Opis:
The surface sensitive magneto-optical Kerr effect methods and conversion as well as integral low-energy electron Mössbauer spectroscopy are used to compare the surface magnetic and microstructural properties of two Metglas alloys with compositions $Fe_{80}Si_6B_{14}$ and $Fe_{80}Si_{10}B_{10}$. It is shown that the samples differ markedly both in the Mössbauer spectra and the surface hysteresis loops. While the ribbon with lower amount of Si is amorphous and characterized by three contributions corresponding to clusters with prevailing content of Fe and Si atoms, to clusters of mainly Fe and B atoms, and regions in between, the surface of the second sample is partially crystallized into bcc-FeSi crystals embedded in the residual amorphous matrix.

We have studied the effect of annealing conditions on magnetic properties of amorphous CoFeNi-based glass-coated microwires. We show that annealing can be very effective for manipulation the magnetic properties of amorphous ferromagnetic glass-coated microwires. Low coercivity and high giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) effect have been observed in as-prepared Co-rich microwires. After annealing of Co-rich microwires we can observe transformation of inclined hysteresis loops into rectangular and coexistence of fast magnetization switching and GMI effect in the same sample. We demonstrate that the switching field value of microwires can be tailored by annealing in the range from 4 to 200 A/m.

$Ni_3Fe$ nanoparticles prepared by calcination of the iron-nickel oxalate were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. The high temperature X-ray diffraction shows two stages of transformation of oxalate: (i) amorphization and (ii) formation of nanocrystalline $Ni_3Fe$ particles. The development of coercivity, magnetization and mean coherence length ( ≈ particle size) is discussed.

In the present study, Fe$\text{}_{41}$Co$\text{}_{41}$B$\text{}_{10}$Zr$\text{}_{7}$Cu$\text{}_{1}$ alloy has been investigated in order to evaluate its thermal stability and structure after heat treatment, as well as the impact of heat treatment on magnetic properties. X-ray diffractometry, differential scanning calorimetry, chemical composition microanalysis, transmission electron microscopy, and magnetic hysteresis loop measurement techniques were employed. The crystallisation temperature of the as-quenched alloy is 490ºC (continuous heating at 5ºC/min). The melt-spun ribbon having 27μm in thickness was annealed for 1 hour at temperatures from 400 to 700ºC. The alloy after treatment at about 550ºC underwent primary crystallisation, with the average size of crystals under 20 nm. This specimen shows the coercive field of 38 A/m, as compared to about 160 A/m reported for a similar alloy (Fe$\text{}_{44}$Co$\text{}_{44}$B$\text{}_{4}$Zr$\text{}_{7}$Cu$\text{}_{1}$) with a similar structure, annealed at 600ºC.

The aim of this study was to find out if polylactide (PLA) modified with magnetite might affect the amount of DNA double strand breaks induced with X-rays. The human osteosarcoma cells (MG63) were seeded on the polystyrene cell culture dishes (PS), PLA and PLA modified with magnetite substrates. The double strand breaks were analyzed after X-ray irradiation (dose rate 2 Gy/min), in the first day of culturing. The number of double strand breaks increased in the PLA modified with magnetite, for example after 1 Gy of X-rays irradiation, double strand breaks/cell equaled: 24.5 vs. 17.5 and 17.3, for PLA modified with magnetite vs. PLA and PS, p < 0.0003. We conclude that PLA modified with magnetite changed the number of double strand breaks induced with X-rays. However, more research is needed to confirm that such composite might be considered as radiosensitizer in radiotherapy.

The validity of the Steinmetz law $(P=K B^{n})$ has been analyzed using the tanh model, by splitting the minor loops in three or two components, corresponding to different magnetization processes at different excitation levels. It is shown that the original Steinmetz law with the exponent n=1.6 is valid only at and above the coercive field, for intermediate and high induction values, where all the three magnetization processes are present. At small magnetization levels the exponent is about 3, much higher than the original proposed value.

The domain wall movement and magnetization rotations processes are separated experimentally in quasi-static magnetization process of a Finemet type ultrasoft magnetic material. The reversible domain rotations contribution is obtained from the integration of the reversible permeability, $μ_{DR}$, as a function of biasing DC field, measured with very small alternative field amplitude, less than 0.05 $H_c$. The domain wall movement component is obtained by the integration of the permeability obtained by extraction of $μ_{DR}$ from the differential permeability derived from one branch of the quasi-static major loop.

High-damping alloys with the magnetomechanical damping mechanism, based on the Fe-Cr system, have been studied. It has been shown that the direct investigation of the magnetic domain structure in the bulk materials using the neutron refraction method allows one to obtain important quantitative information concerning the formation of the high-damping state. The dependence of the damping capacity on the average magnetic domain size was found to possess a sharp maximum, thus revealing a range of the optimal domain sizes. The results obtained are important for the development of the technology of high-damping materials.

The structural mechanism of the high-damping state formation in the Fe-Mn-Si alloys has been investigated using transition electron microscopy and logarithmic decrement measurements. The high level of the elastic energy dissipation was found to be connected with a reversible movement of the Shockley dislocations under the sign changing stress action. The Shockley dislocations density and mobility are controlled by the alloys compositions and prior deformation value. The increase in the dislocations density with the help of the special cycling treatments can improve the alloys damping capacity.

