Opis:
Polarization-resolved photoluminescence from two-dimensional GaAs/GaAlAs heterostructures doped with acceptors was studied in high magnetic fields. Measurements were carried out in low temperatures up to 2 K and magnetic field up to 21 T. Experiments performed in the Faraday configuration enabled to resolve hole states with different spin orientation. We observed a nonlinear behavior of valence-band g factor in strong magnetic fields. To explain obtained results, a detailed theoretical calculation was carried out based on the Luttinger model for valence-band states. We examined the spin splitting of hole levels under the influence of both external magnetic field and built-in electric field existing in doped heterostructures. Changes of hole g factor with the width of the structure and the density of two-dimensional carriers are discussed.

Thermoelectric properties of silicene nanoribbons doped with magnetic impurity atoms are investigated theoretically for both antiparallel and parallel orientations of the edge magnetic moments. Spin density distribution and transport parameters have been determined by ab-initio numerical methods based on the density functional theory. Doping with magnetic atoms considerably modifies the spin density distribution, leading to a ground state with a non-zero magnetic moment. Apart from this, the spin thermopower can be considerably enhanced by the impurity atoms.

Using ab initio methods, we study transport and thermoelectric phenomena of magnetic organic chains functionalized with nitroxide groups. We predict very good thermoelectric performance of the structure, as the conventional and spin Seebeck coefficients are remarkably enhanced. Our results suggest that magnetic organic chains would have a great potential for applications in spintronic devices.

The aim of this paper was to study the phase constitution, magnetic properties and magnetization reversal processes in the rapidly solidified bulk (Pr,Dy)-(Fe,Co)-B alloys doped with Zr, Ti, Mn and Ni. The 3 mm outer diameter tubes samples of the $Pr₈Dy₁Fe₆₀Co₇Ni_{(6x)}MnₓB₁₄Zr₁Ti₃$ (where x = 0, 3, 6) alloys were produced by suction-casting technique. The admixture of Zr was introduced in order to improve their glass forming abilities while Dy was substituted to enhance the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of hard magnetic phase. The effect of Ni and Mn addition on the phase constitution and magnetic properties was studied in the presented work.

In the present work the magnetic properties and phase constitution of $(Nd₁₀Fe₆₇B₂₃)_{100-x}Nbₓ$ (where x = 1, 2, 4) alloys in the form of ribbons were investigated. The base alloys were prepared by arc-melting the high purity elements with pre-alloyed Fe-B under an Ar atmosphere. The ribbon samples were obtained by controlled atmosphere melt-spinning technique. In order to generate the nanocrystalline microstructure and hard magnetic properties, samples were annealed at various temperatures (from 923 K to 1023 K) for 5 min. The aim of the present work was to determine the influence of Nb admixture and annealing conditions on the phase constitution and magnetic properties.

We use the Monte Carlo simulation method to investigate the influence of the signs of magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants and the magnetic dipole-dipole interactions on the zero field cooled-field cooled magnetization experiments and hysteresis curves of a system of magnetic nanoparticles. Positive first cubic anisotropy constant K₁ results in larger blocking temperatures and larger coercive fields of a system, while the second anisotropy constant K₂ is practically of negligible importance for the phenomena investigated. Magnetic dipole-dipole interactions are important only in the most dense systems of particles and their effects practically disappear for systems where the distance between the closest particles exceeds three particle diameters.

We present a theoretical study of magnetic interaction in quantum dots with magnetic $Mn^{2+}$ in dot impurities. We show that gate voltage applied to the quantum dot shifts the centers of electron clouds. Exact formulae for the perturbed spin density allow us to derive expression for the change of the strength of the sp-d coupling. Estimations show that sp-d exchange integral is very sensitive to the gate voltage variations. Exact formulae for the change of the effective exchange integrals are derived. As the spin coded qubits are elements of the RAM memory, a part of the energy stored in magnetic coupling will be dissipated when information is written or erased. We estimate this energy and find it sufficiently large to destroy quantum coherence during quantum computing. Finally, we discuss the interdot spin coupling and show the effect of gate voltage operations on the spin intra- and interdot Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida coupling.

