with increasing thickness.
