Opis:
In recent years there is an increasing interest in obtaining and investigating composite materials that comprise nanoparticles as fillers and polymers as matrix. Such composites may display combined features of both components, and sometimes even novel properties resulting from their mutual interactions. It is important that both unique size-dependent properties of nanoparticles and favorable properties of polymer material remain preserved in the composite. In this research we investigated the possibility of obtaining composite material using as polymer matrix poly (methyl methacrylate) - PMMA and $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu^{3+}$ nanopowder as filler. Three samples, containing 1, 3 and 5 mass % of $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu^{3+}$, are prepared with a dispersion casting method. The composites exhibited characteristic red emission coming from the $\text{}^{5}D_{0} → \text{}^{7}F_{2}$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$ ion in $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu^{3+}$. The observed lifetime values, around 1.1 ms, are quite high and suggest successful encapsulation of dopant ions in polymer through gadolinium oxide host. Experimental intensity parameters, transition rates and quantum efficiency of the $\text{}^{5}D_{0}$ emission are calculated from emission spectra using Judd-Ofelt theory. Influence of $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu^{3+}$ filler on the modification of glass transition and thermo-degradable properties of the polymer matrix is also investigated. Thermal analyses give evidence of unchanged thermal stability of polymer phase in the composites.

The article presents the concept solution of two main issues of visible light communication systems, i.e. the lack of a cost-effective feedback channel and the handling of high throughput. The concept is based on merging of the multiple input multiple output approach, well-known from radio transmission domain, with using of LEDs in a double role, i.e. both as emitters and detectors of light. The feasibility of the proposal was confirmed by the results of the research, carried out for two-channel system of this type.

We present absorption measurements of a pseudomorphic Zn$\text{}_{0.75}$Cd$\text{}_{0.25}$Se/ZnSe superlattice and a Zn$\text{}_{0.91}$Cd$\text{}_{0.09}$ Se/ZnSe single quantum well under high hydrostatic pressure applied by a diamond anvil cell. Excitonic transitions as 1s-heavy hole and 1s-light hole between the first bound states or minibands as well as transitions in the buffer material are visible. Transition energies are well understood by calculations of the band structure near Γ. The observed energy distance between photoluminescence and hh-absorption signal gives information on exciton localization. Whereas this distance is nearly pressure independent in the buffer, there is a significant increase at pressures P > 5 GPa for quantum structures.

Magnetic field and its gradient measurements based on coherent population trapping resonances at the D$\text{}_{1}$ line of $\text{}^{87}$Rb are performed by means of coupling two ground-state Zeeman sublevels belonging to different hyperfine levels to a common excited state. Two coherent laser fields with frequency difference of 6.8 GHz are used. They are produced by direct current modulation of a diode laser. The resonance splitting and broadening caused by the applied magnetic field is measured by scanning the laser modulation frequency around the ground-state hyperfine frequency.

We formulate the problem of a two-level system in a linearly polarized laser field in terms of a nonlinear Riccati-type differential equation and solve the equation analytically in time intervals much shorter than half the optical period. The analytical solutions for subsequent intervals are then stuck together in an iterative procedure to cover the whole scale time of the laser pulse. Very good quality of the iterative method is shown by recovering with it a number of subtle effects met in earlier numerically calculated photon-emission spectra from model molecular ions, double quantum wells, atoms, and semiconductors. The method is used to describe novel, carrier-envelope offset phase effects in the region of extreme nonlinear optics, i.e., when two-level systems are exposed to pulses of only a few cycles in duration and strength ensuring the Rabi frequency to approach the laser light frequence.

Here we present the dependences of the phase and attenuation constants of silicon carbide (SiC) cylindrical rod waveguide upon frequency at different temperatures, i.e. T = 1800C and T = 1900C when the rod radius is relatively large. We have also calculated the electric and magnetic field distributions at different frequencies in order to explain the anomalous attenuation. The SiC rod waveguide was investigated by the partial area method. The complex roots have been found by the Müller method. Computer codes for calculations were written in MATLAB language.

A compact soft X-ray microscope based on a nitrogen double-stream gas puff target soft X-ray source, operating at He-like nitrogen spectral line at the wavelength of λ =2.88 nm is presented. The desk-top size microscope was successfully demonstrated in transmission mode using the Fresnel zone-plate objective and it is suitable for soft X-ray source microscopy in the "water window" spectral range (λ = 2.3÷ 4.4 nm). Details about the soft X-ray source source, the microscope and an example of application in the biomedical field are shown and discussed.

The paper presents opportunities of cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy technique application in nitrogen oxides (NO_{x}) detection. In this method the concentration of an absorbing gas is determined by measure of decay time of the light pulse trapped in an optical cavity. The measurements are not sensitive to fluctuation of both laser power and photodetector sensitivity. The cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy technique is a modification of cavity ring down spectroscopy technique where the off-axis adjustment of the resonator is used. NO_{x} detection is carried out in the visible and infrared range. The signal is registered with a developed low noise photoreceiver. Features of the presented sensor show that it is possible to build a portable trace gases sensor. Its sensitivity could be comparable with chemical detectors. Such a system has several advantages: relatively low price, small size and weight, and detection possibility of other gases.

Consider an initial state lying on a primary resonance island. The state may tunnel into the chaotic sea surrounding it and further escape to infinity via chaotic diffusion. Properties of transport in such a situation are studied on an exemplary system - the hydrogen atom driven by microwaves. We show that the combination of tunneling followed by chaotic diffusion leads to peculiar large scale fluctuations of the AC Stark shift and ionization rates. An appropriate random matrix model describes accurately these statistical properties.

A detailed stability analysis is performed for a highly excited semiconductor modelled as an exciton-electron-hole-photon system driven externally by optical pumping. Chaotic self-pulsations are shown to occur on both the upper and lower branches of the bistable steady state curve of the system via a sequence of period-doubling oscillation process. Such a route to chaos is well known in laser physics and in other nonlinear systems but not in highly excited semiconductors yet.

By using the double-lambda configuration of energy levels and three classical fields, an atom or ion in a high-Q resonant cavity can be manipulated to create a single-mode quantum state in the cavity that is an arbitrary combination of Fock states for that mode. The same principles of operation can be applied to a cavity with much lower Q in order to produce a "photon pistol", a device that "shoots" one and only one photon when a trigger is pulled, and emits no photons at other times.

Generalizations of Bell's inequalities for Einstein Podolsky and Rosen entangled correlations for arbitrary spin s are discussed. Violations of local realism and the classical limit of quantum nonlocality for large s are discussed. The role of the polarization and of the spin alignment in the violation of the Bell inequalities are investigated. A Bayes analysis of entangled correlations is performed using the nonlocal quantum distribution. The local but nonpositive Einstein Podolsky and Rosen quantum distribution is investigated in the limit when s → ∞. The classical limit of the quantum Malus law for arbitrary spin s is formulated in terms of the spin path integrals.
