Opis:
In this paper we deal with a relatively simpler method for the Fourier analysis of EXAFS data and illustrate this by a detailed analysis of the data for cobalt metal foil and cobalt complexes of isoxezol series. The Fourier analysis is useful in extracting distances and information about the phase shifts, the amplitudes, the Debye-Waller factors and the mean free paths. Here we have determined interatomic distances, mean square deviation and inelastic mean free path from the Fourier transform of EXAFS data for cobalt metal foil and cobalt complexes of isoxezol series by Math-CAD programming.

Opis:
The X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy is a unique powerful local and fast experimental method to study complex systems since it probes the nanoscale structure around selected atoms giving evidence for different local and instantaneous phases present in multiscale highly correlated granular systems. Transition metals and rare earth oxides like manganites, cuprates or pnictides superconductors show a rich variety of different competing structural, electronic and magnetic phases, which spatially coexist forming complex lattice textures. Many recent experimental data have pointed out the presence of arrested phase separation and the interplay of different phases occurring from nano- to micrometer-scale. This scenario opens the possibility to manipulate the mesoscopic phases to get new material functionalities. Therefore there is increasing need to develop methods to probe morphology and phase distribution at multiple length scales. Actually, combining X-ray imaging at high spatial resolution with μ-XANES spectroscopy both mesoscale, nanoscale and atomic structural changes can be identified. The μ-XANES spectroscopy technique is rapidly growing to investigate adaptive matter, high temperature superconductors, complex materials showing arrested phase separation at the mesoscale.

Opis:
The annealing of heavily doped GaAs:Te can significantly change the free electron concentration in a reversible manner. These changes of electrical properties are accompanied by the structural changes of GaAs:Te solid solution. We used X-ray Absorption Fine Structure at K-edge of tellurium to determine local changes around Te atoms for different states of the GaAs:Te crystals caused by the annealing corresponding to different electron concentrations. The best EXAFS fit for the samples with high electron concentration was obtained for the substitutional $Te_{As}$ model with elongated Te-Ga bonds (as compared to the As-Ga distance). For the samples in the low concentration state the best fit was for the pairs of Te atoms forming a rhombohedral symmetry double-DX centre, with the proportional admixture of the substitutional tellurium

Opis:
The first attempts to establish an implantation process leading to formation of ferromagnetic inclusions inside the GaSb matrix are presented. Gallium antimonide containing ferromagnetic MnSb precipitations is considered as a promising material for novel spintronic applications. It is possible to obtain such inclusions during the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth. However, for commercial application it would be also important to find an optimal way of producing this kind of inclusions by Mn ions implantation. In order to achieve this goal, several parameters of implantation and post annealing procedures were tested. The ion energy was kept at 10 keV or 150 keV and four different ion doses were applied, as well as various annealing conditions. The analysis of X-ray absorption spectra allowed to estimate the local atomic order around Mn atoms. Depending on the implantation energy and annealing processes, the manganese oxides or manganese atoms located in a heavily defected GaSb matrix were observed. The performed analysis helped in indicating the main obstacles in formation of MnSb inclusions inside the GaSb matrix by Mn ion implantation.

Opis:
The atomic environment of Bi atoms in the Co/Cu multilayered system was studied with X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. Experiments were carried out on a Co(1 nm)/Cu(2 nm) system with 5 and 10 repetitions of Co/Cu evaporated with very low deposition rate in ultrahigh vacuum. A very small amount of Bi (0.06 nm) was deposited on each Cu film in the system. The X-ray absorption fine structure spectra were measured at the $BiL_3$ edge in the X-ray absorption near-edge structure and extended X-ray absorption fine structure ranges at the Beamline X1 of HASYLAB/DESY synchrotron laboratory in Hamburg. The experimental data showed different local neighbourhood of Bi, depending on the number of Co/Cu bilayer repetitions. The results are discussed in terms of the location and segregation of the Bi atoms as well as its possible oxidation ways.

Opis:
Results of X-ray absorption fine structure measurements in manganites $(La_{1-x}Ho_{x})_{2//3}Ca_{1//3}MnO_{3}$ with 0.15 < x < 0.50 are presented. When $LaMnO_{3}$ is doped with a divalent element such as $Ca^{2+}$, substituting for $La^{3+}$, holes are induced in the filled Mn d orbitals. This leads to a strong ferromagnetic coupling between Mn sites. Ca ions in $La_{1-x}Ca_{x}MnO_{3}$ introduce a distortion of the crystal lattice and mixed valence Mn ions ($Mn^{3+}$ and $Mn^{4+}$). On the other hand, in manganites $(La_{1-x}Ho_{x})_{2//3}Ca_{1//3}MnO_{3}$ the substitution of La for Ho causes a lattice distortion and induces a disorder, which reduces a magnetic interaction. The ferromagnetic transition temperature and conductivity decrease very quickly with increasing x. The magnetic and transport properties of compounds depend on the local atomic structure around Mn ions. The information on the bond lengths and Debye-Waller factor are obtained from the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) data analysis. The charge state of Mn is determined from the position of the absorption edge in X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) data. XAFS results are in good agreement with magnetic characteristics of the studied materials.

Opis:
Transparent zinc oxide thin films doped with molybdenum have been prepared using a DC reactive magnetron sputtering on glass substrates from metallic ZnMo target. The three films, called A, B, and C, had 1.9 at.% Mo, 2.8 at.% Mo and 4.7 at.% Mo, respectively. The composition of the films was determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The analysis of Mo 3 $d_{5/2}$ core level spectra indicated that Mo exist in the films in $Mo^{6+}$ oxidation state irrespective of the Mo content in the film. The X-ray diffraction spectrum of film A showed a texture along the 002 orientation, while that of film B showed two peaks, one at $θ ≈ 34.5°$ and the other at $≈ 36.5°$ corresponding to 002 and 101 orientations, respectively. Film C showed two small peaks corresponding to 100 and 110 orientations. Optical measurements showed that all three films had a transmittance of about 80%. The energy band gap showed a linear increase as Mo concentration increases from 3.29 eV to 3.38 eV. The atomic force microscopy image of film A showed a homogeneous morphology of the surface of the film, while the atomic force microscopy images of films B and C showed an inhomogeneous one.

Opis:
New powerful sources and advanced analytical techniques have been considered in the last decade to face up the continuously increasing scientific demands, in particular, in materials science. As an example, nano- science and nanotechnology researches are characterized by ultimate spatial resolution, fast and ultrafast time-resolved analysis, but the complexity of the investigated phenomena requires new analytical capabilities and new experimental techniques were introduced in the research arena. The availability all over the world of brilliant synchrotron radiation sources offers incredible opportunities. Many challenging experiments were made possible by these sources and understanding of many complex dynamical problems was obtained. Nevertheless, a strong demand of new analytical approaches, mainly based on concurrent and possibly simultaneous time-resolved experimental techniques, is emerging. Pioneering time resolved experiments combining X-ray and infrared radiation with a conventional source were performed more than a decade ago. Nowadays, many beamlines at third generation synchrotron radiation facilities are equipped with conventional sources to allow complementary techniques and the strategy of a concurrent analysis is mandatory in the investigation of many phenomena in frontier multidisciplinary researches. Moreover, new opportunities will be available by means of concurrent spectroscopic experiments investigating complex phenomena on a short timescale, from the sub-second to the microsecond time domain. We will present and discuss researches where the combination of IR and X-ray simultaneous experiments may return unique information on complex dynamical processes and phase transitions occurring in materials science. Finally, we will briefly describe the conceptual layout of a synchrotron radiation beamline to perform concurrent IR and X-ray experiments.
