Opis:
The real time monitoring of environment context aware activities is becoming a standard in the service delivery in a wide range of domains (child and elderly care and supervision, logistics, circulation, and other). The safety of people, goods and premises depends on the prompt reaction to potential hazards identified at an early stage to engage appropriate control actions. This requires capturing real time data to process locally at the device level or communicate to backend systems for real time decision making. This research examines the wireless sensor network and radio frequency identification technology integration in smart homes to support advanced safety systems deployed upstream to safety and emergency response. These systems are based on the use of hybrid intelligent decision support systems configured in a multi-distributed architecture enabled by the wireless communication of detection and tracking data to support intelligent real-time monitoring in smart buildings. This paper introduces first the concept of wireless sensor network and radio frequency identification technology integration showing the various options for the task distribution between radio frequency identification and hybrid intelligent decision support systems. This integration is then illustrated in a multi-distributed system architecture to identify motion and control access in a smart building using a room capacity model for occupancy and evacuation, access rights and a navigation map automatically generated by the system. The solution shown in the case study is based on a virtual layout of the smart building which is implemented using the capabilities of the building information model and hybrid intelligent decision support system.

In the solar energy application, there are several obstacles during the design of projects. The investors are still enforcing with deliberately carrying out the right and feasible project decision. In this point simulation techniques have been emerging their indispensable importance. Thereby the simulation can be used as an adaptive purpose not only during the design process of a plant but also for the existing plants efficacy while determining operational condition of solar system on a daily basis by probabilistic methods due to random characteristics of the meteorological data. This study mainly consists two parts. The first part of this study overarches the review of existing software tools and models which are reachable at the preparation time of this study. Then the reviewed software tools and models were classified briefly in the figures. The second part of the study outlines the developed new code in C# computer programming language for the solar calculations. The results which were obtained framed the developed code, were evaluated with the convenient existing software tools and models for assessment of their correlation and also the results were demonstrated with graphs for their utilization. Consequently the software systems were enlightened that are mostly used in scientific projects including solar software simulation packages and modeling background together with comparison of separate or combined PV software programs by their field of application which would bolster further research studies.

Electrostatic energy analyzers are irreplaceable instruments to analyze the electron beams energies. In this context, the knowledge of electron trajectories in electrostatic energy analyzers has major importance in collision physics as well as in different scientific instruments for surface science. In this study, electron trajectories for different energies in an ideal field 180° hemispherical deflector analyzer are investigated by artificial neural network prediction method. The SIMION 8.1 simulation program is used as a data source for training and testing of artificial neural network. Artificial neural network based prediction has been performed using Matlab R2012b program. Obtained performance results indicate that this approach provides new perspectives for the rapid solution to the problems in charged particle optics.

Simulations are performed according to the Axelrod model of culture dissemination, with modified mechanism of repulsion. Previously, repulsion was considered by Radillo-Diaz et al. as dependent on a predefined threshold. Here the probabilities of attraction and repulsion are calculated from the number of cells in the same states. We also investigate the influence of some homogeneity, introduced to the initial state. As the result of the probabilistic definition of repulsion, the ordered state vanishes. A small cluster of a few percent of population is retained only if in the initial state a set of agents is prepared in the same state. We conclude that the modelled imitation is successful only with respect to agents, and not only their features.

In this study, an optimization analysis of the hydraulic gear pump cover with design of experiments and response surface method has been conducted. The sample of the solid cover of a hydraulic pump has been parametrically modelled. Structural strength analysis of the modelled hydraulic pump cover has been realized using finite element method. To prevent the concentration of stress on the hydraulic pump cover and to keep the stress values on the safe side, design inputs were not exceeded. According to the analysis results of this optimization study; the wall thickness of the hydraulic pump cover has been reduced. Finally, experimental tests were performed on hydraulic pump test setup, for verification of the simulation results.

The implementation of the remote control, monitoring and maintenance of industrial automation systems based on real-time criteria is becoming more difficult as the distance increases. ATM is an important transport, switching, network management and backbone technology that offers different solutions to real-time communication with different classes of service. In this study, the effects on real-time communication of AAL 3/4 and AAL 5 classes of service of ATM were researched on a model in which the communication between WorldFIP industrial network nodes and ATM network nodes was provided over a bridge. First, a communication system consisting of a WorldFIP network, ATM network and bridge were modeled on a simulation tool and implemented. Afterwards, the system performance was analyzed under different loads within the classes of service AAL 3/4 and AAL 5. The analysis results have indicated that compared to AAL 5, AAL 3/4 better satisfies the real-time communication criteria. This result has shown that in both real-time access to a remote industrial automation systems and communication among remote industrial automation systems, ATM is preferable as a backbone and AAL 3/4 as the class of service.

