Opis:
Transmittance magneto-optical responses of one-dimensional magnetophotonic heterostructures are investigated using 4 by 4 transfer matrix method. It is shown that in a simple magnetophotonic heterostructure constituted of two different periodic structures, the enhanced Faraday rotation associated with high transmittance at a desired wavelength can be realized with specifying optimized repetition numbers and adjusting the thicknesses of the substructure layers. However, the unique features of multichanneled enhanced Faraday rotations are obtained for different configurations of a multiple magnetophotonic heterostructure and the most suitable one to simultaneously support the both resonance wavelengths of $1.3 μm$ and $1.55 μm$ are introduced. These wavelengths are currently used in telecommunication systems. Then the obtained results may have potential applications in designing the multi-function single magneto-optical devices such as multiple Faraday rotators and wavelength division multiplexing systems.

The main issue addressed in present study is exchange coupling modification between ferromagnetic layers through non-magnetic spacer layers using extra ultra-thin ferromagnetic layers (Co). In order to achieve this goal, we prepared Cr(50 Å) / Py(20 Å) / Co(5 Å) / Cr(7, 10, 13 Å) / Co(5 Å) / Py (30 Å) / Cr(50Å) / Si using magnetron sputtering at UHV conditions and characterized by Ferromagnetic Resonance (FMR) technique. As the present study results were compared to our previous study on (Py/Cr), the exchange coupling energy was increased ten times with the cobalt thin layer

Multiple structures in one-dimensional photonic crystals have great potentials for ultrawide omnireflectors and tunable switches. In this paper, we study the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a one-dimensional heterostructure magnetic photonic crystal for both TE and TM incidence polarizations by means of the transfer matrix method. Results show that by stacking two magnetic photonic crystals as a heterostructure magnetic photonic crystal the omnidirectional total reflection frequency range for any polarization enlarged due to overlapping of photonic band gaps of both magnetic photonic crystals. Omnidirectional band gaps in the heterostructure magnetic photonic crystal is enhanced rather than that in a single magnetic photonic crystal.

Opis:
In this paper, we create an analytical model to investigate the localized defect modes associated with a defect cell inserted into a one-dimensional magnetic photonic crystal. The structure is a magnetic superlattice with alternative layers of two different magnetic permeability containing a defect cell which is a layer of different nature (material or/and size) from the other layers. This leads to appearance of several localized defect modes within the magnetic photonic band gap. Our analytical approach is based on the transfer matrix and Green's function methods to calculate the frequency and number of the defect modes which can be controlled easily by varying parameter values of the constituent layers of the magnetic photonic crystal. This method results in an analytical formula for prediction of frequency of the defect modes for both TE and TM polarizations at arbitrary angle of incidence.

Current-induced spin accumulation in a domain wall and the associated spin torque exerted on the wall are analyzed theoretically. The considerations are limited to a relatively thick Néel domain wall in a bulk ferromagnetic metal. The current-induced spin density is calculated using the linear response theory and the Green function formalism.

Intrinsic biquadratic interlayer coupling in magnetic layered structures is analysed theoretically within the spin-polarized free-electron approximation. The corresponding coupling parameter oscillates with the interlayer thickness with the oscillation period equal to half of that for bilinear term. An extrinsic mechanism following from a competition between the intra- and interlayer exchange coupling is also discussed.

Opis:
Basic features of electronic transport in magnetic layered structures consisting of alternating ferromagnetic and nonmagnetic metallic films are analysed theoretically. The considerations are restricted to magnetoresistance originating from the rotation of the film magnetizations from antiparallel to parallel alignment. The influence of spin-dependent potentials on the transport properties is analysed for both current-in-plane and current-perpendicular-to-plane geometries. Quasi-classical and quantum methods are used to calculate the appropriate conductivity. For current-perpendicular-to-plane geometry the periodic spin-dependent effective electron potential plays an important role and can generate giant magnetoresistance also when the electron scattering by impurities and interface roughness is independent of the spin direction, contrary to the case of current-in-plane geometry when a spin-dependent scattering probability is a necessary condition for the giant magnetoresistance to occur.

In the following we present the role of surface scattering at Au/Co and Au/Ni-Fe interfaces in Ni-Fe/Au/Co/Au multilayers deposited in different temperatures. Specularity parameter, which describes the electron scattering, is calculated from fitting in situ collected conductance data with the Fuchs-Namba-Tesanovic model. Application of the parallel resistors model enabled to depict changes between Au/Co and Au/Ni-Fe interfaces within multilayers for each repetition. The correlation between enhanced grain boundary scattering for higher deposition temperatures and surface roughness of Ni-Fe/Au/Co/Au multilayers is found.

The effect of electron confinement in ultrathin layered magnetic systems is discussed. This leads to quantum size effects which can be observed by photoemission in overlayers. In magnetic multilayers, spectacular oscillatory behavior of the interlayer exchange coupling results from the electron confinement. The quantum size effects manifest themselves also in the magneto-optical properties of ultrathin films.

In this paper we study Fe/Si and Fe/Ge multilayers prepared at room temperature by magnetron sputtering. In situ conductance measurements reveal the formation of interfacial Fe-Si and Fe-Ge mixtures. During the Fe deposition a modification of growth mode is noticed. Deposition of Si (or Ge) onto Fe leads to the reduction of the Fe layer thickness due to interdiffusion, and Fe-Si (or Fe-Ge) structures appear. Above about 1.3 nm of deposited Si (1.5 nm of Ge) nominally pure Si (Ge) starts growing. Surface topography of the Fe/Si multilayers is studied by atomic force microscopy.

A simple infinite-range model of axial quadrupolar glass is investigated within the cavity-fields approach inside a pure state and a cluster of pure states. Working at a level of a pure state, the nonlinear susceptibility is derived. When a cluster of pure states is considered, all the known results of the one-step replica-symmetry breaking approach are easily reproduced. Besides, the nonlinear susceptibility and the stability conditions are obtained and related numerical results are presented. In this way the stability range of the replica-symmetry breaking solution, quite difficult to be derived within the replica method, is established on the purely physical ground. An interesting feature is that, at any considered stage, the nonlinear susceptibility diverges at a given temperature T$\text{}_{c}$ where the quadrupolarization and the quadrupolar glass order parameters are nonzero and finite. This may be interpreted as a signal of a glassy phase transition not in the Landau sense.

Opis:
A brief overview is given on selected effects of the exchange coupling between effective mass electrons and localized spins in II-VI semiconductors containing Mn ions. In the case of a carrier or exciton trapped by an impurity or defect, the exchange interaction leads to zero-field spin-splitting. The current theory of such complexes, known as bound magnetic polarons, describes correctly their spectroscopic and thermodynamic properties as well as their formation dynamics. At the same time, a free magnetic polaron - a delocalized carrier accompanied by a traveling cloud of polarized spins - is not expected to exist for the actual values of the coupling constants. However, hole scattering by thermodynamic and static fluctuations is shown to affect significantly its energy. For a strong coupling, the corresponding renormalization has to be described by a non-perturbative approach. Finally, the influence of the carrier liquid upon the Mn spins is discussed. Here, either optical pumping or p-type doping may lead to a ferromagnetic order, both in bulk and layered structures. Because of a long-range character of the carrier mediated interactions, this ordering is not destroyed by the fluctuations, even in the reduced dimensionality systems.
