    Opis:
    Pauls imagery of the Body of Christ as a description of the Church differs from its plausible hellenistic parallels, among other things, in bringing into prominence the weaker, shameful members of the Body (1 Cor 12:22-24). They are considered necessary for the Body not primarily because of the importance of their function for the whole, but because of their particular role in revealing the paradox of Christs weakness leading to glory (cf. 1 Cor 1-4).The Church can be, therefore, considered not only the place of Christs salvific presence and activity, but also an icon of the Body of Christ: crucified and glorified. This christomorphic image should be recognized and enacted by the Church herself particularly in celebrating the liturgy of the Eucharist.

    The author of this paper seeks the original historical context as well as the oldest form, structure and concept of the biblical records of the covenants of Abraham and Isaac with the local ruler(s) as recorded in Gen 21:22–24, 25–33; 26:26–31. The patriarchs, who enjoy the status of foreign/sojourner/ resident in the land of the Philistine king, Abimelek, and their peaceful agreements are depicted in three biblical sources, which are very similar to each other in terms of structure and literary context. Those are compared with selected Hittite, Babylonian and Assyrian records of the royal covenants from the 2 millennium BC. The methodology adopted in the research allowed several important formal and substantive points of contact to be noted in the compared sources. Through this comparison, the paper confirms that Gen 21:22–24, 25 33; 26:26–31 reflects two ancient patterns of bilateral covenants between the monarch and an equal or subordinate social partner: royal grants and suzerain-vassal treaties. The paper also discusses the socio-cultural and legal spectrum of the Near Eastern royal procedures and how they were re-edited and adapted by the editors responsible for the current version of the biblical cycles about the patriarchs.

    Pierwsze słowa Prologu Ewangelii Jana „Na początku” są literacką aluzją do pierwszych słów Księgi Rodzaju. Ewangelista wpisuje się w ten sposób w długą tradycję pism mądrościowych, które interpretowały i rozwijały teologię stworzenia świata. Działo się to zwłaszcza w tekstach, w których mądrość Boża była uosobiona (Prz 8,22–23 oraz Syr 24). Pierwsze słowo Prologu (ἐν ἀρχῇ) odsyła czytelnika nie tylko do opisu stworzenia świata, ale do pism mądrościowych i do całego Pisma (tj. Starego Testamentu) jako do klucza interpretacyjnego Ewangelii Jana.
    The first words of the Prologue to St. John’s Gospel – “In the beginning” – are a literary allusion to the first words of Genesis. The Evangelist continues in this manner a long tradition of wisdom literature, which interpreted and developed creation theology, in particular in the texts where Wisdom was personified (Prov 8,22–23 and Sir 24). In fact, the first word of the Prologue (ἐν ἀρχῇ) refers its readers not just to the creation narrative, but to biblical wisdom literature and indeed to the whole corpus of Scripture, i.e. Old Testament, as the interpretative key to the Fourth Gospel.
