    Opis:
    In our work we study the doping behaviour of sulphur in Czochralski grown GaSb by means of the high resolution Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and the secondary ion mass spectroscopy. We have revealed that the sulphur impurity forms an effective mass like donor state bound to the L-minimum of the conduction band. From the far infrared spectrum of this donor we derive the effective band masses of the L band minimum. We also observe local vibrational modes related to the arsenic and phosphorus isoelectronic impurities. From the nearest neighbour isotope splittings of these modes we conclude that the arsenic impurity occupies a tetrahedral substitutional site and the phosphorus impurity - a low symmetry lattice site.

    We study infrared-active vibrations of interstitial oxygen in Czochralski-grown samples of Si$\text{}_{x}$Ge$\text{}_{1-x}$ alloys with the silicon content from 0 to 1 between room and liquid nitrogen temperature. The measurements were performed on a large series of samples including single crystals of Si and Si-rich alloys, and polycrystalline samples of alloys with a higher Ge content. We focus on quantitative data on the compositional and temperature evolution of the strongest absorption band above 1100 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, related to the asymmetric stretching of the Si$\text{}_{2}$O pseudomolecule. We have also observed a pronounced Fano-like resonance centered at 520 cm$\text{}^{-1}$.

    We present far-infrared reflection spectra of Pb$\text{}_{0.95}$Mn$\text{}_{0.05}$Te single crystal doped with gallium between 10 and 300 K. The analysis of the far-infrared reflection spectra was made by a fitting procedure based on the model of coupled oscillators. Together with the strong plasmon-phonon coupling we obtain three local modes of gallium at about 122 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, 166 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, and 192 cm$\text{}^{-1}$. The position of these modes depends on impurity center charge, and their intensity depends on temperature.

    Localised vibrational mode infrared absorption (10 K) and Hall measurements were made on a series of Si doped Al$\text{}_{x}$Ga$\text{}_{1-x}$As samples with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.25 grown by liquid phase epitaxy. Localised vibrational modes were detected from Si$\text{}_{Ga}$ donors, Si$\text{}_{As}$ acceptors and Si$\text{}_{Ga}$-Si$\text{}_{As}$ pairs which increased in frequency as x increased. The assignments of new lines observed at 386, 388 and 391 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ are discussed in relation to possible perturbations of the lines from Si$\text{}_{Ga}$ or Si$\text{}_{As}$. The presence of DX centres was inferred from observed persistent photoconductivity and attempts were made to relate this result to the presence of the new IR lines.

    A silicon-related local vibrational mode absorption in AlGaAs is reported for the first time. It consists of six peaks grouped around 450 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ which form a distinct pattern. We believe that the new local vibrational mode absorption is a fingerprint of a single defect. Among the discussed microscopic structures the most plausible is a Si$\text{}_{Ga}$-Si$\text{}_{As}$ pair complex with Si$\text{}_{As}$ acceptor interacting with different Ga, Al nearest neighbour local environments.

    Optical phonons in mercury chalcogenides doped with selected transition metal ions are investigated by infrared reflectivity and Raman scattering measurements performed at helium temperatures. The results obtained for Hg$\text{}_{1-x}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$Se, Ηg$\text{}_{1-x}$Co$\text{}_{x}$Se, Ηg$\text{}_{1-x}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$S and Hg$\text{}_{1-x}$Co$\text{}_{x}$S mixed crystals demonstrate the significant influence of the 3d electron correlation effects and/or sp-d hybridization on the transition metal ion local mode frequency.

    Optical measurements of bulk GaSb:S reveal the structure of the lattice two phonon absorption and acceptor-valence band transitions. A sulphur related local vibrational modes and several bands related to the optical transitions from the ground state of the acceptor level are observed. A comparison of transport and optical measurements for GaSb:Te and AlGaSb:Te shows that in the alloy it is easier to obtain high concentrations of the electrically active Te impurity.

    It is demonstrated numerically that nonlinear localized excitations in the form of dissipative discrete breathers can be induced spontaneously through the mechanism of modulational instability in nonlinear magnetic metamaterials comprised of binary arrays of split-ring resonators. Specifically, a variety of high amplitude dissipative breathers can be produced by frequency chirping of the driving field, which concentrate a large portion of the total energy of the metamaterial within only a few lattice sites.

    We introduce an effective model for correlated $e_g$ electrons which reproduces qualitatively the evolution of magnetic order in monolayer manganites when correlated wave functions are used. Here we address recent optical conductivity measurements suggesting that the splitting between the occupied and empty $e_g$ states is very large in $LaSrMnO_4$, contrary to what is expected for the effective model. We argue that no contradiction was found but several simple-minded one-atom-based expectations concerning crystal-field splitting and optical conductivity are in error.

    The diagonal and non-diagonal parts for the Debye-Waller factor have been established using equation of motion technique of quantum dynamics and the Dyson equation approach. The double time temperature dependent phonon Green function has been taken to find the phonon linewidth and phonon shift. Renormalized mode frequency has been investigated in terms of electron-phonon coupling constant and temperature. The effect of electron-phonon interaction on the Debye-Waller factor has been studied in low temperature limit in low impurity concentration in semiconductor crystals.

    An analytical direct matching procedure within the Kronig-Penney model was applied to analyze the dispersion behavior of the localized surface states supported at the surface of a semi-infinite one-dimensional photonic crystals truncated with air or a cap layer. The photonic crystals contain alternating layers of positive and negative media. The present study demonstrates that by choosing some proper value for the photonic crystal parameters, zero and negative dispersion of surface modes emerge in a large range of parallel wave vector. New forward and backward surface waves are introduced. Due to the different nature of the band structure the surface modes are more localized compared to those appearing in the conventional photonic crystals.

    To describe quasi two-dimensional nickelates we introduce an effective Hamiltonian for $e_{g}$ electrons, which includes the kinetic energy, on-site Coulomb interactions, spin-spin and Jahn-Teller (static) terms. The experimental stripe phases are correctly reproduced by the model. The mechanisms responsible for stripe formation are different than those reported in cuprates and manganites.
