Opis:
The dynamical behavior of the Morse oscillator is investigated primarily by means of the Lyapunov exponent and bifurcation diagrams. Then, the problem of controlling chaos for this oscillator is studied using a new method introduced by Behnia and Akhshani, which is based on the construction of slave-master feedback. In the control model based on slave-master feedback, the oscillator as the slave system is coupled with a dynamical system as the master, so its implementation becomes quite simple and similar statements can be made for the high dimensional cases. The validity of this method is verified by numerical simulations. The obtained results show the effectiveness of the proposed control model.

Opis:
The simple 3D-chaotic dynamics of an autonomous oscillator circuit was studied by measuring its responsible in the form of phase-portrait, power spectrum and chaotic time series. The new realization combines attractive features of the current feedback op-amp operating in both voltage and current modes to construct the active linear negative conductance. The component count is reduced and the chaotic spectrum is extended to higher frequencies. In addition, a buffered and isolated voltage output directly representing a state variable is made available. The circuit consists of just three linear elements (two capacitors and one inductor), one linear negative conductance and two ideal diodes. The power spectra are presented to confirm the strong chaotic nature of the oscillations of the circuit. The performance of the circuit is investigated by means of experimental simulation and numerical confirmation of the appropriate differential equations. The features of the obtained results are respected for various engineering systems such as chaos communication systems with robustness against various interferences.

We postulate a generalization of well-known logistic map to open the possibility of optimization the modelling process of the population evolution. For proposed generalized equation we illustrate the character of the transition from regularity to chaos for the whole spectrum of model parameters. As an example we consider specific cases for both periodic and chaotic regime. We focus on the character of the corresponding bifurcation sequence and on the quantitative nature of the resulting attractor as well as its universal attribute (Feigenbaum constant).

We study the influence of membrane noise on the fluctuations of membrane voltage in the Hodgkin-Huxley neuronal system for the giant axon of squids. We find that the resting potentials of membrane patches in the absence of any external stimulus, exhibit apparent rhythmic fluctuation behaviors. The intrinsic fluctuation frequencies of membrane voltage, due to channel noise, thermal noise, or both, roughly share the same frequency ranges, despite that the fluctuations arisen from the former noise are overwhelmingly larger in amplitude than that from the latter. We also show that the rhythmic fluctuations can help enhance the encoding of weak signals within the rhythmic frequencies ranges and thus contribute positively to the information processing in the nervous system.

In this paper, Hamiltonian approach is extended to investigate coupled nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom oscillatory systems. At the beginning of the study, basic principles of Hamiltonian approach are provided for multiple coupled oscillators. In the next section, the amplitude-frequency relation for the two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear mechanical systems is obtained via Hamiltonian approach. The natural frequency expression is compared to show the agreement between the present and published results. Additionally, the approximate and numerical periodic solutions are plotted.

Dynamics of a neural network in the form of a linear chain of artificial neurons S$\text{}_{i}$∈(-1,1) influenced by an external sinusoidal stimulation is investigated as a function of the range k of synaptic connections with random values. Time evolution of the network is periodic for small k, however, clusters of neurons oscillating with a triple period of external stimulation, with quasiperiodic or with chaotic time evolution may occur. For increasing k the number and width of the chaotic clusters increase and for k >4 the chaotic motion occurs in the whole network. A route to chaos in the considered system is discussed.

It is demonstrated numerically that nonlinear localized excitations in the form of dissipative discrete breathers can be induced spontaneously through the mechanism of modulational instability in nonlinear magnetic metamaterials comprised of binary arrays of split-ring resonators. Specifically, a variety of high amplitude dissipative breathers can be produced by frequency chirping of the driving field, which concentrate a large portion of the total energy of the metamaterial within only a few lattice sites.

The Belief Propagation algorithm is a popular technique of solving inference problems for different graph-like structures. We present a discussion of the dynamics of that algorithm for the Ising model on the square lattice. Our main goal was to describe limit fixed points for that algorithm, which are strictly connected with the marginal probabilities and stationary points of the Bethe Free Energy. Analytical considerations provide an exact analysis of a class of symmetrical points while numerical simulations confirm that for small lattices there are no non-symmetrical points. Notwithstanding the prevalent use of the Belief Propagation as an inference tool we present a sociophysical interpretation of its dynamics. In that case our considerations may be viewed as an investigation of the possible fixed points of the social dynamics.

We analyze the behavior of quantum dynamical entropies production from sequences of quantum approximants approaching their (chaotic) classical limit. The model of the quantized hyperbolic automorphisms of the 2-torus is examined in detail and a semi-classical analysis is performed on it using coherent states, fulfilling an appropriate dynamical localization property. Correspondence between quantum dynamical entropies and the Kolmogorov-Sinai invariant is found only over timescales that are logarithmic in the quantization parameter.

Opis:
The catastrophe theory and deterministic chaos constitute the basic elements of economic complexity. Elementary catastrophes were the first remarkable form of nonlinear, topological complexity that were thoroughly studied in economics. Another type of catastrophe is the complexity catastrophe, namely an increase in the complexity of a system beyond a certain threshold which marks the beginning of a decrease in a system's adaptive capacity. As far as the ability to survive is concerned, complex adaptive systems should function within the range of optimal complexity which is neither too low or too high. Deterministic chaos and other types of complexity follow from the catastrophe theory. In general, chaos is seemingly random behavior of a deterministic system which stems from its high sensitivity to the initial condition. The theory of nonlinear dynamical systems, which unites various manifestations of complexity into one integrated system, runs contrary to the assumption that markets and economies spontaneously strive for a state of equilibrium. The opposite applies: their complexity seems to grow due to the influence of classical economic laws.

Within the last decade, real estate prices in Poland have changed significantly. We believe that these prices inevitably reflect the dynamics of the real estate market, and therefore they can be used to track its evolution path. To study whether and how the prices (regarded as a state variable) change over time depending on such control variables as gross domestic product and central bank interest rates, the theory of discontinuous change (also known as the catastrophe theory) was used. Catastrophic model assumes that small price fluctuations are associated with stable, long-term development of the market, whereas rapid changes are always due to short-term instabilities. In such a picture, the system evolution path draws a smooth curve within the stability area passing continuously between neighboring equilibrium states, and it rarely enters into the instability area to jump over the potential barrier to another equilibrium state.

The aim of this paper is to present a new simple indicator of chaos derived from the dynamics of the motion. For this purpose statistical methods are used. A function describing the motion of the analyzed system (in the example under consideration, the time dependence of the angle of a damped driven pendulum, ω(t)) is recorded in time intervals t∊〈 $T_{s}$, $T_{f_{k}}$〉, k = 1, 2,...K, with $T_{f_{k}}$ > $T_{f_{k-1}}$. Each of the recorded functions is considered as a statistical distribution. The asymmetry coefficients of the set of distributions form a series and their behavior in periodic and chaotic regions is compared. It is shown that the behavior of this series in the chaotic and in the periodic regimes is entirely different. The changes of the asymmetry coefficients for the periodic cases are very regular and for the chaotic ones - random. In periodic cases, the coefficients converge to zero when the length of the distribution increases.
