Opis:
The total X-ray attenuation coefficients in elements Zr, Ag, and In for K$\text{}_{α}$ and K$\text{}_{β}$ characteristic lines of elements with different Z (33 ≤ Z ≤ 92) were estimated by measuring attenuation in transmission method. The intensity of K X-rays was monitored by a Ge(Li) detector with energy resolution 190 eV at 5.9 keV. The experimentally measured attenuation coefficients were found in good agreement with the theoretical values of attenuation coefficients calculated by Storm, Israel and Hubbell, Seltzer.

Ultra-bright ultraviolet and soft X-ray beams produced at the Advanced Light Source are achieving world records in spectroscopic resolution. High-resolution spectroscopy in the 20 to 300 eV photon energy range has been applied to photoionization yield and photoemission measurements in atoms and molecules to reveal previously unseen resonance series in doubly-excited autoionizing states of helium, to analyze angular distributions in photoemission from doubly-excited states of helium and other rare gases, to reveal vibrational and ligand-field splitting of small molecules through photoionization, and, to examine photoemission from doubly- and triply-excited hollow lithium atomic states.

Opis:
Alloying effect on the K$\text{}_{α}$ and K$\text{}_{β}$ X-ray fluorescence cross-sections in Cr$\text{}_{x}$Ni$\text{}_{1-x}$ and Cr$\text{}_{x}$Al$\text{}_{1-x}$ alloys was studied. The samples were excited by gamma rays with energy 59.5 keV from a$\text{}^{241}$Am radioisotope source and K X-rays emitted by the samples were counted with a Si(Li) detector. We found that K$\text{}_{α}$ and K$\text{}_{β}$ X-ray fluorescence cross-sections are changed by alloying effect in Cr$\text{}_{x}$Ni$\text{}_{1-x}$ and Cr$\text{}_{x}$Al$\text{}_{1-x}$ alloys for different composition x. We compared our results with the theoretical values.

Tunneling regime, introduced by Keldysh, in the interaction of strong lasers with atoms has been now accepted as the reliable method for describing processes when low frequency lasers are involved. Yet it was always assumed that the ionized electrons are leaving the atom with zero initial momentum. Because we are interested in how non-zero momentum influences the transition probability of tunnel ionization, we obtained the exact expression for the momentum. Here the estimation of the transition probability with nonzero momentum included was conducted. Potassium atoms in the laser field whose intensity varied from 10$\text{}^{13}$ W/cm$\text{}^{2}$ to 10$\text{}^{14}$ W/cm$\text{}^{2}$ were studied. It seems that all energy of laser field is used for tunneling ionization process at the beginning of laser pulse - ionization probability is large. After that, with further action of laser pulse, ionization probability decreases, probably because part of laser pulse energy is used for increasing momentum of ejected electrons, leaving smaller amounts of light quanta available for ionization of remaining electrons. If laser pulse lasts long enough, then the amounts of light quanta available for ionization become larger, resulting in increase in ionization probability, now with greater starting energy of ejected electrons.

Opis:
Potassium atoms in circularly polarized laser field whose intensity (I) varies from 2× $10^{12}$ W/$cm^2$ to 2.5× $10^{14}$ W/$cm^2$ were studied. In the case when there is zero initial momentum, transition rate (that depends only on I) exhibits standard behaviour: as I increases, so thus the rate, until it reaches its maximum value at 1.1× $10^{14}$ W/$cm^2$; after that, rate diminishes as I increases. In the case of non-zero initial momentum, transition rate (that now depends on I but additionally on initial momentum, too) exhibits following behaviour: dependence of the rate on I follows standard pattern, it rises with increase of I until it reaches its maximum, and then diminishes. But with increase of momentum, ionization rate gradually diminishes.

The multiphoton ionization of neutral atoms irradiated by photons is an interesting topic for experimental and also theoretical examination. We study the influence of ponderomotive potential and non-zero initial momentum of ejected electrons on transition rate, and also on the generalized cross-section in the case of a multiphoton ionization process. Also, we study how the transition rate depends on the number of absorbed photons.

In this paper, by estimating the influence of different atom charge Z to the transition rate in tunnel ionization of atoms in strong laser fields we are devoloping further the observations from our earlier work. That is in the process of tunnel ionization including non-zero momentum into calculation of the transition rate gives result in lower transition rates for ejecting electrons from atoms by low-frequency laser fields, indicating that much of the photons are engaged in transferring energy to the free electron and thus unable to contribute to the effect of ionization. This is a conclusion that needs further experimental testing, which would clarify the mechanisms of tunnel ionization.

In the present paper, an overview on work concerning coherent population trapping within the hyperfine manifold of the sodium D$\text{}_{1}$-line is given. Besides manifestation of coherent population trapping for different Λ-schemes, also phase dependent processes in closed contour systems (four-level double Λ-schemes) are discussed, including the case of phase dependent electromagnetically induced transparency.

Vacancy transfer probabilities from K to L shell were measured using $I_{Kβ}//I_{Kα}$ intensity ratios for six elements in the atomic region 16 ≤ Z ≤ 22. The K X-rays from the targets excited by 5.96 keV (1.85 GBq $\text{}^{55}Fe$ filtered annular source) incident photon were obtained using a high resolution PGT model Si(Li) detector. Theoretical values were calculated using radiative and radiationless transition rates of these elements. The measured values of $η_{KL}$ were compared with the theoretical ones. Reasonable agreement was typically obtained between present and theoretical values.

Rates of the blackbody radiation-induced excitation and decay were calculated for the S-, P-, D-series of the Rydberg states in sodium atoms with the Fues model potential method. Comparisons between three branches of the state depopulation mechanism (spontaneous decays, blakbody radiation-induced and excitations) were carried out. Simple analytical formulas were proposed for ratios of the blackbody radiation-induced decay and excitation rates to the spontaneous decay rate.

We present a review of recent experimental and theoretical attempts to realize and investigate Bose-Einstein condensation in systems of cooled alkali atoms. We discuss a second quantized theory that describes quantum optics of such systems. We study in detail: (a) the weak field scattering off the condensate; and (b), the probing of the condensate with short laser pulses.

The $K_{β} // K_{α}$ X-ray intensity ratios of Co, Ni, Cu and Zn in metalophthalocyanines complexes have been studied. Co, Ni, Cu and Zn elements have been excited by using 59.5 keV photons emitted by 50 mCi $\text{}^{241}Am$ radioactive source. K X-rays emitted by samples have been counted by a Si(Li) detector with resolution 0.16 keV at 5.9 keV. We have found that $K_{β} // K_{α}$ X-ray intensity ratios of Co, Ni, Zn, and Cu complexes have changed depending on chemical structures of Co, Ni, Zn and Cu. The measured values have been compared with the theoretical predictions and experimental values of pure elements.

We investigated the dynamically modified interaction between Rydberg atoms and a single mode of a microwave cavity driven by a strong external field. With a monochromatic injected field we observed dynamic suppression of spontaneous emission, when the intracavity Rabi frequency exceeds the cavity linewidth. We discuss a theoretical model using non-Markovian decay rates, which is in excellent agreement with experiment. When a bichromatic driving field is used, enhanced decay reappears in narrow resonance zones as the detunings and injected intensities are varied. These results are interpreted in terms of cavity-modified transitions between the Floquet states of a two-level atom. Striking aspects of these transitions are their small linewidth and an asymmetry between emission and absorption.
