    Opis:
    Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy has shown to be a powerful tool to study the nanostructures of porous materials. Positron emission tomograph is a device allowing imaging of metabolic processes e.g. in human bodies. A newly developed device, the Jagiellonian PET will allow positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy in addition to imaging, thus combining both analyses providing new methods for physics and medicine. In this contribution we present a computer program that is compatible with the Jagiellonian PET software. We compare its performance with the standard program LT 9.0 by using positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy data from hexane measurements at different temperatures. Our program is based on an iterative procedure, and our fits prove that it performs as good as LT 9.0.

    The article constitutes an analysis of the final pericope of the Book of the Wisdom of Sirach (Sir 51:13-30) in its Greek version. The text can be divided into two parts: in the first one (vv. 13-22) the author relates his personal experience of seeking and finding wisdom, while in the second part (vv. 23-30) he admonishes those who lack education to join his school and partake of the wisdom he himself has found. The wisdom the sage refers to is of a religious character (he asked for it in prayer – vv. 13b, 14a, 19c; it manifests itself in good deeds – v. 19b). Not only does the author make it clear in the first part of the pericope that the vital requirement for finding wisdom is to start early in life (vv. 13a, 15d), but he also explains the ways in which wisdom may be found (a human being should subordinate all spheres of life to finding it – vv. 13b, 14b, 15b, 19a, 21a). The pericope lists the means necessary to find wisdom (namely, purification – v. 20b, following the path of righteousness – v. 15c, striving for goodness – v. 18a, turning to wisdom – v. 20a, complying with the Law – v. 19b, listening – v. 16a, and repentance for the mistakes made – v. 19d) as well as mentions the gifts wisdom grants those who find it (joy – v. 15b, formation – v. 16b, heart, that is intellectual capabilities – v. 20c, language thanks to which one can praise God and share wisdom with others – v. 22a; all of these gifts are called a good possession – v. 21b). The sage emphasizes the fact that finding wisdom is not particularly difficult and does not require a tremendous effort (v. 16a), but searching for wisdom should be a constant part of life for those who wish to have it (they should never stop searching for it – v. 14b). In part two (vv. 23-30), which is of a didactic character, the sage encourages the uneducated to join his school so that he can share wisdom with them. The author admonishes those who – like him – desire wisdom to take advantage of his experience and undergo formation in his school. Sirach presents two ways leading to wisdom. The first one requires personal involvement in searching for it, whilst the second one entails taking possession of wisdom from someone who has already found it. In Sir 51:13-30 the author expresses great optimism concerning the possibility of finding and possessing wisdom. His position is at odds with the pessimism of the Book of Job and the Book of Ecclesiastes in this respect. The pericope under analysis here serves as a summary of the opinions expressed by the sage earlier in his book (cf. especially 6:18-37; 14:20 – 15:10; 24, 33:18-19). Together with Sir 1:1-10 it the frames the whole book and constitutes the recapitulation of the most significant theological aspects of Sirach’s text as well as a synthesis of his theology.

    Opis:
    The paper discusses the effects of the glow-discharge assisted nitriding of 3H13 (X30Cr13 PN-EN 10088-1:1998) steel carried out under various conditions upon the microstructure, chemical composition, phase composition and topography of the steel surface. Moreover, this paper presents also how this process improves the performance properties of the steel, such as its corrosion and frictional wear resistance. The present experiments were intended to be the initial stage of the study aimed at developing the fundamentals of new hybrid technologies of composite surface layers, based on a combination of glow discharge nitriding with ion implantation, Ion Beam Assisted Deposition (IBAD) and Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD).
    W artykule przedstawiono wpływ warunków azotowania jarzeniowego stali 3H13 (X30Cr13 PN-EN 10088-1:1998) na mikrostrukturę, skład chemiczny i fazowy, topografię powierzchni, a także właściwości użytkowe, takie jak: odporność na korozję i zużycie przez tarcie. Praca stanowi pierwszy etap badań ukierunkowanych na opracowanie podstaw technologii hybrydowych wytwarzania kompozytowych warstw powierzchniowych łączących proces azotowania jarzeniowego z metodami implantacji jonów, IBAD oraz PLD.

    In this paper a method to perform direct T and CPT symmetry tests is briefly discussed, exploiting the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations of neutral kaon pairs produced at a ϕ-factory. The KLOE-2 experiment at DAΦNE, the Frascati ϕ-factory, could make statistically significant tests of this type.

    Opis:
    An experiment, with unpolarized deuteron beam of 160 MeV impinging on liquid hydrogen and liquid deuterium targets, was carried out using BINA detector at KVI, in Groningen, the Netherlands. Data were collected for the purpose of obtaining high precision differential cross-section for the deuteron break-up reaction. The elastic scattering data were also collected alongside. We present here the methods applied in analysis of data collected in the backward part of the detector.

    The luminescence decay curves from the $\text{}^{4}$F $\text{}_{9}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{2}$ and $\text{}^{4}$I $\text{}_{9}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{2}$ states of the cubic hexachloroelpasolite crystals Cs$\text{}_{2}$NaEr$\text{}_{x}$Y$\text{}_{1-x}$Cl$\text{}_{6}$ (x = 0.001÷1) have been measured over the temperature range 10-300 K. The $\text{}^{4}$I $\text{}_{9}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{2}$ state undergoes an electric dipole vibronic-electric dipole vibronic cross-relaxation process at 300 K, but this mechanism is inefficient below 165 K. Excitation into the $\text{}^{4}$F $\text{}_{9}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{2}$ state, results in emission in the green, blue and ultra violet regions. The up-conversion processes which could account for the ultraviolet emission are discussed.
