Opis:
Ligament reconstruction is one of the surgical methods for treatment of anterior cruciate ligament injury. The main purpose of rehabilitation after surgical ligament reconstruction is to obtain maximal efficiency of knee joint, their stability and appropriate lower limbs encumbrance. Static posturography is one of the control, rehabilitative and diagnostic tools in such treatment. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the posture stability differences between healthy people and patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. The centre of pressure sway was registered using the standard posturography platform (Pro-med). During the test, the subject stood freely with eyes open and closed. In order to determine the stability of the subject, the average velocity of the centre of pressure sway, and the average accretion rate of surface area encircled by centre of pressure, a mean radius of centre of pressure and amount of its displacement were calculated. Parameters measured for the eyes closed posture were significantly greater for people after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, while differences between groups for eyes open test were statistically insignificant. This indicates impairment of the somatosensoric posture control system. It should be noted that selected stability indicators: an average velocity of the centre of pressure sway, its anterior-posterior and mediolateral components, a mean radius of centre of pressure and a mean accretion rate of surface area encircled by centre of pressure varied in both groups.

Opis:
Electric stimulation of various parts of the nervous system is a widely used therapeutic method and a principle of operation of prosthetic devices. Its usefulness has been proven in areas such as treatment of neurological disorders and cochlear prostheses. However the dynamic mechanisms underlying these applications are not well understood. In order to shed some light on this problem we study the response of the Hodgkin-Huxley neuron subject to periodic train of biphasic rectangular current pulses. One of the simpler ways to understand the behavior of such a nonlinear system is the analysis of the global bifurcation diagram in the period-amplitude plane. For short pulses the topology of this diagram is approximately invariant with respect to the pulse polarity and shape details. The lowest excitation threshold for charge-balanced input was obtained for cathodic-first pulses with an inter-phase gap approximately equal to 5 ms. The firing rate of the Hodgkin-Huxley neuron stimulated at the frequency of its natural resonance is a square root function of the pulse amplitude. At nonresonant frequencies the quiescent state and the firing state coexist and transition to firing is a discontinuous one. We found a multimodal transition in the regime of irregular firing between the 2:1 and 3:1 locked-in states. This transition separates the regime of odd-only multiples of the stimulus period from the regime where modes of both parities participate in the response. A strong antiresonant effect was found between the states 3:1 and 4:1, where the modes (2 + 3n) : 1, where n=0,1,2,..., were entirely absent. The antiresonant effects at high stimulation frequency, such as multimodal transition, may provide an explanation for the therapeutic mechanism of deep brain stimulation.

Opis:
We analyze the response of the Morris-Lecar model to a periodic train of short current pulses in the period-amplitude plane. For a wide parameter range encompassing both class 2 and class 3 behavior in the Hodgkin classification there is a multimodal transition between the set of odd modes and the set of all modes. It is located between the 2:1 and 3:1 locked-in regions. It is the same dynamic instability as the one discovered earlier in the Hodgkin-Huxley model and observed experimentally in squid giant axons. It appears simultaneously with the bistability of the states 2:1 and 3:1 in the perithreshold regime. These results imply that the multimodal transition may be a universal property of resonant neurons.

Opis:
During COVID-19 pandemic, a decreased social contact is recommended as a basic principle for prevention of disease. Nevertheless, there are many activities that requires going out from home. Seeking food is a basic necessary activity. To support staying at home concept, food delivery service is widely used in many countries during COVID-19 pandemic. It is believed that having food delivery rider to buy and send food directly to home can decreased risk from social contact.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to answer the question: does the pandemic affect the ability to achieve the sustainable development goals? Design/methodology/approach: The article analyzes selected, available literature on sustainable development, from the genesis of the phenomenon to the current situation. It invoked, among other things, the idea of the European Green Deal. The most current issues related to the pandemic reality were addressed. The themes and changes highlighted are based on data from available reports and statistical analyses. Findings: By the time the pandemic broke out, the sustainability goals had been achieved gradually. But the pandemic has forced policymakers to think long-term. The conditions for transition to the green economy, i.e. the green transition, have also become crucial. In many countries, including Poland, the need for better achievement of social goals in addition to economic or environmental ones has become apparent. Further work is needed to achieve the sustainable development goals. Research limitations/implications: The text refers to a limited number of studies. The problems presented in the paper still need to be empirically confirmed in relation to a greater number of examples, which should result in the publication of subsequent studies. It will also be necessary to fully diagnose the post-pandemic situation and retrace the threads taken up. Originality/value: The article points to already visible changes, being the result of the continuing pandemic, from the perspective of sustainable development goals.

Opis:
The paper presents optical fiber sensors for point investigation of cancer tissues. The construction of several sensors has been described, including selection of proper optical fiber as well as the construction of measuring head. Being part of medical endoscopes, presented sensors can be applied to investigate autofluorescence spectra in various tissue areas. The level of autofluorescence intensity indicates the stage of disease advancement. The paper presents the results of investigating autofluorescence spectra for different cancer tissues. Various areas of cancer tissues have been investigated in order to determine the level of disease advancement. In the paper new constructions of fluorescent fiber sensors are presented. The sensors were used to investigate human and animal normal and tumor tissues. The fiber sensors, possible to use in videoendoscopy, are very small. The comparative analysis of fluorescent spectra of normal and tumor tissues is presented.
