Opis:
Song Hong basin is a very large basin with complicated onshore to offshore geological structure. The basin comprises the pre-Tertiary basement and Kainozoi sequences. This study focused on the evolution of submarine channel in Miocene sequence. The study interval is the major reservoir of the basin characterized as submarine channel complex and lower to Middle Miocene carbonates with the porosity of 15–25%. The channel is highly eroded into the substrate with c. 7 km wide and 20 km long, trending northwest-southeast. They are ‘U’ to ‘V’ shape, sub-parallel to deep faults which reactivated in the Early and Mid-Late Miocene. The channel deposit is characterized by cut and fill architecture and can be seen as high amplitude, bi-directional downlap. The channels are likely to be controlled by the two inverted phases in Late Oligocene and Middle-Late Miocene. The tectonic events are not only controls the flow directions but also modified the shape of the channels. The occurrence of well-developed submarine channel give a great hydrocarbon potential for the Song Hong basin.

Opis:
The Miocene Carpathian foredeep basin in Poland (CFB) developed in front of the Outer Carpathian fold-and-thrust belt, at the junction of the East European craton and the Palaeozoic platform. 3D seismic data, cores and well logs from Sokołów area (vicinity of Rzeszów) were used in order to construct new depositional model of the Miocene succession of the Carpathian foredeep. The gas-bearing Miocene infill of the CFB is characterized by a shallowing-upward trend of sedimentation and consists of hemipelagic, turbiditic and deltaic and nearshore-to-estuarine facies associations. Lowermost part of the Miocene infill seems to has been deposited from the North. Such direction of sediment supply was related to influence of existing relief of the pre-Miocene basement, where very deep (up to 1,5 km) erosional valleys cut into the pre-Miocene (Precambrian) basement due to inversion and uplift of the SE segment of theMid-Polish Trough are located. Upper part of theMiocene infill reflects sediment progradation from the South, from the Carpathian area into the foredeep basin. In the Rzeszów area existence of the so-called anhydrite-less island, i.e. relatively large area devoid of the Badenian evaporitic cover caused by the post-Badenian uplift and widespread erosion of evaporites, has been postulated for many years. Interpretation of 3D seismic data showed that such model should be abandoned. In the studied part of the CFB, Late Badenian evaporitic sedimentation was restricted to the axial parts of deep paleovalleys. Evaporites deposited in these valleys have been rarely encountered by exploration wells as such wells were almost exclusively located above basement highs separating erosional paleovalleys, hence giving incorrect assumption regarding regional lack of evaporitic cover. It is possible that in axial parts of these valleys important gas accumulations might exist, charged from the South and sealed by the Badenian evaporites.

Opis:
Hydrocarbon exploration in The Netherlands has a chequered history from serendipitous oil shows via chance oil/gas discoveries to finding the largest continental European oil field in 1943, followed by finding the largest gas field in the world in 1959. The present contribution traces the development of moderate to good porosity/permeability trends in depositional facies of Zechstein Stassfurt carbonates in a ‘gas play’ intermediate in significance between the above two plays but all in the northern part of The Netherlands. Various depositional facies in the Stassfurt carbonates were turned into ‘carbonate fabric units’ by diagenetic processes creating or occluding the porosity/permeability. This formed moderate to good gas reservoirs in barrier-shoal, open-marine shelf and proximal-slope carbonates in the subsurface of the province of Drenthe in the NE Netherlands. The diagenetic models forming these carbonate fabric units are linked to the variety of facies in a depositional model which shows explain and predicts the reservoir trends. Such depositional/diagenetic facies are ‘translated’ into characteristic petrophysical values recognisable on wire line logs in uncored wells, and in characteristic seismic expressions that show these trends in undrilled areas. This approach has been proven to be effective in delineating porosity trends, visualised by 3-D seismic in the Collendoornerveen field, and thus provides a new exploration ‘tool’ in hydrocarbon exploration.

Opis:
Reprocessing of 3D seismic data from the Carpathian Foreland and new interpretation techniques enabled more accurate mapping of structure and facies distribution of Miocene series and their bedrock. The reprocessing of a part of Sokołów Małopolski–Smolarzyny, 2001 3D seismic survey carried out in 2006 was focused on the Pogwizdów structure. Application of GeoProbeŽ software and the detailed analysis of seismic trace attributes along with the structural interpretation gave new information on morphology of the pre-Miocene bedrock and Miocene series. The area of erosional channels (paleovalleys), where anhydrite sediments and probably the Baranów Beds were distinguished, is particularly interesting as it is characterized by some distinctive anomalies of the analyzed seismic attributes. The evidence for presence of anhydrite within the so-called anhydrite-less island significantly enhances probability of discovering new gas fields with the Baranów Beds as reservoirs and anhydrites as a seal. The number of potential gas fields should compensate for their small reserves.

