Opis:
The anomalous low resistivity metallic material at room temperature has been discovered. Known high resistive material called manganin in form of 10 μm thick foil was one side implanted with high dose of niobium ions of 2.5 × $10^{17}$ Nb ions/$cm^2$ and then with 2.5 × $10^{13}$ Kr ions/$cm^2$. Before and after implantation procedure investigated manganin foils were temperature treated in 130°C during 100 h. Basic resistance measurements were performed just after implantation observing large decrease of its resistivity. In repeated measurements after long time later (about twelve months), at temperature of 22°C, practically no resistivity was measured. Four-terminal method for resistance measurements was used.

Opis:
In order to investigate the influence of the 4f electrons on the scattering processes we measured resistivity of the NdPb$\text{}_{3}$ in the temperature range 7-300 K. As a result, we could compare the experimentally determined magnetic contribution to the resistivity with the theoretically calculated ones for the exchange and quadrupolar scattering. The results may confirm that the direct Coulomb interactions between 4f and conduction electrons predominate.

In the presence of hybridization of the f states with the conduction electrons Ce-based compounds can show large peaks in the temperature dependence of the Seebeck coefficient, which makes them interesting materials for applications. The Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity of the bulk, arc-melted, single phase samples of Ce(Ni_{1-x}Cu_{x})₂Si₂ and CeNi₂(Si_{1-y}Ge_{y})₂ alloys were measured over the temperature range of 2 K to 300 K. All the samples exhibited a positive Seebeck coefficient, which reaches up to ım50μV/K at 150 K and it can be shifted up to 300 K by appropriate doping. The thermoelectric power factor, PF = S²/ρ, reached a maximum of 1.4×10¯³ Wm¯¹K¯² at 290 K and 1.1×10¯³ Wm¯¹K¯² at 110 K for x=0.25 and y=0.75, respectively. For selected representatives of the studied series thermoelectric properties have been measured up to 1000 K.

Opis:
CdS thin films were grown onto glass substrates at the substrate temperature of 573 ± 5 K by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique. The electrical and optical properties of the films were characterized before and after thermal annealing by using electrical resistivity measurements and UV/VIS spectrophotometer, respectively. Thermal annealing of CdS films was carried out in air ambient at various annealing temperatures from 473 to 673 K. The variation in electrical conductivity and optical parameters such as transmittance, absorbance and energy band gap of the films with thermal annealing temperature was investigated.

Opis:
In this study, ZnS and Mn-incorporated (at 2%, 4%, and 6%) ZnS films were deposited onto glass substrates by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique, and the effect of Mn incorporation on the electrical and optical properties of ZnS films was investigated. In order to determine the electrical characterization, the resistivity measurements of the films were performed by four-probe technique. The optical studies such as transmittance, reflectance and band gap energies of the films were carried out by the UV-Vis transmission.

Opis:
High precision measurements of magnetoresistance Δρ/ρ = f(T,H) and magnetization M(T,H) were carried out on single crystals of rare-earth dodecaboride $ErB_{12}$ at temperatures in the interval 1.8-30 K in magnetic fields up to 70 kOe. The high accuracy of the experiments allowed us to perform numerical differentiation and analyze quantitatively the behavior of the derivative d(Δρ/ρ)/dH = f(T,H) and of the magnetic susceptibility χ(T,H) = dM/dH in paramagnetic and magnetically ordered (antiferromagnetic, $T_N$ ≈ 6.7 K and $T_M$ ≈ 5.85 K) phases of $ErB_{12}$. It was shown that negative magnetoresistance anomalies observed in present study in paramagnetic state of $ErB_{12}$ may be consistently interpreted in the framework of a simple relation between resistivity and magnetization -Δρ/ρ ~ $M^2$.

Opis:
Results of thermal conductivity measurements on single crystalline $PrB_6$ sample in the temperature range of 2-30 K and in magnetic field up to 14 T are presented. The obtained results are discussed in order to estimate the electron, phonon, and magnetic contributions to thermal conductivity. Taking into account the results of electrical resistivity of this compound the temperature dependence of the reduced Lorentz function is determined.

We studied the electronic, magnetic and transport properties of the hexagonal YCo$\text{}_{3}$B$\text{}_{2}$ compound. The electronic structure was studied by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and ab initio self-consistent tight binding linear muffin tin orbital method. We found a good agreement between the experimental X-ray photoemission spectroscopy valence band spectra and theoretical calculations. Theoretical calculations showed that the YCo$\text{}_{3}$B$\text{}_{2}$ is a paramagnet in agreement with experimental results. Electrical resistivity at low temperatures shows a T$\text{}^{2}$ dependence, implying that the scattering by the spin fluctuactions is dominant in this temperature range.

We study the electronic structure of the hexagonal DyCo$\text{}_{5}$ and DyCo$\text{}_{3}$B$\text{}_{2}$ compounds. The magnetic moments and the band structures were calculated by ab initio self-consistent tight binding linear muffin-tin orbital method within the atomic sphere approximation. These compounds crystallize in a hexagonal structure having the P6/mmm space group. The substitution of cobalt by boron atoms changes the local environment of remaining Co atoms and leads to the decrease in the local magnetic moments as well as in the Curie temperature.

