Opis:
The nonreciprocal phase shift of TM waves guided by the linear thin film sandwiched between magnetooptic semi-infinite substrate and nonlinear Kerr-type semi-infinite cladding has been investigated theoretically and numerically. With the help of the conservation energy law for TM modes in nonlinear waveguide the dispersion relation without a knowledge of the nonlinear field profile has been derived. The dependence of the nonreciprocal behaviour of the guided waves in terms of the local intensity at the film-nonlinear cladding boundary is discussed. Introducing a nonlinear material into magnetooptic waveguide structure leads to interesting applications for a new class of integrated devices which combine magnetooptic and nonlinear effects.

The analysis of optical orientational nonlinearity in nematic liquid crystalline planar waveguides is presented. The analyzed nonlinearity leads to unique properties that are not observed in other types of nonlinear waveguides. Theoretical results are confirmed by experimental data obtained in liquid crystalline directional couplers and in the self-focusing effect observed in the planar liquid crystalline waveguides.

Optical reorientational nonlinearity in twisted nematic liquid crystalline planar waveguide is analyzed theoretically. It is shown that optical nonlinearity for guided modes in analyzed waveguides can be approximated by saturation nonlinearity. Predicted nonlinearity is large enough to observe effects like spatial solitons formation with milliwatts of light power.

Theoretical analysis of light beam propagation in twisted nematic liquid crystalline waveguides is presented. Due to the optical reorientation nonlinearity, the light beam changes the direction of propagation and optical spatial soliton is formed. Modeling of such behavior is presented by using (2+1)-dimensional vector beam propagation method as well as simplified (1+1)-dimensional method. Although both approaches give similar results, the differences are discussed in detail.

In this paper, the propagation and behavior of spatial solitons of inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation in thermal medium will be investigated analytically. The theoretical model is established by considering the change of refractive index of medium due to heat deposition of entrance beam. The soliton like solution in such thermal medium was derived. The effect of input pump power and beam radius on the behavior of solitons will be studied finally.

Opis:
Propagation of the TE electromagnetic waves in self-focusing medium is governed by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. In this paper the stationary solutions of this equation have been systematically presented. The phase-plane method, qualitative analysis, and mechanical interpretation of the differential equations are widely used. It is well known that TE waves can be guided by a single interface between two semi-infinite media, providing that one of the media has a self-focusing (Kerr-type) nonlinearity. This special solution is called a spatial soliton. In this paper our interests are not restricted to the soliton solutions. In the context of the nonlinear substrate and cladding we have found solutions which could be useful to describe also the incident light in a nonlinear medium. This result is the main point of the paper. Some of the presented stationary solutions were already used in a similar optical context in the literature but we show a little wider class of solutions. In the last section we review and illustrate some results concerning the spatial soliton solution.

This paper employs the differential transformation method to investigate two nonlinear ordinary differential systems for plane coquette flow having variable viscosity and thermal conductivity. The concept of differential transformation is briefly introduced, and then differential transformation method is employed to derive solutions of nonlinear equation systems. The results of differential transformation method are compared with those ones obtained by Adomian decomposition method to verify the accuracy of proposed method. The results reveal that the differential transformation method can achieve suitable results in predicting the solution of such problems.

By operating an AlGaAs waveguide array at the half band gap, we experimentally demonstrate basic features of discrete systems, which do not appear in the corresponding continuous counterpart - the slab waveguide. Under selected initial conditions, we observed nonlinearly induced locking of an initially moving soliton to the input waveguide. If the power is even higher, originally locked beams start to move again, but in a direction opposite to the initial tilt.

Opis:
The magnetooptics of an asymmetric layered waveguide structure is discussed to investigate the possibility of creating new devices that combine both nonreciprocity and nonlinearity. After addressing some fundamental magnetooptic properties and the kind of materials needed, a straightforward envelope theory is given that exploits the Voigt effect instead of the more obvious Faraday effect. It is emphasised that this choice leads to desirable design features. It is proposed that the introduction of an applied magnetic field to a waveguide structure can be achieved through the use of thin current-carrying strips. It is emphasised that the strips can be arranged to any degree of complexity and that a high degree of control over spatial soliton dynamics can be achieved. Spatial soliton light beams are selected because they can be generated, within a waveguide, in a stable form. The attractive features of using the type of magnetooptic waveguide investigated here are highlighted with examples and it is concluded that the formats proposed can be used for the fully integrated isolator capacity that modern laser systems demand.

Opis:
The current research deals with a way of using a new kind of periodic solutions called He's max-min approach for the nonlinear vibration of axially loaded Euler-Bernoulli beams. By applying this technique, the beam's natural frequencies and mode shapes can be easily obtained and a rapidly convergent sequence is obtained during the solution. The effect of vibration amplitude on the non-linear frequency and buckling load is discussed. To verify the results some comparisons are presented between max-min approach results and the exact ones to show the accuracy of this new approach. It has been discovered that the max-min approach does not necessitate small perturbation and is also suitably precise to both linear and nonlinear problems in physics and engineering.

In this paper we propose a formula of recurrent nature for calculating the inverse Laplace transforms of some rational functions. The procedure and formulae enabling to determine the values of coefficients of obtained series are presented. Proposed procedure does not require any partial fraction decomposition. Moreover, it is proved that the radius of convergence of the received series (for the respective objective function) is equal to infinity. The proposed formula can find applications in wave optics and acoustics.
