Drawbeads are often used in the sheet metal forming processes to provide a better control of the material flow into the die cavity. The drawbead restraint force (DBRF) and the exit thickness are two important sheet drawing characteristics to be determined for the selection and installation of the drawbead elements. This study presents the effects of drawbead geometry and sheet material on drawbead restraining force and thinning. Mathematical correlation between the drawbead geometry, sheet material and drawing characteristics was investigated by using Response Surface Methodology (RSM), which is a global approximation method ideally suited for solving highly nonlinear optimization problems. The proposed response surface model for DBRF and thinning showed a good correlation with the experimental data available in the literature. RSM could be considered as an alternative and practical technique to evaluate the sheet drawing characteristics. The method can also be applied to other sheet metal forming issue.

Opis:
In this paper the problem of cycles existence in capital markets is addressed. A spectral analysis algorithm, which reduces signal-to-noise ratio, is proposed to derive cycle periodograms for the yield function of DJIA, WIG 20, and NIKKEI 225 indices. Peaks of the the periodograms provide premises to postulate the existence of some possible cycles. The 3.5 year periodicity in all 3 indices, which can be related to the Kitchin cycle is found to be the most distinctive one.

Opis:
The application of the stochastic genetic algorithm in tandem with the deterministic Powell method to automated extraction of the magnetic parameters from powder EPR spectra was described. The efficiency and robustness of such hybrid approach were investigated as a function of the uncertainty range of the parameters, using simulated data sets. The discussed results demonstrate superior performance of the hybrid genetic algorithm in fitting of complex spectra in comparison to the common Monte Carlo method joint with the Powell refinement.

Opis:
A laser beam is used to heat a portion of liquid closed in a vessel from the top of it to avoid convection. The temperature is measured at the bottom of the vessel by a laser waveguide sensor. The heating and measuring methods allow using a small amount of liquid of the order of a milliliter fraction. The heat flow through the liquid as well as the surrounding vessel and space is modeled by the finite-element method to calculate the temperature at the bottom vs. time. Thus obtained dependence is used then as a fitting function to get the liquid thermal conductivity among some other fitting parameters.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of simulation studies of selected neural network structures used for non-linear function approximation based on a limited accuracy data. There was performed the analysis of the interdependence of the network structure and the size of the set of learning patterns. The approximation inaccuracy was expressed by the uncertainty interval width. The approximation properties of the neural method were compared with those of the piece-wise linear and polynomial: "cubic" and "spline" methods.
