Opis:
Single crystals of $GdCa_4O(BO_3)_3$ were examined to determine their thermal properties. Samples were grown by the Czochralski pulling technique. There were three types of samples: a pure crystal, the crystal doped with neodymium (4 at.% of Nd), and the third one doped with ytterbium (7 at.% of Yb). All samples were rectangular prisms with edges parallel to the axes of the optical indicatrix X, Y, Z (principal axes). The thermal diffusivity was determined by means of the thermal wave method with the optical detection of the temperature disturbance based on a mirage effect. Experimental results showed anisotropy of the thermal diffusivity. The thermal diffusivity along Y direction has the highest value while values obtained in X and Z axes are much lower. Dopants cause decrease in the thermal diffusivity for all investigated directions.

Opis:
We studied the effect of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction on the multilayer transition and magnetic properties of spins-3/2 and 1/2 Blume-Capel model in the bilayer separated by a non-magnetic spacer of thickness (d), by using mean-field theory and Monte Carlo simulation. It is found that the multilayer transition temperature depends strongly on the thickness of the non-magnetic layer and the crystal field. Furthermore, the critical thickness of the non-magnetic spacer above which the two magnetic multilayers transit separately depends on the Fermi level and the absolute temperature.

Opis:
The dispersion law, density states of phonons, thermodynamics properties and thermal conductivity was analyzed in this paper. It has been shown that at low temperatures, thermal conductivity of thin film is considerably lower that of bulk-structure. It turned out that phonons in thin film require activation energy for exciting. This leads to extremely low specific heat and specific conductivity at low temperatures. Consequences of quoted facts were discussed in detail and their influence on kinetic and thermodynamic properties of thin films is estimated.

Opis:
It is known that processing of silicon implanted with vanadium, Si:V, at high temperature-pressure, HT-HP, can lead to magnetic ordering within the V-enriched area. New data concerning structure of Si:V (prepared using $V^{+}$ doses, D = (1-5) × $10^{15} cm^{-2}$, and energy, E = 200 keV), as implanted and processed for up to 10 h at HT ≤ 1400 K under enhanced hydrostatic pressure, HP ≤ 1.1 GPa, are presented. In effect of implantation, amorphous (a-Si) area is produced near range of implanted species. Transmission electron microscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry, X-ray, and synchrotron methods were used for sample characterisation. At HT-HP the a-Si layer is subjected to solid phase epitaxial re-growth. Depending on HP, distinct solid phase epitaxial re-growth and formation of $VSi_2$ are observed at HT ≥ 720 K. HP applied at processing results in the improved solid phase epitaxial re-growth in Si:V. This can be related, among others, to the effect of HP on diffusivity of $V^{+}$ and of implantation-induced point defects. Our results can be useful for development of the new family of diluted magnetic semiconductors.

Opis:
Thermal properties of polypyrrole nanotubes synthesized by the chemical oxidation of pyrrole with iron(III) chloride in the presence of methyl orange as structure-guiding template, have been investigated. As-prepared polypyrrole salt and corresponding base were compressed into pellets. Thermogravimetric analysis has shown that the heating/cooling of both polymers is connected with water desorption/re-absorption. This process influences all temperature dependences of the thermophysical properties. The specific heat of both polypyrrole forms was the same at 35°C. The thermal diffusivity of polypyrrole base was lower than that of the salt. The dilatational characteristics are strongly influenced by water desorption/re-absorption. Water desorption is connected with the contraction of polypyrrole and its re-absorption with the expansion of polypyrrole. The electrical resistivity was measured, in analogy to thermal experiments, by a four-point van der Pauw method. The electrical resistivity was 0.016 and 10.2 Ωcm at room temperature, for both materials. The electrical resistivity was also influenced by water desorption/re-absorption as well as other thermophysical properties.