Interparticle interactions in assemblies of nanoparticles represent an important effect that modifies their magnetic behavior. The characteristics of the hysteresis loop and the temperature dependent magnetization (field cooled (FC)/zero-field cooled (ZFC)) are studied numerically in magnetic nanoparticle assemblies using Monte Carlo simulations and the standard Metropolis algorithm. We study composite spin nanostructures with ferromagnetic (FM) core/antiferromagnetic (AFM) shell morphology and simple ferromagnetic nanostructures. Both three-dimensional granular solids and two-dimensional ordered nanoparticle arrays are analyzed and compared, with emphasis on the interplay between single-particle characteristics and magnetostatic interparticle interactions. We find that the antiferromagnetic interface provides a strong exchange coupling with the ferromagnetic core and, through it, an effective long range interparticle correlation, modified from that of simple FM nanostructures. The results of our simulations are compared with experimental findings.

Opis:
This paper is devoted to studies of the structural and magnetic properties of Co_2FeSi Heusler alloy produced by arc melting resulting in samples with large grains compared to finer-grained ribbon type samples prepared by planar flow casting. The scanning electron microscopy completed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and magnetic methods sensitive to both bulk and surface were applied. The chemical composition inside the grains was found to be in agreement with the nominal one while at the grain boundaries enrichment on Co and Si at expense of Fe was observed. The magnetic parameters derived from the bulk hysteresis curves resulted in nearly the same values of coercivity, about 1 kA/m, for both technological procedures while magnetization was of about 15 A m²/kg higher at ribbons compared with sample prepared by arc melting, 145 A m²/kg. The surface magnetic characteristics were visibly influenced by a surface magnetic anisotropy. The smooth polished surface of the sample prepared by arc melting has allowed visualizing the magnetic domain structure inside the grains and at grain boundaries by the magneto-optical Kerr microscopy and magnetic force microscopy.

Magnetic and structural studies were performed on $Fe_{50}Co_{50}$ material. The samples (disk-shaped, diameter: 10 mm, thickness: 2.5 mm) were fabricated by compaction of powder under pressure of 800 MPa for 5 min at temperatures 300-600°C. The powder was obtained by milling of $Fe_{50}Co_{50}$ alloy swarfs in high-energy planetary mill. The milling time varied from 1 h to 40 h. In the course of milling process the mean size of alloy pieces was decreasing from about 0.5 mm to 0.05 mm (scanning electron microscopy), which provided more compact structure after compression. The annealing process during compaction strongly reduces a coercive field of the samples. Parameters of conversion electron Mössbauer spectra are almost the same for all samples, which points to not significant changes of atomic and magnetic order after milling and compacting.

Opis:
The influence of mechanical stress on low frequency AC magnetic permeability was studied. The cold-drawn bars with C45 steel were subjected to investigation. The tensile stress (within elastic regime) was applied by means of material testing machine. Simple measuring system was assembled, which consisted of: function generator with magnetizing coil, detection coil and precise AC voltmeter. The registered changes of induced voltage were proportional to the change of magnetic permeability of the stretched rods. The obtained results were almost frequency-independent due to low frequency limit (250-500 Hz, weak eddy currents, no spin-origin energy dissipation). A significant magneto-mechanical hysteresis was observed slightly evolving from cycle to cycle with tendency of stabilization. The extension of basic Stoner-Wohlfarth model of magnetic permeability allowed to fit the data reproducing hysteretic behavior and considering the relaxation of the internal stress. The proposed, low-cost method is suitable in the industrial applications for stress control in large-sized steel elements.

The detailed analysis of atomic and magnetic structure has been performed by Mössbauer spectroscopy for polycrystalline $Fe_{80}Ga_{20}$ films of different thickness ranging from 20 nm to 200 nm. The films were deposited on Si(100) substrate using dual sputtering and evaporation method. Obtained CEMS spectra have been fitted with several Gaussian distributions of hyperfine magnetic field. The results point to the domination of BCC disordered A2 phase and the absence of $DO_{3}$ and $L1_{2}$ phases in the films. Both hyperfine parameters and lattice constant reveal anomaly for 40 nm thick sample - presumably due to the change of the internal stress. Spin texture evolves from in-plane to out-of-the-plane configuration with increasing thickness.

In this work a quantitative analysis of thermal compensation has been performed for a magnetic circuit producing magnetic field in the air gap. The considered system consists of Sm₃Co₁₇ type permanent magnet (as a source of magnetic field), nanocrystalline FINEMET alloy (as ultra-soft magnetic medium) and Fe-Ni low Curie temperature compensative material (as a magnetic shunt). Distribution of magnetic field induction in the circuit has been calculated numerically within standard one-dimensional approximation, considering nonlinearities of compensative material as well as demagnetization susceptibility of permanent magnet. It has been theoretically predicted, that an appropriate choice of the compensative element thickness improves significantly thermal stability of magnetic field in the air gap.
