Opis:
In this work gasochromic effect in $TiO_{2}$ thin films doped with palladium and tantalum (without catalyst film) have been described. The results have shown that in nanocrystalline $TiO_{2}$:(Ta, Pd), with anatase structure, the film colorization effect in alcohol presence was observed. Both colorization and also bleaching effect were stable and thermally activated.

Opis:
A β-phase of sodium-vanadium oxide bronze thin film has been synthesized by using sol-gel technology from $V_2O_5$ and $Na_2SO_4$. The powders of these materials in suitable proportion were dissolved in hydrogen peroxide and heated up to 350 K for the dissociation of peroxide complexes. The obtained gel was deposited onto a metallic substrate and dried in air at room temperature. The produced xerogel was heated up to 580 K in air atmosphere for the removal of water from xerogel. Starting materials, xerogel, as well as a final product were investigated by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy method. X-ray photoelectron spectra testify that the chemical bonds of vanadium, oxygen and sodium in the bronze differ from the similar bonds in the starting materials. The sulphur presence was detected in the xerogel but not in the final bronze composition.

The paper presents the study of Ni-based coatings deposited by plasma detonation onto a steel substrate after direct current low-energy electron beam irradiation and proposes explicit parameters of the electron beam for modification of coatings by irradiation. The choice of irradiation modes is based on the calculation of the temperature profile in the Ni-Fe two-layer absorbents using numerical simulation methods. It was found that the exposure of coatings to irradiation according to the recommended modes leads to the evolution of the structural-phase state of coatings and substantial improvement of performance properties of modified surfaces. The wear resistance of modified surfaces increases 3 times, the microhardness increases on the average 25%.

The paper deals with the results of the comparative study into the structure and phase composition, as well as some properties (microhardness, corrosion resistance) of Ni-based powder coatings before and after their modification by DC electron beam or DC pulse plasma jet, according to the modes recommended on the basis of model calculations of the temperature profiles at irradiation. The transmission electron microscopy and X-ray analysis have revealed that irradiation leads to an increase in the volume fraction of reinforcing nanosized intermetallic components in the coatings. There were established certain similarities and differences in the structure and properties of the coatings modified by different types of irradiation. The microhardness of the irradiated coatings has increased in both cases along with the growth of the volume fraction of the CrNi₃ particle phase. However, it was found that the diffusion zone in the coatings modified by plasma jet is higher than that of the coatings modified by electron irradiation. The coating surface melted by the electron beam has a marked reduction of its roughness and better homogenization of the microstructure therefore demonstrating better adhesion and corrosion resistance.

Series of $Fe_3O_4$/MgO(001) and $Fe_3O_4$/Fe/MgO(001) films (single- and bi-layer films, respectively) with a total layer thickness in the range of 20 ÷ 150 nm were investigated by the Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (2 MeV $He^{+}$ ion beam), by the Rutherford backscattering spectrometry channeling experiments (1.5 MeV $He^{+}$ ion beam). Depending on the layer thickness of each layer and the film geometry, a single Fe peak and/or a double-anomaly feature was revealed in the Rutherford backscattering spectra. For all films no magnesium presence in the surface layer was observed. For both single- and bi-layer films with a total layer thickness less than 60 nm only one minimum was observed in the channeling curves, while a double minimum was revealed for the bi-layer films with a larger thickness. X-ray reflectometry measurements have revealed that the film density is the same as that of the bulk one.

In this study, it is aimed to develop $LiMn_2O_4$/MWCNT nanocomposite cathode materials by using different calcination temperatures (300, 500, 700°C). The aim of using MWCNTs in the active material is to overcome poor conductivity and to increase stability of the electrodes during charging and discharging. The nanocomposites were produced by sol-gel method, which allows producing very fine particle size of $LiMn_2O_4$. $LiMn_2O_4$ and $LiMn_2O_4$/MWCNT were uniformly coated on an Al-foil to obtain 500 μm thicknesses with a specific amount of binder and conducting agent. The surfaces of cathodes were coated with ZnO by using magnetron sputtering PVD with a thickness of 10 nm. Coin-type (CR2016) test cells were assembled, directly using the $LiMn_2O_4$/MWCNTs and surface coated $LiMn_2O_4$/MWCNTs as anode and a lithium metal foil as the counter electrode.

Ni-Cr-Mo alloys, e.g. Inconel 625 and 686, exhibit high-temperature corrosion, oxidation and wear resistance. For this reason, these alloys are typically used as a coating material in different environments as effective solid-state diffusion barriers between the corrosive atmosphere and the base metal. To perform: the Ni-base weld overlays, without introducing too much Fe, a new welding technique called cold metal transfer was used. High-temperature corrosion of boiler parts during incineration of waste was investigated. Boiler tubes were coated with Inconel 625 and Inconel 686 nickel alloys and, after subjecting them to waste incineration ashes, they were examined by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer to reveal different corrosion mechanisms and their causes. Results indicate a strong dependence of the boiler steel corrosion on anions in the incineration waste ash. X-ray diffraction characteristics of the scale showed that surface corrosion processes induce the formation of CrO₂, NiO. The presence of iron in the clad weld surface is conductive to the formation of the Fe₂O₃ oxide.

CdS quantum dots were coated on $TiO_2$ layer by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction method. An efficient photovoltaic energy conversion and significant quantum-size effect were observed. The magnitude of the short-circuit photocurrent density $J_{SC}$ was found to be approximately 6.01 $mA//cm^2$ for graphene oxide-incorporated $CdS//TiO_2$ solar cell, while the $J_{SC}$ of only CdS-sensitized solar cells was lower than 4.40 $mA//cm^2$. The efficiency of the $CdS//TiO_2$ solar cell with a graphene oxide layer containing CdS QDs was 60% higher than that of the $CdS//TiO_2$ solar cell. The cell efficiency was remarkably improved with the graphene oxide-incorporation. The carrier recombination of the QDs sensitized solar cells based on CdS-coated $TiO_2$ was significantly suppressed due to photogenerated charge carrier transports resulting from the presence of graphene oxide.

It is shown that the water vapor plasma processing offers modified Ti oxidation thermodynamics and kinetics over conventional, thermal oxidation. The 0.3-0.6 μm thick Ti films were sputter-deposited on silicon substrates and subsequently treated with low-pressure water vapor plasma at room temperature under continuous injection of water cloud vapor into the vacuum chamber from the heated water container. The changes of microstructure, phase composition, elemental composition and surface morphology upon the RF-power dissipated in plasma and treatment duration were investigated. We conclude that oxygen diffusion is enhanced in the presence of water vapor plasma, and deduce that fast $H^+$ transients because of their high mobility may be responsible for oxygen diffusion enhancement. This phenomenon can be explained as the result of two coexisting and competing reactions of oxidation and reduction on the surface. The different plasma reduction/oxidation state on the surface can be maintained by coordinated adjustment of an intensity of plasma radiation. Analysis of the experimental results is used to obtain important insights into the behavior of water molecules adsorbed on the oxidized titanium surfaces exposed to water vapor plasma at room temperature.