Ternary compounds SmNi$\text{}_{2}$Sn$\text{}_{2}$ and SmCu$\text{}_{2}$Sn$\text{}_{2}$ were investigated with the X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and electric resistivity methods, as well as using the $\text{}^{119}$Sn Mossbauer effect under the applied magnetic field. Magnetic susceptibilities of these compounds show the Curie-Weiss behaviour in the temperature range from 15 K to 280 K with the enhanced values of the temperature independent term χ$\text{}_{0}$. Both resistivity and magnetic measurements indicate the occurrence of the magnetic ordering in SmCu$\text{}_{2}$Sn$\text{}_{2}$ below T$\text{}_{N}$ = 8 K. The Mossbauer investigations carried out at 4.2 K under an applied magnetic field of up 6 T indicate a more complex magnetic structure and a considerable anisotropy. SmNi$\text{}_{2}$Sn$\text{}_{2}$ remains paramagnetic down to 5 K.

Results of electrical resistivity and $\text{}^{119}$Sn Mössbauer effect measurements for two samples of CeAg$\text{}_{2}$Sn$\text{}_{2}$ compound are presented. A sharp drop in resistance of an annealed sample at 3.5 K might have suggested a superconducting transition while for the as-melted specimen only a modest change in ρ vs. T slope is observed at this temperature. Resonance γ-absorption reveals differences and similarities on a microscopic scale between the two samples. The occurrence of certain regions of a long-range magnetic ordering within the CeAg$\text{}_{2}$Sn$\text{}_{2}$ phase is unambiguously demonstrated by the presence of hyperfine splitting. Temperature variation of the hyperfine field follows a molecular field spin-½ function.

Opis:
The heavy fermion compound Ce₃Co₄Sn₁₃ was studied in terms of its thermoelectric properties. To enhance its figure of merit we milled the solid sample and then pressed to obtain a consistent granulated material. The main properties, such as the Seebeck coefficient, thermal conductivity and electronic resistivity were measured at low (< 300 K) temperatures for both, the solid and the granulated sample. Thermal conductivity was diminished and the Seebeck coefficient was slightly enhanced, while the resistivity of produced material was increased. We explain it by strong electron scattering on defects and grain boundaries present in the sample. The resulting figure of merit ZT was found to be enhanced almost across the whole measured T region.

We present the results of measurements of electrical resistivity (ρ(T)) and magnetoresistance (Δϱ/ϱ$\text{}_{0}$(T)) on the solid solutions U$\text{}_{1-x}$Th$\text{}_{x}$Pt (x=0-0.8). The Curie temperature (T$\text{}_{c}$=21 K) found for the parent compound UPt, is steadily reduced upon the Th-substitution. The ρ(T) and Δϱ/ϱ$\text{}_{0}$(T) functions provide evidence of electron scattering due to spin fluctuations. The most interesting feature of Δϱ/ϱ$\text{}_{0}$ is its high value of about -22% found for UPt and U$\text{}_{0.9}$Th$\text{}_{0.1}$Pt at their T$\text{}_{c}$ and B=8 T. For samples with x ≥ 0.2, the value of Δϱ/ϱ$\text{}_{0}$ at 4 K and 8 T increases with x and becomes positive for Th-composition x >= 0.6.

The heat diffusivity D, the electrical resistivity ρ and the thermoelectric power S of tetragonal Mn$\text{}_{2-x}$Cr$\text{}_{x}$Sb single crystals with 0.02 < x < 0.12 have been measured in the temperature range of 90 K < T < 350 K and along different crystal axes. The heat conductivity κ and σ = 1/ρ are anisotropic along the crystal axes a, c with a ratio of 2:1. κ(T) , ρ(T) and S(T) show anomalies at the spin reorientation temperature T$\text{}_{Rm}$ of the matrix (M) Mn$\text{}_{2-x}$Cr$\text{}_{x}$Sb, but also at that of the coherent ferromagnetic precipitate (P) Mn$\text{}_{1.037}$Cr$\text{}_{0.11}$Sb, T$\text{}_{R_{p}}$ which is assigned to variations in the spin dependent scattering at the M /P interfaces via changes in the relative orientation of the magnetization vectors of matrix and precipitate (spin valve effect).

Defects in $Si_{1-x}Ge_{x}$ single crystals (2-8.5 at.% Ge) grown by the Czochralski method are investigated by synchrotron white beam topography and phase contrast imaging techniques. As the Ge concentration increases, dislocation structure evolves from individual dislocations to slip bands and sub-grain boundaries. We discuss the effect of dislocations on the electrical characteristics such as resistivity $\rho_{v}$, the Hall hole mobility $\mu_{p}$ and carrier lifetime τ_{e}. Diodes are fabricated by bonding $p-Si_{1-x}Ge_{x}$ to n-Si wafers to investigate I-V characteristics and reverse recovery process. I-V characteristics are not deteriorated in spite of a five times decrease in $\tau_{e}$ with Ge concentration. A small reverse recovery time (determined by the accumulated charge) can be achieved for an optimised preset Ge concentration.
