Opis:
The structure of a family of high entropy alloys based on the composition CoCrFeNi, to which Pd and Sn have been added, is presented. The results stem from combined investigations by atom probe tomography as well as by scanning and transmission electron microscopy on samples produced by arc melting. Although CoCrFeNi is of fcc structure, the sample is not homogeneous on atomic scale. The addition of Pd as a fifth element retains the fcc lattice with the indication of the coexistence of at least two additional phases. The addition of Sn changes the general structure considerably.

Processing through the use of high-pressure torsion is attracting much attention at the present time because of the potential for achieving exceptional grain refinement. In principle, it appears that the thin disks used for high-pressure torsion processing should exhibit significant heterogeneity in the as-processed condition. However, experiments show that the development of homogeneity or heterogeneity is dependent upon the crystalline structure of the material. For high-purity aluminum the as-processed microstructure is very homogeneous after five or more revolutions of torsional straining but for the magnesium AZ31 alloy there is a considerable degree of heterogeneity in the as-processed disks.

A P-type icosahedral quasicrystal with a six-dimensional lattice parameter $a_{6D}$ = 7.411 Å is formed as an equilibrium phase in Au-Al-Tm alloy, of which composition was analyzed to be $Au_{46}Al_{38}Tm_{16}$ by electron probe microanalysis. This quasicrystal is observed as a predominant phase in both as-cast and $Au_{49}Al_{34}Tm_{17}$ alloys annealed at 910°C, and as one of main phases in the alloy slowly cooled from 1020°C. A 1/1 approximant, $Au_{48}Al_{38}Tm_{14}$, is also formed near the composition of the quasicrystal. This is a body-centered cubic structure (space group: Im3̅) with a lattice parameter a = 14.458 Å that is an isostructure to the recently reported 1/1 Tsai-type approximant in Au-Al-Yb. This approximant is characterized by disorderly arranged four Au-Al atoms centered at the Tsai-type cluster, presence of atoms at 8c site, and chemical ordering of Au and Al at sites forming a partial triacontahedron.

A random model of microscopic structure of zinc-blende type A$\text{}_{1-x}$B$\text{}_{x}$C$\text{}_{1-y}$D$\text{}_{y}$ quaternary alloys, based entirely on the elastic bond-stretching and bond-bending forces of two-element components AC, AD, BC, and BD, was constructed. The model was applied to Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te$\text{}_{1-y}$Se$\text{}_{y}$ quaternary alloys and the calculated nearest-neighbor distances were compared with the experimental data. Additionally, a possibility of particle exchange (within each sublattice) was included into the model and a possibility of studying the preferential coordination was discussed.

In the paper the crystal structure of single crystal CMSX-4 blade casts, applied in high pressure turbine of aircraft engines was analyzed. The longitudinal section of blade, cast at withdrawal rate of 3 mm/min was used as a sample. During the conducted research, following X-ray diffraction methods were applied: EFG Ω-scan, Auleytner X-ray topography and analysis of diffraction reflex profile ("rocking curve"). The authors determined crystal orientation in entire blade casts on the basis of set criterion concerning values of angle α - deviation of [001] direction from the direction of cast withdrawal. Conclusions concerning the crystal structure quality of the blade were drawn based on results from three different research methods. Local changes in crystal orientation on the surface of blade cast, also areas with significant structure defect degree and the presence of internal stresses were characterized.

Co-Re-based alloys strengthened by carbides are promising candidates for new high-temperature alloys for gas turbine applications. The high temperature microstructure and its stability are of utmost importance, e.g. due to strengthening-phase selection. Neutron scattering, providing in situ information at high temperatures, was extensively used in the past for the Co-Re alloys research. The paper focuses on TaC strengthened alloy, particularly on the stability TaC precipitates which were previously shown not to dissolve up to at least 1300°C. Small-angle neutron scattering shows that its finer morphological variant - most suitable for high temperature strengthening - coarsened even at relatively low temperature of 1000°C. This coarsening is faster at higher temperatures and the mean size exceeded 1000 Å (i.e. the size - detection limit of the used facility) after 4 h hold at 1200°C.

Electron probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction studies have been performed on samples of ternary Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Te (0.05 ≤ x ≤ 0.09) and quaternary Cd$\text{}_{1-x-y}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Mn$\text{}_{y}$Te (0.025 ≤ x ≤ 0.4; 0.025 ≤ y ≤ 0.7) alloys. The investigated samples were cut from 24 different ingots grown by Bridgman method. Microprobe examinations have revealed significant differences between actual and nominal content of Mg along the longitudinal direction for both ternary and quaternary ingots. In contrast to Mg, for most Cd$\text{}_{1-x-y}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Mn$\text{}_{y}$Te samples the actual Mn content was within ±5% of nominal content. The lattice constants have been determined by X-ray powder diffraction method. Whereas Cd$\text{}_{1-x-y}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Mn$\text{}_{y}$Te samples exhibit only zinc blende crystal structure for the entire region of x and y investigated, the Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Te alloy has two different structures depending on Mg content; a zinc blende structure below x = 0.5 and a wurtzite structure above it. In both alloys the lattice constant decreases with increasing Mg content.

The aim of the present work was to observe changes in precipitations during annealing after cold-rolling. Series of the samples from cold-rolled AA6013 were prepared and compared to undeformed samples. The samples were annealed at the temperatures equal to 260, 490°C for undeformed state and at 280, 360, and 530°C for cold-rolled state. For investigation thin foils were prepared. Chemical composition and crystal structure of precipitates was analysed and described using transmission electron microscopy imaging, X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy and selected-area diffraction techniques. The researches indicated that low annealing temperatures caused dissolution of metastable β and Q phases. With increasing temperature there also occurred growth of Q phase. At highest annealing temperatures there were noticed precipitations of β phase again. Microstructural observation also revealed an impact of those particles on recrystallization processes.

CoCrMo alloys are one of the most commonly used materials for hip arthroplasty, knee and dental because of its mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and biocompatibility. In this study, CoCrMo alloys consisting of 1.68 to 4.33%Pd are produced by investment casting process under argon atmosphere. The microstructures and mechanical properties of CoCrMo alloy were studied using X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Knoop indentation hardness tests, focusing on the influences on the different palladium additives. The measured microhardness values of CoCrMo alloys having different palladium ratio are seen to be load-dependent. The observed load dependence was rationalized using the Hays-Kendall model and it was found that the resultant load-independent hardness decreases with increase of palladium ratios. As a results, microhardness decreases with increase of palladium amount.

Magnesium alloys are promising materials for production of biodegradable implants that may be used for fixation of fractured bones. Magnesium itself is an essential element that plays important roles in many biological processes. However, some common alloying elements of magnesium alloys such as aluminium or copper may cause health problems to the organism. A major problem is the high corrosion rate of magnesium and its alloys in physiological environment that contains chloride anions. Currently, the research focuses on alloys doped by rare-earth elements and zinc. All these elements affect corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys. This work was dealing with the study of Mg-Gd binary alloy and Mg-Gd-Y, Mg-Gd-Zn ternary alloys that were prepared from pure metals by melting in induction furnace. Various alloy compositions were tested. Corrosion behaviours in 9 M NaCl saline environments (exposure tests, potentiodynamic measurements) were studied on alloys in the cast state. Good corrosion resistance and uniform corrosion were observed in the case of binary Mg-Gd alloy. The influence of the addition of Y or Zn to the Mg-Gd system is discussed.