Integrated analysis of seismic anomalies together with well logging data interpretation was a basis for reconstruction of processes of depositional environment of the Miocene succession, in the Carpathian Foredeep. Vertical and lateral variability of sediments was analysed using detailed wells correlation. Then, using the analysis of a shape of well logs, the outline of depositional architecture was determined. In order to determine the sedimentology environment in a larger area, the detailed 3D seismic data results interpretation was used. The analysis of geoanomalies forms and coherence of seismic record resulted in differentiation of various paleomorphology elements such as: channels, subaqueous levees, fans and lithosom.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono zalety i ograniczenia systemu Seismobile zebrane w wyniku wstępnych badań terenowych. Mogą też występować problemy z rejestracją poprawnego sygnału GPS w trudnych warunkach terenowych, wykorzystywanego do lokalizacji systemu i synchronizacji czasu pracy jego elementów. Niezależnie od wskazanych ograniczeń wyniki uzyskiwane systemem Seismobile wskazują na jego dużą przydatność w badaniach defektów płytkiego podłoża.
In the article advantages and limitations of the Seismobile system, which were recognized during initial field measurements, were described. This is a mobile system adapted to performing seismic and GPR surveys simultaneously. It is a fundamental attribute which distinguishes this system from streamers that were developed thus far. In the paper measurements methodology of the Seismobile system, containing preparing equipment, data acquisition, and seismic survey performing, was illustrated. Based on previous tests, the advantages of the Seismobile system which included, among others, the limitation of time and labor consumption during surveys, a wireless connection between parts of the system, independence of the measuring modules, possibility of changing offset depending on the research task, the mobile seismic source, possibility of using any type of seismic receiver, saving data on widely available SDHC memory sticks, docking station for archiving and recharging batteries of the measuring modules. The seismobile system, like those kinds of devices, has different types of limitations, mainly technical. Preparing system to the first measurement is time-consuming and requires quite a lot of work. Measuring sets on the metal plates can be unstable in difficult terrains and their contact with the basement is weaker from geophones embedded in the rock mass. The battery life will be shorter in the course of time. In hard conditions, problems with receiving GPS signals, which are used for localization and timing are possible. Regardless of indicated limitations, the results achieved with the Seismobile system are leading for its usefulness in inspections of shallow basement’s faults.

Opis:
The Miocene Carpathian Foredeep Basin in Poland (CFB) developed in front of the Outer Carpathian fold-and-thrust belt, at the junction of the East European craton and the Palaeozoic platform. Within the upper Badenian through Sarmatian deposits of its eastern part, the CFB hosts numerous gas fields. The gas-bearing Miocene succession is characterised by a shallowing-upward trend of sedimentation and consists of offshore hemipelagic, turbiditic and deltaic and nearshore-to-estuarine facies associa-tions. The foredeep basin formation was largely controlled by the structure of its Neoproterozoic–Early Cambrian basement, especially by NW–SE trending faults inherited from Mesozoic tectonic history of SE Poland (subsidence and inversion of the Mid-Polish Trough). Several NW–SE-elongated, narrow basement pop-up structures developed in the northeasternmost part of the CFB, one of them being the Ryszkowa Wola block. The uplift of the pop-up basement block involved Miocene reactivation of older fault zones and resulted in the formation of a narrow, NW–SE elongated Ryszkowa Wola horst (RWH) above it, within the Miocene strata. A complex system of right-stepping, en-echelon, mainly normal faults of predominantly E–W trend, branching off from the NW–SE-striking boundaries of the RWH, has developed around and above the horst, leading to compartmentalisation of the Miocene succession into numerous, mutually displaced and rotated fault blocks. Such an association of deformation structures recognised from the 3D seismics was interpreted in terms of transpressive conditions with the horizontal maximum tectonic compression axis directed š E–W and a sinistral strike-slip displacements on NW–SE striking faults in the basement. The structural interpretation of the Ryszkowa Wola structure proposed here is in line with published results of analogue modelling of fault patterns in sediments overlying active strike-slip discontinuities in a rigid basement. The basement-cover interaction within the Ryszkowa Wola structure in the area of Sieniawa–Rudka was partly coeval with the Miocene deposition of the CFB infill. The uplift and horizontal displacements of the Ryszkowa Wola basement block modified the local subsidence pattern and the organisation of Miocene depositional systems. The syn-depositional strike-slip fault activity in the basement of the CFB resulted in differential movements and rotations of kinematically linked fault-blocks in the Miocene succession around and above the RWH, leading to the formation of numerous gas traps.

