Opis:
The paper presents the results of the share viscosity (η) investigations performed for binary mixtures composed of the liquids of extremely different viscosities: a high-viscous α-tocopherol acetate (η ≈ 10 Pa s) is mixed with 4-n-propylcyclohexyl-4'-n-pentylphenyl (η ≈ 10 mPa s) and mesitilene (η ≈ 1 mPa s), the two low-viscous solvents composed of the non-polar molecules of an essentially different shape. It was found that the viscosities of the mixtures, disregarding the molecular shape of the non-polar admixture, exhibit a strong nonlinear dependence on tocopherol mole fraction and, at a given temperature, the dependence can be described with an exponential function. For a constant tocopherol concentration in the mixtures, the viscosity temperature dependences are well described with the Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann relation. The results can be considered as a model of the viscosity behavior related to the laminar flow of miscible liquids of a different viscosity being in contact to each other.

Opis:
Ferrofluids based on insulating liquids are intensively studied as a potential substitute of liquid dielectric in high voltage technologies. In this work we focus on the experimental investigation of flow and thermal transport characteristics of a ferrofluid based on transformer oil (Mogul) and iron oxide nanoparticles. The magneto-rheological behavior of the ferrofluid was studied by a rotational rheometer in the shear rate range from 1 to 1000 s¯¹ and magnetic field up to 1 T. By means of a thermal constants analyzer and a transient plane source method we obtained the thermal conductivity, specific heat and thermal diffusivity values for the studied oil and the ferrofluid. It is shown that the Newtonian character of the ferrofluid changes to a non-Newtonian with application of the magnetic field. The notable magneto-viscous effect has been observed especially at low shear rates. We found that the doping of the transformer oil by 3 wt% of the nanoparticles results in a thermal conductivity enhancement by about 3.2%.

Opis:
The paper presents result of experimental measurements of viscoelastic properties of agarose gel after sonication and with silver nanoparticles doped. Researches were conducted using a HAAKE MARS 2 rheometer (Thermo Electron Corporation, Karlsruhe, Germany), with serrated plate-plate measuring geometry. Viscoelastic properties of samples were measured with oscillation tests at constant deformation rate 0.1%, and frequency 1 Hz in the temperature range from 278 to 348 K. It was presented that using the sonication before solidification of gel results in increases of the storage modulus and complex viscosity of the solidified gel. It was also presented that when silver nanoparticles are doped into agarose gel, storage modulus and complex viscosity start to decrease at lower temperature.

Peculiarities of phase composition and morphology in nanostructured (Fe$\text{}_{70}$Al$\text{}_{30}$)$\text{}_{1-x}$(Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{x}$ (x=64-80 wt.%) powder alloys prepared by self-propagated high temperature synthesis have been studied by $\text{}^{57}$Fe transmission Mössbauer spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. It has been established that phase composition of alloys has not been affected by Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ contribution. Contrary, atomic arrangement in B2 FeAl phase depends on the volume fraction of Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ resulting in the migration of Al atoms from B2 FeAl lattice.

Opis:
Magnetooptical Kerr effect measurements of room temperature hysteresis loops were taken using sandwich- and multilayer-type specimens and He-Ne laser light. For maximal external field of ~250 Gs the corresponding Kerr angle reached 0.04 deg. The samples were obtained in the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warszawa, using MBE method. The structure of samples may be described by a formula: substrate-buffer layer-(xCo/yCu)$\text{}_{n}$ -cover layer. Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ (two orientations) and MgO were used as substrates, the buffer layer was made of W, Cu or Fe, x=15, 20 or 25 Å, y=7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 20 Å, n=25 and 30. 50 Å of gold (Au) served as a cover layer. The genetic algorithm was subsequently used as a data processing tool, in order to reconstruct the Preisach map for each hysteresis loop. The diagrams clearly indicate changes of magnetic interactions caused by varying thicknesses of individual magnetic and non-magnetic layers.
