Opis:
The paper deals with difficulties that are encountered by investors and decision-making authorities in the course of investment processes involving construction of wind power plants. Moreover, attention is focused on absence of standardized procedures that could be used to determine environmental impact of wind turbines, mainly in the scope of acoustic effects appearing in conditions typical for operation of such devices (strong wind), high elevation of related noise sources, and the nature of the sound emission (tonality and amplitude modulation). Lack of such procedures is a source of serious ambiguities developing in assessment of all investment stages - planning and forecasting, construction, and operation. An additional problem arises in the case of power plants located in the vicinity of Natura 2000 area, where construction projects are often obstructed on the grounds of unclear criteria concerning, among other things, the effect of acoustic phenomena on birds, bats, and other animals. It follows from the research presented in this paper that the consistent system of procedures and criteria should be worked out on the grounds of long-term monitoring studies.

Opis:
The article presents the course and the results of an experiment, which aimed at the subjective assessment of the multi-channel impulse responses. The assessment was conducted considering the usefulness of the received responses for the conducting operation of the digital convolution. The resulting sound material is generated for the simulation of the characteristics of the room. In a medium-sized, rectangular reverberation room (74 $m^3$) a number of measurements of impulse responses were conducted with the use of multi-channel microphone techniques and with the use of SoundField type microphone. In identical conditions the raw sound material was recorded (in conditions of free field). Next, the convolution was performed between the raw material and the recorded impulse responses. The group of experts, whose members had at least 5 years of experience in the field of sound engineering, was subjected to the psychoacoustic tests aiming at comparison of the sound materials achieved in the convolution and in the recording.

Opis:
There are many objective parameters of the room impulse response which we can calculate that describe its acoustic field. The room impulse response can also be used to provide listening tests using the convolution technique. The aim of this work is to consider the influence of the impulse response measurement chain on objective numerical parameters and on the subjective perception of listeners. This article shows the impulse response measurement results obtained in the reverberation room using not only commonly known measurement chain elements but other elements, too. Standard components such as an omni-directional source and measurement microphone, as well as a consumer active loudspeaker and various audio recording stereo microphone pairs were used. The results are compared taking into consideration calculated numerical parameters and the application of calculated impulse responses to subjective listening tests. To determine the applicability of impulse responses to psychoacoustic listening tests, a preliminary listening test using headphones was carried out on a selected group of listeners. The audio test material consisted of samples of choral music and speech recorded in an anechoic room and convolved with previously analyzed impulse responses. This article shows how big the differences of subjective listener feelings are for different acoustic transducers.

Opis:
The phenomenon of masking in the environment of musical sounds has not yet been deeply investigated. An experiment was conducted to find out whether masking of a band of frequencies in a musical instrument sound by the remaining spectral content of that instrument could be explained by "energetic" masking, i.e. masking resulting from overlapping patterns of excitation on the basilar membrane. An isolated, about one octave wide, band of frequencies of the saxophone sound playing a couple of notes legato was masked alternatively by two maskers: CBN - the band of noise occupying the same frequency range plus the remaining spectral content of the saxophone sound, and BN - the same band of noise acting alone. For both maskers, the level of noise was increased gradually to detect the respective thresholds of masking. Masker CBN was more efficient in masking by about 15 dB, indicating that the harmonics below and above the analysed band contributed substantially more to masking than noise inside the band. As energetic masking of those harmonics was weak, non-energetic or "informational" masking prevailed.

Opis:
Direct and ambient sounds are usually reproduced through the same loudspeakers. In multichannel systems, with the use of anechoic recordings and auralization techniques it is possible to separate these sound components so that they are reproduced via different loudspeakers. Four basic options of management of direct and reflected sounds were investigated in a perceptual experiment. One sound source and the standard 5.0 surround sound system was used. It was found that listeners consistently preferred sound reproduction with direct sound radiated from only one loudspeaker.

Opis:
Signal processing methods make possible such a mixing of signals that their overlapping in the time-frequency plane is reduced. This can be achieved by reducing the number of overlapping signals by discarding contributions from weaker signals and leaving only contributions from stronger ones. When applied to acoustic signals, this is referred to by the authors as selective mixing of sounds. Previous research has shown, that this rule, when applied to signals of musical instruments can provide some perceptual advantages over simple adding up the sound sources. In this paper, an experiment was carried out to determine the threshold of the value of relative energy of sound sources to control the decision about discarding a contribution from a particular sound source.

Opis:
The paper presents a psychoacoustical evaluation of selected acoustic signals, which according to Polish and international recommendations can be applied at pedestrian crosswalks. The aim of the study was the optimal adjustment of parameters of the signals emitted at pedestrian crosswalks, and to meet the expectations of persons with vision impairments as well as nearby residents or workers working near the crossing. The psychoacoustical evaluation of acoustic signals consists of determination of the hearing threshold of signals in the quiet, detection of signals presented against a background of various types of traffic noises (estimated signal-to-noise ratio) and annoyance assessment of signals. Three types of intermittent sounds were analysed: signals with rectangular time pattern filled up with rectangular wave, signals with rectangular time pattern filled up with sinusoidal wave and signals with triangular time pattern filled up with sinusoidal wave. Four fundamental frequencies (550 Hz, 880 Hz, 1580 Hz and 2000 Hz) and two repetition rates (5 Hz and 9 Hz) were tested. The results of the study have shown that the most suitable signals which can be applied at pedestrian crosswalks are the intermittent sounds with rectangular time pattern filled up with rectangular wave of fundamental frequencies 880 Hz and 1580 Hz and repetition rate 5 Hz and the intermittent sounds with rectangular time pattern and triangular time pattern both filled up with sinusoidal wave of fundamental frequencies 1580 Hz and repetition rate 5 Hz.
