Opis:
The effect of temperature on a wide-angle paratellurite acousto-optic tunable filter is analyzed on the example of two different acousto-optic tunable filter configurations. The acousto-optic tunable filter operation was between -50°C to +40°C; also the survival of an acousto-optic tunable filter device at -130°C was demonstrated. The phase matching ultrasound frequency varies with temperature. We link this temperature shift to photoelastic characteristics of the $TeO_2$. A generalization is made for all wide-angle acousto-optic tunable filters based on $TeO_2$ crystal. In addition, the temperature influence on the acoustic walk off angle was examined.

A stimulated light scattering in thin waveguide film, filled by point Kerr-type dipoles, under inclined pumping beam incidence is examined. The iterative procedure of successive approximations is applied to define qualitatively the space spectrum of waveguide mode scattered field at the condition of its self-consistency with dipole oscillations. A comparison with experimental data is discussed briefly.

In this article the transformation of the Laguerre-Gaussian beam with radial mode number n and azimuthal mode number l, into a vortex, diverging or nondiverging Bessel beam with increased, decreased or zeroth phase singularity order has been investigated theoretically. We deduce and study analytical expressions for the amplitude and intensity distribution of the diffracted wave field in the process of Fresnel diffraction, using the stationary phase method, and also, for the vortex radius and the propagation distance of the output field.

Opis:
An exact, closed form solution is presented for a diffraction problem by a half-plane embedded in a chiral medium. The incidence direction of an electromagnetic plane wave is assumed to be normal to the edge of the half-plane. The problem has been reduced to a boundary value problem for two modal potentials satisfying distinct Helmholtz equations and coupled by the boundary conditions at the half-plane. A solution is constructed with the aid of the Wiener-Hopf technique. A basic feature of the problem is its two-mode character exhibited by: two families of diffracted rays, reflection coupling of the modes, excitation of lateral waves.

We examine the problem of transmission of electromagnetic waves in a multiparameter reflectionless dielectric. It is shown that it is possible to obtain an analytic form for the phase of the exact transmission amplitude. In the high frequency limit the exact result is found to lead to the eikonal approximation. Interestingly, the high frequency limit and long-range approximation required for the validity of the eikonal approximation are not independent here.

The paper presents two methods of determining the planar waveguide birefringence and the measuring stands, which are used to determine the beat length of planar waveguide structures. The light is introduced into the waveguide through a prism coupler. The first method applies measurements of scattered light. The second method uses an immersion coupler. The most fundamental property of an immersion coupler is the possibility to change fluently the propagation length while immersing the waveguide.

Basic problems of acousto-optic interaction in terahertz region of electromagnetic spectrum are considered. We obtained experimental results that are fitted by generalized theoretical model developed with the goals to describe the interaction in detail. Our analysis showed that crystalline germanium is one of the best materials to observe the acousto-optic interaction in the terahertz range. The carried out study proved that a germanium based acousto-optic device could be used for fast and reliable deflection of monochromatic radiation in the terahertz spectral region.

Aimed at high resolution, an asymmetric point spread function has been obtained with good and bad sides by introducing three level asymmetric pupil functions. The good side has decreased side lobes while the bad side has increased side lobes. The asymmetry has been found to increase with the width of the edge strips within the slit aperture. On the other hand, there does not appear dependence of the asymmetry of the point spread function on the degree of amplitude apodization. But the magnitude of reduction of optical side-lobes is found to increase to a great extent by the amplitude apodization.

Opis:
This paper theoretically and experimentally examines a specific regime of acousto-optic diffraction during which an arbitrarily polarized incident light in a paratellurite crystal is scattered simultaneously into two orthogonally polarized diffraction maxima. We examined acoustic energy walk-off in the crystal and its influence on phase matching as well as on distribution of light energy between the two diffraction orders. This influence was theoretically considered by means of wave vector diagrams illustrating momentum conservation law during the photon-phonon interaction. We obtained expressions for mismatch parameters in the ordinary +1 and extraordinary -1 diffraction orders both depending on the walk-off angle. The obtained parameters were used in the Raman-Nath system of coupled-wave equations to calculate the diffracted light intensities and frequency bandwidths of diffraction. We measured the bandwidths in experiments carried out in the (11̅0) plane of paratellurite crystal at the walk-off angle equal to 54°.

