Opis:
In this study, experimental and theoretical double differential cross section (DDCS) data for methane-electron interaction mechanism after the impact of a 250 eV electron have been comprehensively determined for a wide energy range of the detected electron, from 50 to 225 eV. The first Born-One Coulomb wave modeling with Gamow factor has been calculated to analyze experimental DDCS results for a correct description of the electron impact ionization of methane molecule. It is found that these theoretical calculations are successful to describe the post-collision interaction effects due to the Coulomb long-range interaction between the outgoing electrons in the final state. A considerable agreement is found between experimental and theoretical results.

Opis:
Double differential cross-sections have been measured after ionizing electron collisions with methane at primary energy of 350 eV using a conventional electron spectrometer. An electrostatic analyzer was used to measure angular distributions of secondary electrons with energies between 25 eV and 300 eV. Angles of emission were 25° to 130°. It was found that the outgoing electrons belong to one of the two energetically separated groups, either the fast electrons which are scattered mainly in forward direction or the slow electrons which are distributed isotropically into all angles. For higher ejection energies the maxima shifted towards smaller angles as expected from binary type collision.

Opis:
Electron collisions with nitrogen molecules have an important role for example in ionospheric and auroral phenomena in the upper atmosphere of the Earth. These processes are important in electrical discharges involving atmospheric gases. Due to the key features electron collisions with N₂ have been under particular interest and extensively studied for last decades. Cross-section data is extremely useful in understanding the systematic of the ionization process. Since the earliest cross-section measurements of N₂, there have been a great number of improvements and new developments on theoretical and experimental methods. A crossed-beam apparatus so called electron spectrometer that has an effusive gas source and electron gun is used to obtain the cross-sections. Scattered and ejected electrons are analyzed by hemispherical electron analyzer. Here we report recent measurements of double differential cross-section for N₂ as a function of electron angle at incident electron energy of 350 eV.

Opis:
We report results of experimental studies on the silver clusters formation in laser desorption and matrix assisted laser desorption. Time-of-flight mass spectrometer was used to control process itself. Firstly, we investigated dependence of silver salts of variety chemical nature on formation of silver clusters. The most prominent was usage of organic silver salts (silver trifluoroacetate and silver benzoate). The biggest species obtained was $Ag_{45}^{+}$ (silver benzoate). Secondly, we examined influence of organic matrix (2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid) on formation efficiency of silver clusters in matrix assisted laser desorption. In all cases we observed increase of silver clusters size.

Opis:
Optical absorption and emission spectroscopy together with low energy electron interaction (elastic scattering, excitation, ionization, resonances) with biologically relevant molecules (nitrogen, oxygen, water, alcohols, tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydrofurfuril alcohol, 3-hydroxytetrahydrofuran, pyrimidine, glycine, alanine) are studied in order to understand radiation damage and to investigate the presence of pollutants in the atmosphere. Versatile high resolution electron spectrometers are used in the present study of electron-molecule interactions. Energy loss spectra were recorded for these molecules in order to identify electronic transitions from ground state to both allowed and optically forbidden states. Optical emission spectra have been recorded from gas discharge processes by low resolution optical spectrometer (Ocean Optics 2000). Also, electronic spectra were compared with high resolution synchrotron photoabsorption spectra where these spectra had been available. Experimental methods of absorption-based laser spectroscopy were reviewed being of the most widely used analytical tools for detection of a specific molecule and quantitative measurements, based on the Beer-Lambert absorption law.

Opis:
The high resolution double focusing mass spectrometer of reversed Nier-Johnson geometry was used in research of ionization and fragmentation processes of ethanol molecules $C_2H_5OH$. Using the mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy technique, fragmentation paths and kinetic energy release distributions were examined for the four fragmentation reactions: $C_2H_6O^{+} \rightarrow C_2H_5O^{+},$ $C_2H_6O^{+} \rightarrow C_2H_3O^{+},$ $CH_3O^{+} \rightarrow CH_2O^{+}$ and $CH_3O^{+} \rightarrow CHO^{+}$. For all fragment ions from these reactions mean values of kinetic energy release 〈ε〉 were determined. We calculated mean values of 〈ε〉 as 22.70 meV, 62.15 meV, 30.25 meV, and 117.20 meV for $C_2H_5O^{+},$ $C_2H_3O^{+},$ $CH_2O^{+},$ and for $CHO^{+}$ ions, respectively.
