Opis:
Education and self-improvement are key features of human behavior. However, learning in the physical world is not always desirable or achievable. That is how simulators came to be. There are domains where purely virtual simulators can be created in contrast to physical ones. In this research we present a novel environment for learning, using a natural user interface. We, humans, are not designed to operate and manipulate objects via keyboard, mouse or a controller. The natural way of interaction and communication is achieved through our actuators (hands and feet) and our sensors (hearing, vision, touch, smell and taste). That is the reason why it makes more sense to use sensors that can track our skeletal movements, are able to estimate our pose, and interpret our gestures. After acquiring and processing the desired – natural input, a system can analyze and translate those gestures into movement signals.

Opis:
In the present research, Stopping Sight Distance (SSD) adequacy is assessed through a three-dimensional approach, which associates road visibility in terms of grade effect. SSD adequacy is controlled through the difference between the available and the required SSD. The research is focused on a right turned, two lane rural road, associated with a crest vertical curve for a given speed value. The road design is in accordance with the Greek Road Design Guidelines (OMOE-X, 2001) by utilizing the control design parameters for a design speed of 80km/h and a wide range of grade values, where the vertex point of the crest vertical curve is positioned at fixed points along the road axis. The investigation is based on a vehicle speed exceeding the design speed by 20km/h. In total 1874 cases of compound alignments were examined and the results revealed that the available sight distance is decreasing while grade increases. The vehicle speed on the tangent sections was proved unacceptable in terms of providing SSD adequacy. However, it was found that SSD adequacy is granted when the vertical vertex falls inside the circular arc of the curve’s horizontal alignment, while the optimum area is defined shortly before the horizontal vertex point.

Opis:
Additive manufacturing in recent years has become one of the fastest growing technologies. The increasing availability of 3D printing devices means that every year more and more devices of this type are found in the homes of ordinary people. Unfortunately, air pollution is formed during the process. Their main types include Ultra Fine Particles (UFP) and Volatile Compounds (VOC). In the event of air flow restriction, these substances can accumulate in the room and then enter the organisms of people staying there. The article presents the main substances that have been identified in various studies available in literature. Health aspects and potential threats related to inhalation of substances contained in dusts and gases generated during the process are shown, taking into account the division into individual types of printing materials. The article also presents the differences between the research results for 3d printing from individual plastics among different authors and describes possible causes of discrepancies.

Finding a suitable method of 3D model creation for a specific task is becoming more important with the rapid spread of digitalization. This paper deals with the use of 3D scanning as a method of creating 3D models for immersive virtual reality applications. A methodology is presented that covers all the steps, from initial object selection to importing a scanned 3D model into a virtual reality environment. Various objects were selected and scanned to test this methodology and its utilization potential. Finally, the paper evaluates the potential utilization of this methodology for immersive virtual reality applications for education and various methods of industrial engineering.

Opis:
In this article, the author will try to answer the question of how to best reproduce an element of the real world, for example, a building or small architecture, and an architectural detail of the Architectural Department in Gliwice, real in terms of quality, and its representation in the virtual world as a 3D model. There will also be a comparison of the execution of the building model in relation to the methods used so far by students of the Faculty of Architecture as part of the Architecture and Lighting Faculty. This is to improve the quality of the concept and to create a methodology for creating models to illuminate them in a virtual built environment. Applications and devices will be used for comparison by the author.

Opis:
This article presents the possibilities of using computer scanning to design a location for a sewage treatment plan taking into account its impact on the landscape. The activities undertaken could constitute a part of the proceedings carried out in performing environmental impact assessments. Completion of the goal requires literary studies and the analysis of interdisciplinary studies, including planning, land and academic research. The research has been divided into several parts, of which the first one concerns, among other things, the analysis of the value of the natural environment in a given area and analysis of the planning documents in place. The land research consists of scanning the area for the sewage treatment plant using the 3D method. The collected data will constitute the basis for the possibility of using computer scanning to visualise the development in an area of high landscape value.

Opis:
In recent years, many scientific and industrial centres in the world developed virtual reality systems or laboratories. At present, among the most advanced virtual reality systems are CAVE-type (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) installations. Such systems usually consist of four, five, or six projection screens arranged in the form of a closed or hemi-closed space. The basic task of such systems is to ensure the effect of user “immersion” in the surrounding environment. The effect of user “immersion” into virtual reality in such systems is largely dependent on optical properties of the system, especially on quality of projection of three-dimensional images. In this paper, techniques of projection of three-dimensional (3D) images in CAVE-type virtual reality systems are analysed. The requirements of these techniques for such virtual reality systems are outlined. Based on the results of measurements performed in a unique CAVE-type virtual reality laboratory equipped with two different 3D projection techniques, named Immersive 3D Visualization Lab (I3DVL), that was recently opened at the Gdańsk University of Technology, the stereoscopic parameters and colour gamut of Infitec and Active Stereo stereoscopic projection techniques are examined and discussed. The obtained results enable to estimate the projection system quality for application in CAVE-type virtual reality installations.