Opis:
The extinction paradox, the difference of classical and quantum scattering cross-sections for the scattering of particles by a rigid sphere (σ$\text{}^{Q}$=2π a$\text{}^{2}$=2σ$\text{}^{C}$ for ka ≫ 1), is analyzed in a simpler 2D model of a rigid cylindrical potential. Rigorous solutions of the Schrödinger equation for particle beams, including also finite width beams, are derived and employed in the description of the scattering process. The scattering particle fluxes, with a thorough treatment of the forward directions, are being studied. It is pointed out that for wide beams (w ≫ a) the scattered flux can reach the value determined by the quantum theory, provided that it is measured at distances R ≫ waλ. Moderately narrow beams (1≪ w≪ a) behave as classical trajectories, and their scattering can be described in classical terms. Thus, the classical limit of quantum scattering requires not only that the de Broglie wavelength λ$\text{}_{B}$ is much smaller than the size of the scatterer (a ≫ λ$\text{}_{B}$), but also that the transverse width of beams of de Broglie's waves is small, w≪ a.

The paper deals with the optical response from periodic lamellar magnetic structure consisting of permalloy strips on Si substrate covered by Cr protection layer. The ultrathin structure is magnetized in polar geometry and the spectral dependence of magneto-optic response is computed using rigorous coupled wave analysis. The results are compared with the data obtained from magneto-optical ellipsometry experiments. Further model computation helps to understand the basic features of the Kerr rotation spectra and reveal the possible reason of deviation between the experimental data and the model computation.

Opis:
Cloaking devices designed using the coordinate transform approach were shown to be realizable, at least in principle, within the realm of electromagnetic metamaterials. In this paper we investigate the strictness of conditions imposed on the parameters of metamaterial cloaks by calculating the degree of wave scattering when those parameters have variations with respect to theoretically ideal values. A simple idea is used to obtain analytic results for the case of the nonideal two-dimensional cloaking cylinder. Also, results of realistic finite element simulations of the Helmholtz equation are presented and it is found that they are in excellent agreement with the analytic results.

Opis:
Considered in the work are known properties of holographic interferometer as according to the correlator with output signal in the form of interference fringes. It is known that a space correlation has various ratios of intensity between central correlation peak and background part for objects with different phase microrelief of a surface. Correspondingly an interference pattern must have different space distribution of contrast. A magnitude of contrast depends on changes in distribution of microrelief of investigated object, whereas the interference pattern depends on macroscopic modification of a form of the object. Used here is a scheme of Fourier holography with a random phase modulator in signal beam, reference beam is a point source, and restoring beam is the random phase modulator with random phase shift against initial random phase modulator. Also investigated is a recording of holographic interferogram with these random phase modulators. As the results of original theoretical consideration there was obtained an expression for fringe contrast and intensity of correlation peak. This model was tested by simulating of forming of holographic interferogram and reconstruction of the cross-correlation peak with phase distortions of various statistical distributions. Compared here are theoretical results, simulation results, and results obtained in real experiment.

Opis:
Anderson localization of electromagnetic waves in random arrays of dielectric cylinders confined within a planar metallic waveguide is studied. The disordered dielectric medium is modeled by a system of randomly distributed 2D electric dipoles. An effective theoretical approach based on the method of images is developed. A clear distinction between isolated localized waves (which exist in finite media) and the band of localized waves (which appears only in the limit of the infinite medium) is presented. The Anderson transition emerging in the limit of an infinite medium is observed both in finite size scaling analysis of transmission and in the properties of the spectra of some random matrices. The sound physical interpretation of the obtained results suggests deeper insight into the existing experimental and theoretical work.