Opis:
The Polish Carpathian Foredeep Basin (PCFB) is the northern compartment of a foreland basin system that surrounds the Carpathian orogenic belt. The axis of the eastern part of the PCFB plunges gently towards SE, where the Miocene basin-fill succession exceeds 2000 metres in thickness. The Miocene succession developed in shallow marine ramp settings and is subdivided into 3 lithostratigraphic units: sub-evaporitic (onshore-to-nearshore), evaporitic, and supra-evaporitic (offshore-to-estuarine). The upper unit includes a siliciclastic series (Upper Badenian–Sarmatian), which constitutes the main segment of the succession. It displays an asymmetric, shallowing-up trend, expressed by the following sequence: hemipelagic-turbiditic-deltaic-low-energy nearshore-to-estuarine facies associations. Sediment accummulation in the basin has been significantly overprinted by higher-frequency cyclicity and encloses several genetic stratigraphic sequences bounded by MFS surfaces. An early phase of the basin development was characterised by high-rate subsidence and slow-rate sedimentation (hemipelagic facies). The turbiditic facies association identified within the Sieniawa–Rudka area resulted from southward progradation of a submarine fan/prodeltaic depositional system, mainly fed from the northern and north–western continental margins of the basin. An overall SE–ward palaeoslope inclination controlled the main phase of the deltaic progradation, which had gradually replaced the turbiditic systems. The late deltaic phase was characterised by ENE palaeotransport directions. The final phase of the basin filling took place in shallow-water, low-energy, nearshore-to-estuarine environments. In the early stage of the basin development, a complex system of NW–SE elongated basement pop-ups and flower structures in the Miocene succession were produced by reactivation and inversion of Mesozoic basement faults. The growth of these positive structures modified local subsidence patterns and affected the organisation of depositional systems of the siliciclastic series. A narrow elevation of the RyszkowaWola High (RWH) gradually grew above one of the pop-up structures. Complex structural-stratigraphic hydrocarbon traps developed along the RWH, due to interaction between the growth of local faults and the development of the successive depositional systems. Tidally-modified delta-top and estuarine facies are the most common hydrocarbon hosts within individual sequences of the „deltaic” segment of the succession..

Opis:
The Potwar sub-basin is an important hydrocarbon producing zone of the Upper Indus basin and has significant oil and gas potential. The Balkassar area is the main oil field of the Potwar sub-basin and oil is mainly produced from Eocene carbonates. The Chorgali Formation is of Eocene age and is the main reservoir rock in this area. Structurally, the Potwar sub-basin is complicated, and surface features often do not reflect subsurface structures. This is due to the presence of detachments at different levels. In such cases, it is necessary to integrate seismic data with geological information for an accurate delineation of subsurface structures. Eleven seismic profiles were interpreted to understand subsurface structural style. To correlate well data with seismic data, a synthetic seismogram has been generated. Time, velocity and depth contour maps have been prepared. A 3D model for the Chorgali Formation has been prepared which confirms that this is a four-way anticlinal structure bounded by faults. It makes this structure more favorable for hydrocarbon accumulation. Moreover, a cross section has been prepared for five wells to show that the Chorgali Formation is spreading. Based on it, to show the relationship between compressional tectonics and basement slope, a 3D structural model has been prepared. In this case study, the Balkassar anticline was interpreted as a four-way closure pop-up structure which provides a structural trap for the accumulation of hydrocarbons. This study will help us understand the accumulation of hydrocarbons in the same type of structural traps in the Potwar sub-basin and in similar kinds of basins. It is also relevant to oil exploration within Pakistan.