Physical and mathematical models as well as numerical algorithms for simulation of advanced technological processes, such as thermal annealing after low-energy ion implantation used during the VLSI fabrication are presented. In this paper we propose a model that treats the migration of the impurity atoms at the thermal annealing. We take into account process nonlinearity and influence of non-uniform defects distribution as well as electric field and elastic stress on the migration of atoms. The redistribution of point defects as well as the diffusion of nonequilibrium impurity interstitials in silicon are described by time-dependent quasi-linear parabolic equations. The results of numerical calculations are presented as well.

In this study, design of an electronic air-conditioning system was carried out using Matlab/Simulink software. The air-conditioning system was designed as a laboratory experimental setup. The aim of this study was to revise and to reuse an outdated air-conditioning laboratory unit, by using improved methods. General equations were defined separately for each part and cell of this air conditioning system. Using these equations Matlab/Simulink models for every component were created. The Matlab/Simulink models were combined and verified with theoretical results. The simulation results show that theoretical results are compatible with the simulation results. These results were tested for input and output air enthalpy values and for humidity values. In addition, air mass flow rates for the number of different fan speeds were compared. The coherent simulation results showed that the general model of the air conditioning system, designed in Matlab/Simulink, behaves correctly. This model will be used in the future studies for comparison of real system results with simulation results.

A Monte Carlo method based numerical model of hot cavity surface ion source that takes into account radioactive decay and the delay due to the sticking of particles to ionizer surface is considered. The influence of electron impact ionization by thermionic electrons accelerated by the extraction field is investigated. It is shown that the contribution from that process rises with decreasing half-life period and cannot be neglected, especially for substances of small surface ionization coefficient. The changes of relative yields from electron impact and surface processes with the length of the average sticking time are also studied.

The numerical model of ionization of short-lived nuclides in spherical hot cavities is presented. Two different cavity configurations are considered: one of them (the hemispherical one) resembles that known from already existing ion sources while the other (closer to the full sphere) could be more efficient for short-lived isotopes. Changes of ionization efficiency with the half-life period as well as with the particle average sticking time are presented and discussed. Influence of the extraction opening radius on ionization efficiency is also under investigation.

The measurements of the angular distributions of charged particles have a long history in atomic and molecular collision studies. To detect all electrons originating from collision has great importance in experimental studies. Due to the physical constraints of the experimental instruments, electrons in definite angles can be detected. Magnetic angle changer is designed to steer electrons scattered at undetectable angles. The magnetic angle changer is a source of the localized magnetic field. A well-controlled magnetic field in the interaction region changes the angles of the electron trajectories. In this study, artificial neural networks have been performed to obtain variation of the magnetic field strength as a function of radial distance calculated from boundary element method. A stringent quality filter is used for data to produce more robust artificial neural network based prediction. The results indicate that the well-trained artificial neural networks can predict the effect on the radial dependence of the localized magnetic field with tremendous precision. It is believed that this study will introduce a new insight into collision studies.

Surface ionisation in a new type of hot cavity characterised by the shape of a truncated cone is considered in the paper. Influence of the hot cavity shape and its temperature on the ionisation efficiency of stable and long-lived nuclides is under investigation and the supremacy of elongated conical cavities is proven. The role of the extraction opening size is studied and its optimal diameter ( ≈ 1 mm) is found for the considered cavity shapes. It is shown that the extraction voltages of 1-2 kV are large enough to obtain high efficiencies and saturation of the current-voltage curves is observed above these values. Changes of ionisation effciency with the ioniser temperature are investigated - increase of ion yield with T is observed. It was proven that cold spots inside the ioniser cavity (near the extraction opening - in the considered case) can degrade ion source performance by several tens percent.

Magnetic separation is one of the methods that are used to separate magnetic and non-magnetic components from an input mixture. Its effectiveness strongly depends on the strength and distribution of magnetic field in the separator. It is economical to use Halbach permanent magnet arrays to create a suitable magnetic field, since they do not change their properties during separation and do not need electrical energy. During real magnetization process, however, there can be a problem with correct orientation of their magnetization vector. The work based on 2D computer models shows the influence of different orientations of magnetization vectors of individual elements of Halbach arrays on the size and distribution of the magnetic field in the considered separator space. Several model systems that contained four to six typical AlNiCo, SmCo and NdFeB cube shaped magnets with the dimensions 50×50×50 $mm^3$ were used for the analysis.