The dynamics of magnetization in low-dimensional systems of micromagnets has been a very interesting subject of scientific studies last years. Excitations in such systems may have forms of normal modes. The frequency of the mode can be determined with the use of analytical methods as well as of micromagnetic numerical techniques. One of the latter is the Hamiltonian dynamical matrix method. The method is an analogue of that used to determine oscillations of atoms in crystal. The advantage of it is the possibility of calculating both of all frequencies and profiles of normal modes. Excitations in a finite system can depend on the size of it, as was noticed by experimentalists. The aim of this study is an analysis of eigenstates of the chain consisting of finite numbers of nanomagnets and dependence of states on orientation of magnetic moments and external magnetic field.

A microscopic, or Hamiltonian-based, theory is outlined for studying the spin-wave instability thresholds of the parametric processes occurring in ferromagnetic nanostructures under conditions of pumping with a microwave field. Most previous work has concentrated on spheres or films with dimensions of order several μm or more, with the theoretical interpretation being made in terms of macroscopic (or continuum) methods. At smaller length scales, as in ultrathin films and nanowires with thickness or lateral dimensions less than about 100 nm, the discreteness of the quantized spin waves and their spatial distributions become modified, making it more appropriate to employ a microscopic approach to the nonlinear dynamics with a lattice of effective spins interacting through the magnetic dipole-dipole and exchange interactions. Effects of microwave pumping (in either the parallel or perpendicular configuration) are incorporated in calculations for the instability thresholds of the quantized spin-wave bands in different nanostructures and materials.

The indirect Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) coupling between on-site magnetic impurities is studied for two kinds of graphene nanoflakes consisting of approximately 100 carbon atoms, posessing either zigzag or armchair edge. The tight-binding Hamiltonian with Hubbard term is used in non-perturbative calculations of coupling between the impurities, placed at the edge of the structure. In general, for zigzag-edged nanoflakes a pronounced coupling robust against charge doping is found, while for armchair-edged structures the interaction is weaker and much more sensitive to charge doping. Also the distance dependence of indirect exchange differs significantly for both edge forms.

This paper is devoted to identification of the most important factors responsible for formation of magnetic moments at edges of graphene-like nanoribbons. The main role is attributed to the Hubbard correlations (within unrestricted Hartree-Fock approximation) and intrinsic spin-orbit interactions, but additionally a perpendicular electric field is also taken into account. Of particular interest is the interplay of the in-plane edge magnetism and the energy band gap. It is shown that, with the increasing electric field, typically the following phases develop: magnetic insulator (with in-plane spins), nonmagnetic narrow-band semiconductor, and nonmagnetic band insulator.

The analysis of calorimetric results allowed estimation of the efficiency of the hyperthermal effect, under the influence of an alternating magnetic field. Nanoparticle $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}Mn_{0.7}Fe_{0.3}O_3$ with the average particle size of 10 nm was mechanochemically synthesized in the single-step procedure. Temperature and field dependences of magnetization were recorded under both ambient and applied hydrostatic pressure up to 0.47 GPa. At ambient pressure, two magnetic transition points were observed: one of the spin-glass like type at the temperature $T_{f}$ ≈ 34 K, and ferro-to-paramagnet transition at $T_{C}$ ≈ 51 K. Under the applied pressure magnetic parameters gradually changed: (i) both $T_{C}$ and $T_{f}$ were lowered with the increase in pressure; (ii) both high field magnetization $M_{5T}$ and remanent magnetization $M_{Rem}$ decreased with pressure; (iii) coercivity $H_{C}$ increased with pressure. The obtained results show that magnetism of a nanoparticle system with high degree of intrinsic disorder diminishes with the applied pressure that is in compliance with the effect of the increased cationic disorder ("internal pressure") in bulk manganites.

