Opis:
The isotope of bromine, ⁷⁵Br ($T_{1/2}$ = 1.6 h), has a considerable interest in nuclear medicine. The radionuclide ⁷⁵Br is a positron emitter and is useful in positron emission tomography (PET) for fast metabolic processes. In this study the reaction cross sections were calculated for suggested various production mechanisms. The cross sections of charged particle-induced reactions, leading to ⁷⁵Br, were calculated for ⁷⁶Se(p,2n)⁷⁵Br, ⁷⁶Se(d,3n)⁷⁵Br, ⁷⁵As(³He,3n)⁷⁵Br and ⁷⁵As(⁴He,4n)⁷⁵Br using TALYS 1.6. The calculated results are compared with measurement data available in literature. The calculated results indicate that, ⁷⁶Se(p,2n)⁷⁵Br and ⁷⁶Se(d,3n)⁷⁵Br reaction channels have higher cross section values than that of ⁷⁵As(³He,3n)⁷⁵Br reaction channel. Moreover all these reaction channels are in the range of a medium-sized cyclotron.

Opis:
A new modified semi-empirical formula including non-elastic scattering and Coulomb effects for the (α,n) reaction cross-section was obtained. The available experimental data were used to get the (α,n) reaction cross-section systematics. The dependence between the cross-section and asymmetry term was discussed for (α,n) reaction at 18.5±3 MeV energies classifying the target nuclei into odd Z-even N and even Z-even N. The coefficients of determination (R²) for all classifications were detected to exhibit the amount of relation between asymmetry term and cross-sections obtained from the modified semi-empirical formula with new coefficients.

Opis:
Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, is an imaging technique used for diagnostics of coronary artery disease in people by evaluating the amount of blood reaching the heart muscle. During myocardial perfusion scintigraphy a radiopharmaceutical is injected into the patient and after a period of time a series of images are acquired using gamma camera rotated by 180° around the patient. The distribution of the radiopharmaceutical is then determined using the technology of single photon emission computed tomography. The most commonly used agents in myocardial perfusion scintigraphy radiopharmaceuticals are Tl-201 and Tc-99m. The production of such radiopharmaceuticals containing Tl-201 and Tc-99m has been examined by this study. This study was performed using Monte Carlo nuclear reaction simulation code TALYS 1.6.

Opis:
A Monte Carlo code is proposed for determination of mass attenuation coefficients of gamma rays for some polymer and plastic materials. It is based on simulation of interaction processes of gamma rays with the energy of 59.5, 80.9, 140.5, 279, 356.5, 511, 661.6, 1173.2, 1332.5 keV with matter. The method was tested by comparison of the simulation results with the literature values (ANSI/ANS-6.4.3 and GRIC toolkit). The compatible behaviour of mass attenuation coefficients versus incident photon energy for the investigated energy range approves the use of this code for the extended energy range and several materials. Also, the values of half-value layer were calculated for assessment of shielding effectiveness of these materials.

Opis:
Knowledge of the cross sections of reactions of charged particles with target material is needed to understand well the mechanisms of nuclear reactions. One of the main application fields of nuclear technology and nuclear reactions is medicine. Radioisotopes are used in medicine and production of these radioisotopes is important. In the production processes, the cross sections must be known. For this purpose, in this study, theoretical cross sections of production of In isotopes by alpha irradiation have been calculated using Talys 1.6 nuclear reaction simulation code. The obtained results are compared with the existing experimental data.

The linear attenuation coefficients of water and some solid phantom materials, namely of solid water RMI-457, of plastic water, of RW3 solid water, and of Perspex were determined by Monte Carlo calculations, for gamma-ray photons with energies of 59.5, 80.9, 140.5, 356.5, 661.6, 1173.2, and 1332.5 keV. The calculated values were compared with the experimental results presented by other researchers and with theoretical values obtained using the XCOM database. Good agreement was observed between the calculations, the experimental, and the theoretical values. The results indicate that the process in Monte Carlo code can be followed to determine the equivalency of other materials at several energies. Three shielding factors such as half-value layer, tenth-value layer, and mean free path were calculated at all considered gamma-ray energies.
