Opis:: compared to experiment. Recent corrections from radiative recoil of order α(Zα)$\text{}^{5}$m$\text{}^{2}$/M and pure recoil of order (Zα)$\text{}^{6}$m$\text{}^{2}$/M are reviewed. Contributions of order α$\text{}^{2}$(Zα)$\text{}^{5}$m have been calculated from certain classes of diagrams. These are described while other as yet uncalculated terms are mentioned. The largest error in the theory is the uncertain measured value of the proton electromagnetic radius.

Opis:: A review is presented of the virtual cloud of photons surrounding a nonrelativistic electron. Two cases are considered. In the first, the electron is taken as bound to a proton to form a is hydrogen atom. In the second case the electron is considered as free. It is shown that the virtual cloud, as measured by the transverse electromagnetic energy density, in the near region of the ground-state hydrogen is not influenced by the dynamic properties of the atom and in practice it coincides with that of the free electron. The influence of the atomic eigenvalue spectrum is evident in the far region of the atom where retardation effects play an important role. These results are discussed from a physical point of view.

Opis:: Neutron reflectometry is an important technique for studying the composition and structure of thin films and layered media on a nanometer scale. Neutrons are particularly useful as probes of organic and magnetic materials since the information that can be obtained is often unique. Furthermore, the fact that neutrons traverse relatively large distances in single crystalline materials, such as silicon, permit investigations in diverse sample environments. The fundamental theoretical principles and experimental methodology of neutron reflectometry are presented, in addition to several illustrative examples of measurements relevant to polymer science, biology, electrochemistry, and magnetism.

Opis:: W rozdziale 12. Apokalipsy św. Jana, kluczowym dla całości dzieła, pojawia się tajemnicza postać Niewiasty obleczonej w słońce. Na przestrzeni dziejów bardzo różnie interpretowano tę postać. Przeciętny czytelnik spontanicznie kojarzy ją z Maryją, gdyż artyści często przedstawiają Matkę Chrystusa zgodnie z apokaliptycznym opisem; jednak najstarsi komentatorzy widzieli w Niewieście Lud Boży Starego i Nowego Testamentu. Później rozpowszechniła się – i jest często akceptowana w naszych czasach – interpretacja maryjno-eklezjologiczna, dopatrująca się w Niewieście zarówno Maryi, jak i Kościoła. Pewne elementy opisu Niewiasty bardziej pasują bowiem do Maryi, inne – do Kościoła, a wiele można interpretować w obu znaczeniach. Ukazuje to druga część artykułu, w której omówiono poszczególne elementy symboliczne obrazu Niewiasty, podkreślając nawiązania do tekstów Starego Testamentu.
In chapter 12 of the Apocalypse, key to the whole work, there appears the mysterious figure of a Woman clothed with the sun. Throughout history, this figure has been interpreted in many different ways. The average reader spontaneously associates her with Mary, as artists often portray the Mother of Christ according to the apocalyptic description; however, the oldest commentators saw in the Woman the People of God of the Old and New Testaments. Later on, the Marian-ecclesiological interpretation became widespread – and is often accepted in our Times – which perceives the Woman as both Mary and the Church. Certain elements of the description of the Woman are more suited to Mary, others – to the Church, and many can be interpreted in both senses. This is shown in the second part of the article, which discusses the individual symbolic elements of the image of the Woman, emphasizing the references to the texts of the Old Testament.