Zostały też wykonane liczne badania i pomiary geofizyczne.
The Lubień Salt Dome is one of the several dozen salt structures found in the Polish Lowlands. He was identified by gravimetric research conducted in the years 1937-1950. It lies in the form of an irregular salt column, narrowing with depth. In its cross-section, the dome has a circular shape with a maximum diameter of about 2.8 km. The interior of the dome is built by evaporates of the Zechstein salt series, which are cooverlain by an anhydrite-gypsum-clay cap-rock. In the vicinity of the dome there are Upper and Middle Jurassic formations over which Palaeogene, Neogene and Quaternary deposits. 31 holes were drilled in the area of the dome, 20 of which drilled a series of salt. Numerous geophysical surveys and measurements were also made. Based on the data from seismic measurements made in 2014 and their reprocessing and reinterpretation in 2017 and 2018, spatial models of the Lubień Salt Dome were developed and the basic parameters of the dome were updated.

"Rudna" copper mine

Opis:
A block development operation at the "Rudna" copper mine (KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.) encountered a "compressed gas trap" that caused the ejection of fragmented rock material into a drift. Faced with a new threat of gas ejection the mine needed to find methods to identify potential gas concentration zones prior to any further exploration work. Surface seismic surveying was chosen as a widely-accepted standard method of investigating rockmass structure and tectonics and pinpointing natural gas deposits. An area of one square kilometre was selected directly above the ejection site, a 3D seismic survey, known as Duża Wólka 3D, was performed and a survey well S-421A was drilled. The objective was to investigate the overall rock structure, especially the structure of Zechstein and top Rotliegendes formations, as well as to attempt identifying anomalous zones, which could be linked with the gas saturation of Ca1 dolomites, on the 3D seismic image at the P1 level (Zechstein/ Rotliegendes boundary). An interpretation of multi-scenario seismic modelling of the recorded data helped to: – recognize the structure and tectonics of the area, including minor faults cutting through the top-level Rotliegendes formations and floor-level Zechstein formations. Such faults could constitute migration channels for Carboniferous-period gases, – locate zones with nearly zero-reflection amplitude at the surface of the top-level Rotliegendes (P1 seismic boundary), which would suggest a reduction of elastic parameters of the Ca1 dolomite. This reduction could be linked to an increased porosity and fracturing of the dolomite and its saturation with gas (a reduction of the seismic wavelet propagation velocity). Credibility of this interpretation is already partly corroborated by data from wells drilled in the Zechstein limestone by the mine. The paper presents the first in the world attempt to use the surface seismic survey for location of zones with small gas concentration in porous rocks at the Zechstein/Rotliegendes boundary. Such zones should not be identified with gas pools that occur in the Zechstein Limestone (Ca1) in the area of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline.

Opis:
Seismic attributes are an invaluable tool supporting the interpretation of structurally complex areas. They can be used at each stage of structural analysis: 1) the reconnaissance of the structural style based on 3D seismic survey; 2) detailed analysis of fractures 3) QC (Quality Control) and the verification of structural interpretation. This paper illustrates how seismic attributes can be successfully applied to the analysis of structurally complex basins, using examples from the Bonaparte Basin, North West Shelf of Australia. The North West Shelf of Australia (NWSA) is an important petroleum province (dominantly gas accumulations, oil occurs in minor “sweet spots”). Hydrocarbons within the NWSA were captured in complex structural traps. For this reason detailed structural analysis of this area is essential to understand the relationship between strain, fault geometry and linkage, which allow a preliminary assessment of trap integrity. The results show that seismic attributes such as Semblance or Combo Volume provide immediate and efficient insight into structural evaluation of 3D seismic data. RMS Amplitude, Shaded Relief and Principal Components are proved to be useful for enhancing fracture patterns (e.g. polygonal faulting) that are usually poorly resolved on conventional amplitude seismic data.

Opis:
This study analyzed the role of PERFORM 3D in the preliminary evaluation of seismic performance of engineering structures. Firstly, PERFORM 3D was briefly introduced, and its material constitutive model and basic model were analyzed. Then, taking a high-rise building project in Yulin, Shaanxi, China, as an example, PERFORM 3D was used to evaluate its seismic performance. After establishing the engineering model, five seismic waves were selected for simulation. The results showed that the maximum values of X-axis inter-story displacement angle and Y-axis displacement angle were 1/500 and 1/360 respectively, which were far less than the standard limit; the overall energy dissipation was good, the damping was small, the overall deformation was good, and the seismic performance was also good. In conclusion, PERFORM 3D has a good performance in the preliminary evaluation of seismic performance of engineering, and it is worth further promotion and application.
