Opis:
In the present paper a model of an apparatus function for the bremsstrahlung isochromat spectroscopy method is proposed. The study presented in this work is based on experimental results obtained with a particular spectrometer working at the quantum energy of Cr K$\text{}_{α1}$ (5414 eV). However, most of implications are general for the bremsstrahlung isochromat spectroscopy independently of particular construction of a spectrometer. From the theoretical considerations it was found that the total apparatus function, F$\text{}_{t}$, is composed of two main subfunctions in such a manner that F$\text{}_{t}$ is not necessarily constant along the isochromat spectrum. The properties of the function as well as the question how it influences the measured spectra are discussed. Considerations presented in this paper are limited to the most essential instrumental factors broadening the bremsstrahlung isochromat spectra which can be described in terms of the apparatus function. In order to estimate the width of the apparatus function some experimental results of bremsstrahlung isochromat spectroscopy measurements of chosen substances with various apparatus settings are shown.

Opis:
The design and construction of a compact, magnetically guided slow positron beam is discussed. The system uses a 30 mCi $\text{}^{22}$Νa source. It consists of three main parts: (i) the source chamber with a tungsten foil transmission moderator and the extraction optics, (ii) the beam line with magnetic beam guidance, a bent tube for the separation of the fast positrons and the accelerator stage, (iii) the target chamber with the sample holder and the detector electronics. The energy of the incident positrons can be varied from 30 eV up to 50 keV. Furthermore source geometries, pre-acceleration, main acceleration sections and various magnetic induction profiles have been considered, such as (i) rectangular, conical and bent Wehnelt electrodes, (iii) pre-accelerator voltage shared over several electrodes, (iii) weak, strong, constant and z-dependent B-profiles, (iv) geometric options in the main accelerator region, (v) purely electrostatic and combined electric/magnetic fields. The beam is mainly designed for defect profile studies in ultra high vacuum conditions.

Opis:
In the paper changes of neutron reflectivity of big (120×70×10 mm$\text{}^{3}$) Cu single crystalline monochromators and CoFe (8%at.) single crystalline, polarising monochromators after cold hammering of the starting plates, are described. An almost three times higher number of reflected neutrons (total reflectivity) and about 20% higher intensity in peak maximum were observed, for Cu plates (measured in reflection from (220) plane)), while the mosaic's spread was about 2 times higher than the one measured for a non-treated plate. In the case of CoFe, 3 mm thick plates, a two times higher number of reflected neutrons and almost 60% higher intensity in peak maximum were observed (measured in transmission - from (200) plane) after hammering, while the mosaic's spread increase was rather small (about 15%).

Opis:
Wear in orthopedic prosthesis has been the main limiting factor of total joint replacement's service life. Wear analysis of total joint replacements is essential for determining failure mechanism, prediction of wear and longevity of implants. So it would be possible to improve design, material and manufacturing quality and service life of these devices. Radiographic, gravimetric, volumetric and optical techniques are current methods for measuring of wear in retrieved implants. Gravimetric method is the standardized method for quantifying wear volumes of total joint prosthesis. Although this method is effective for determining experimental wear volume in simulated conditions, it is not suitable for assessing the clinically retrieved prosthesis for which there is no pre-wear data available. Each of the wear measuring methods has advantages and limitations. Researches have been going on for developing effective methods. In this paper the techniques that are currently used for evaluating wear of orthopedic prosthesis like gravimetry, coordinate measuring machine, micro computed tomography, and digital photogrammetry are explained. The literature works and new trends in metrological assessment of wear are reviewed.

Opis:
The paper presents the concepts of model construction on transmission delays in systems with wireless interfaces using random series of function. It is a new method of modelling that allows us to use probabilistic description of time required to realise tasks in various devices. It also allows us to use time domain delta function series in order to describe the time of transmission of data between transmitter and receiver. In description of delays probability density function is applied. The model also takes into account existence of intermediary network devices that play a significant role in overall budget of delay.

Opis:
The aim of this study was the application of tomographic techniques (focused ion beam-scanning electron microscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) to qualitative and quantitative characterization of structural elements in T/P92 creep resistant 9% Cr steel, Allvac 718Plus Ni-based superalloy and W-based alloy - multiphase materials for environmentally friendly power plants exposed to extreme operational conditions. The study showed that tomography techniques permit to obtain complementary information about microstructural features (precipitates size, shape and their spatial distribution) in the reconstructed volume with comparison to conventional particle analysis methods, e.g. quantitative transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy metallography.