Thin-film structures composed of two kinds of ferromagnetic material - metallic Fe and semiconducting (Ga,Mn)As - were investigated by means of SQUID magnetometry and ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Dependence of remnant magnetic moment on temperature showed unexpected anisotropic features when recorded along two orthogonal in-plane directions. For one of these orientations, the change in sign of the slope of m(T) curve at the Curie point of (Ga,Mn)As was observed, while for the other, an analogous m(T) curve retained monotonic character. Based on the comparison with ferromagnetic resonance data, the apparent non-monotonicity was attributed to the temperature-induced change of balance between the external magnetic field and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in the plane of Fe layer.

Graphene nanomeshes are the nanostructures consisting of graphene flake with a regular pattern of antidots (holes) punched through it. Thanks to the energy gaps opening in electronic spectrum, nanomesh-based transistors offer improved I_{on}/I_{off} ratio of the collector current while supporting up to 100 larger driving currents than nanoribbon-based devices. In this paper the electronic and magnetic structure of graphene nanomeshes with hexagonally shaped antidots was studied. It has been found that the internal zigzag edges support magnetic moments and that lowest energy magnetic configuration is antiferromagnetic. The density of states calculated for ground state configuration exhibit the energy gap which can be substantially reduced upon switching (e.g. by external magnetic field) to ferromagnetic configuration. Based on this we predict that the structure will exhibit magnetoresistive effect, which makes graphene nanomeshes of this kind relevant for spintronic applications.

Opis:
CoNiFe and NiFe nanowires were electrochemically produced by dc electrodeposition on highly ordered porous anodic alumina oxide templates. Scanning electron microscope images of nanowires after removing the alumina membrane showed that these nanowires are uniform with the diameters of about 220-300 nm and about 25-30 μm length. The energy dispersive X-ray analysis showed that the composition of the nanowires is $Ni_{88}Fe_{12}$, $Co_7Ni_{82}Fe_{11}$. Magnetic field was applied by an electromagnet and resistance was measured by four point technique.

Opis:
In this work we demonstrate a novel experimental approach to the study of single photon correlations. The introduction of the multichannel detection setup enables the simultaneous measurement of a large number of correlation functions for photons emitted from different energetic ranges. The advantages of this new approach were exploited in a detailed study of the biexciton-exciton recombination cascade in CdTe/ZnTe quantum dots doped with a few $Mn^{2+}$ ions. The information about the dynamics of the magnetic system in the quantum dot during the lifetime of the exciton was obtained from the analysis of the correlation functions.

Opis:
In this work we have studied the structural and magnetic properties of "as-prepared" multiwalled carbon nanotubes, synthesized by the chemical vapor deposition method, and chemically modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Transmission electron microscopy was used to show multiwalled carbon nanotubes structure. The results of systematic magnetic property measurements on multiwalled carbon nanotubes are presented. The static and dynamic magnetic responses, such as the temperature dependence of the linear AC susceptibility and DC magnetization up to 9 T were studied. We have observed significant changes in magnetic AC susceptibility and magnetization for "as-prepared" and chemically modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes samples.

Opis:
In this work, NiFe nanowires were grown in highly ordered porous anodic alumina oxide templates by dc electrodeposition at a pH value of 2.6. Scanning electron microscopy showed that wires have diameters of about 250-310 nm and length 25-30 μm. The energy dispersive X-ray analysis showed that the composition of the nanowires is $Ni_{65}Fe_{35}$. Electrical contacts were made on both sides of the nanowire array and their magnetoimpedance properties were investigated. All the magnetoimpedance curves showed single peak behavior due to the high shape anisotropy. The maximum magnetoimpedance change at the 79 MHz driving current frequency was ≈ 1.45%.

Opis:
Characterization of magnetic behaviour of ferritin nanoparticles of biological origin is presented. Two types of samples prepared from human and horse spleen tissues were investigated by $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectrometry. At room temperature, ferritin nanoparticles exhibit superparamagnetic behaviour due to their small dimensions. First occurrence of magnetic interactions was noticed below 60 K. Blocking temperature of human and horse ferritin nanoparticles was determined to be of 16 K and 32 K, respectively.
