Opis:
Methylene blue sensitized poly(methyl methacrylate) prepared by the process of dye diffusion has been shown to be efficient medium for recording interference gratings. Phase and/or amplitude holograms can be written in the methylene blue sensitized films of poly(methyl methacrylate) using a conventional source of light a He-Ne laser operating at 632.8 nm wavelength. Kinetics of photobleaching process of methylene blue is measured. Diffraction efficiencies of up to 30% were found for thick holograms. Phase conjugation and multiple holograms writing has been tested in the studied system.

Opis:
The optical nonlinearity of safranin O dye in methanol solution at different concentrations and as a solid film with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) has been studied using cw Nd-YAG laser at 532 nm as the source of excitation. The optical responses were characterized by measuring the intensity dependent refractive index $(n_2)$ of the medium using the Z-scan technique. The open aperture Z-scan trace of the dye in solution and solid sample displayed saturable absorption. The closed aperture Z-scan trace of the dye exhibited a negative (defocusing) nonlinearity. The nonlinear refractive index was found to vary with concentration. Optical limiting characteristics of the dye at various concentrations in solution were studied. The nonlinearity appears to be of thermal origin.

The organic-inorganic hybrid salt: 1,1'-methylenedipyridinium pentacynidonitrosoferrate(II)pentahydrate is synthesized and characterized by multinuclear NMR, IR, and UV-vis spectroscopies and elemental analysis. The third order nonlinear optical properties of the new complex in an aqueous solution have been studied using Z-scan technique. Measurements were performed for input intensities (I₀) of 437 and 241 W/cm² for the two concentrations with a CW diode laser at 635 nm wavelength. The nonlinear optical absorption coefficient (β) and nonlinear refraction (n₂) are found at 1.28×10¯³ cm/W and 10.17×10¯⁹ cm²/W, respectively. The overall results suggested that better nonlinearity was observed at a higher concentration of sample. Our results suggest that this material is considered as a promising candidate for future optical device applications.

Opis:
The third-order nonlinear optical properties of $C_{60}$/poly(dimethylacetylendicarboxylate) have been studied using Z-scan technique. Experiments are performed using a CW diode laser at 635 nm wavelength and 26 mW power. The nonlinear absorption coefficient β, nonlinear refractive index n₂, Reχ³, and Imχ³ in $C_{60}$ doped poly(dimethylacetylendicarboxylate) are measured using Z-scan data. Our results show that the values of the nonlinear optical parameters (β, n₂, Reχ³, and Imχ³) of $C_{60}$ doped poly(dimethylacetylendicarboxylate) are smaller than the polymer itself.

Opis:
Optical limiting performances of acid blue 29 are investigated under irradiation by a 35 mW continuous wave He-Ne laser. The optical limiting behavior is investigated by using transmission measurement through samples with different concentrations. Our results show that the optical limiting efficiency is concentrations dependence. Induced self-diffraction patterns are observed at relatively high intensities starting from 15 mW.

In this report dispersion properties of different types of optical polymers are discussed on the base of measured refractive indices and the Cauchy-Schott approximation. A number of dispersion curves are presented in the visible and near infrared spectral regions between 400 and 1060 nm. A comparison with some optical glasses with similar refraction is performed. The nonlinear dependence of dn/dλ of polymer materials and test glasses on the wavelength is calculated and analyzed. Normalized dispersion curves at 550 nm and 880 nm are presented to illustrate better the dispersion of the polymers in the considered spectral regions, separately. Abbe numbers are calculated to exhibit the mean and partial dispersion.

Opis:
In the paper the luminescence optical fiber used as a temperature sensor is presented. The new construction of rhodamine B doped, polymethyl methacrylate optical fibre with silver coating is shown. The fabrication process and luminescent properties of rhodamine B in sensing fibre are investigated. The attenuation and spectral shift of luminescence peak vs. the fibre length were measured and used for optimization of sensor construction. The characteristics of sensor for temperature range from 293 up to 343 K are shown. The relative sensitivity equal to -5.4× $10^{-4}$ $K^{-1}$ was obtained. The article presents also the potential applications of presented sensor.

Results of measurements of the solvent-dependent shift of the low-energy absorption band solvatochromic effect in a benzimidazole-based betaine are reported in the paper. Measurements of absorption spectra in several solvents of different polarities were performed. The solvatochromic shift of the low-lying absorption band was found to exceed 3000 cm$\text{}^{-1}$; the results obtained were then employed to calculate the ground- and excited-state dipole moment of the molecule. The spectroscopic measurements were supplemented by measurements of the ground-state dipole moment. A remarkable change in the charge distribution was found to occur upon the electronic excitation: both the experimental results and the calculations indicate that the ground-state dipole moment is close to 13 D, whereas in the excited state it amounts to ca. 3 D. The second-order hyperpolarizability of the molecule was calculated from the measurements; its off-resonance value amounts to ca. 20 × 10$\text{}^{-40}$ m$\text{}^{4}$/V (4.8 × 10$\text{}^{-30}$ esu), depending on the solvent used.

Positron (e⁺) and positronium (Ps) annihilation processes in polymers are studied by positron age-momentum correlation spectroscopy, which can sensitively probe momentum distributions of e⁺, p-Ps, and o-Ps. For polyether sulfone and ethylene tetrafluoroethylene copolymer belonging to oxygen-containing polymers (O group) and fluorine-containing polymers (F group), respectively, significant effects of positron trapping by polar element are observed. The Doppler profile of o-Ps pick-off annihilation is strongly influenced by F atoms, giving rise to anomalous broadening. The results are discussed together with our previous data of the S-I₃ correlation in order to explore the feasibility of chemical analysis around the free volumes by age-momentum correlation spectroscopy.

Motivated by characterization of paramagnetic materials (Al, Mn and Ti) and diamagnetic materials (Cu, C and Zn) by opto-magnetic method that is based on light-matter interaction using digital imaging, we present results of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) detection in blood plasma. To investigate light-blood plasma interaction we use wavelength difference of diffuse white light and reflected polarized light in red and blue channels of digital images (opto-magnetic method). Digital images of samples are analyzed by spectral convolution algorithm for light-matter interaction analysis. Since opto-magnetic method can detect very small difference between normal and pathological tissue states it is advantageous in comparison with classical methods. Especially it is important for early detection of suspicious tissue states and detection of viral infection presence in plasma. We compared our results with results of standard biomedical test for EBV and CVM, as a reference, and found out for group of 40 samples significant correlation of 93. 6%.

Opis:
The electric and magnetic properties of Cu doped and pure/undoped hydrogels were investigated by impedance spectroscopy and electron spin resonance techniques, respectively. The capacitance and dissipation factor (tan δ) were measured in the frequency range of 100 Hz-10 MHz at room temperature. The Cole-Cole plots for the Cu doped dry and pure dry hydrogels have been used to describe the characteristic change of electrical properties in mentioned temperature interval. The comparison between Cu ions doped and pure/undoped samples is done using the impedance spectroscopy and the electron spin resonance techniques. Electron spin resonance signal for pure, Cu doped wet and Cu doped dry samples are not any power absorption signal, near the symmetric with respect to the resonance field values according to the dry sample and asymmetric for resonance field/base line, respectively.