A computer-based numerical modelling of the adsorption process of gas phase metallic particles on the surface of a graphite substrate has been performed via the application of molecular dynamics simulation method. The simulation relates to an extensive STM-based experiment performed in this field, and reproduces part of the experimental results. Both two-body and many-body inter-atomic potentials have been employed. A Morse-type potential describing the metal-carbon interactions at the interface was specifically formulated for this modelling. Intercalation of silver in graphite has been observed as well as the correct alignments of monomers, dimers and two-dimensional islands on the surface.

In this work, calculations of the design of bremsstrahlung photon collimator within the scope of the Turkish Accelerator Center Project are presented. At TARLA facility (Turkish Accelerator Radiation Laboratory at Ankara), bremsstrahlung photons created by the accelerated electron beams, are transferred to the experimental area through the collimator, which has a conical geometry with length of 320 cm. In this study, Al, Fe and Cu materials were selected as collimator materials. All interactions between the collimator materials and Gaussian photon beam in 8-32 MeV energy range (8 MeV, 16 MeV, 24 MeV and 32 MeV) were taken into account. The entry radius, geometry and chosen materials are important parameters for collimator design. The photon fluence from collimator, secondary particle distributions and the number of photons, scattered from the collimator, were calculated as functions of these parameters. All calculations were made with the Monte Carlo code FLUKA. According to the results of these simulations, collimator with conical geometry, made of aluminium, with 0.25 cm entry radius, was determined to be appropriate for TARLA bremsstarhlung photon facility of Turkish Accelerator Center.

K-means algorithm is one of the simplest and fastest clustering algorithms existing since more than four decades. One of the limitations of this algorithm is estimating number of clusters in advance. This algorithm also suffers from random initialization problem. This paper proposes a heuristic which initializes the cluster centers and estimates the number of clusters as a discrete value. The method estimates the number of clusters and initializes many cluster centers successfully for the clusters that are dense and separated significantly. The method selects a new cluster center in each iteration. The point selected is the point which is most dissimilar from the previously chosen points. The proposed algorithm is experimented on various synthetic data and the results are encouraging.

Opis:
Series of mathematical phantoms of human body, given by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), was programmed as input files for MCNP-4B code. Detailed check of geometry of these phantoms performed by MCNP-4B, discovered some minor errors, that resulted in overlapping of some organs. Three types of errors were found and described here: (a) colon overlaps with pelvis bone; (b) facial skeleton penetrate the head skin, and (c) esophagus overlaps with stomach. These errors prevent correct execution of program. Proposal for correction of these errors are given in this paper.

Opis:
This work is an an early stage of a larger project aiming at answering the question whether or not the Preisach map is really fingerprinting magnetic materials. More precisely, we are interested whether the Preisach model of magnetic hysteresis indeed contains any physics or is just a convenient modeling tool. To this extent we study a very simple mechanical system, thus fully tractable, subjected to the external force. Despite of its simplicity, our model captures all the fundamental features of real magnetic materials, namely their hysteretic behavior, coercivity, remanent magnetization, and saturation at high fields. Both the overall shape of major hysteresis loop as well as first order reversal curves are reproduced quite correctly; they are very similar to those observed in magnetic materials. The model essentially consists of a single, spring loaded, rigid and rotative bar with non-zero friction torque. The length of a projection of this bar onto the direction of an external force is identified with magnetization. The friction torque and the spring constant are the only freely adjustable parameters of our model. Here we investigate, and present, their influence on the inferred Preisach maps.

Opis:
A community of agents is subject to a stream of messages, which are represented as points on a plane of issues. Messages are sent by media and by agents themselves. Messages from media shape the public opinion. They are unbiased, i.e. positive and negative opinions on a given issue appear with equal frequencies. In our previous work, the only criterion to receive a message by an agent is if the distance between this message and the ones received earlier does not exceed the given value of the tolerance parameter. Here we introduce a possibility to address a message to a given neighbour. We show that this option reduces the unanimity effect, what improves the collective performance.

Opis:
One of the most fundamental examination in intensive care medicine is cardiac output measurement, realized by pulmonary artery catherization. The thermodilution cardiac output estimation method is not resistant to various kinds of disturbances, which significantly decreases its sensitivity and specificity. The paper depicts investigations related to analysis of presumable new source of unreliability - asymmetric blood flow through pulmonary vessels. The investigations consisted of two phases: clinical examination (to obtain anatomical data) and computer modeling (to simulate the flow symmetry).

Opis:
We have focused on temperature changes in the collimator at the TARLA bremsstrahlung photon facility. One of the important parameters during the design of an ideal collimator, especially for high-energy photons, is temperature rise in the collimator material. For this purpose, energy deposition in the collimator materials was simulated using the FLUKA Monte Carlo code. Depending on energy deposition values, temperature rise in the collimator materials of Al, Cu and Fe was calculated for photon beams with 8-32 MeV energies.
