In his last book, Piotr Stanisław Mazur deals with the problems of classical metaphysics, trying to update, extend and authenticate it, especially in relation to philosophical anthropology, which would be built on its foundations. This interest in metaphysics as knowledge of the totality of reality examined in the aspect of an existing being has several reasons. The most important of these include the contemporary critique of classical metaphysics and the more and more frequently raised questions about how to understand the reality of existence. In his latest book, Mazur attempts to defend Thomistic metaphysics by pointing to its new, cognitive possibilities related to the foundations of anthropology. It formulates a number of questions about human existence, and more specifically what is the specificity of human existence and what characterizes it.

Interesującym zjawiskiem w architekturze sakralnej drugiej połowy XX wieku są kościoły realizowane od lat 60. do 90., zaprojektowane przez krakowskiego architekta Antoniego Mazura. Na szczególną uwagę zasługują one z tego względu, że reprezentują określony, rozpoznawalny typ świątyni o prostej, surowej bryle, jednakże z odczuwalnymi nawiązaniami do tradycji. Wydaje się, że główną inspiracją był gotyk, z którego architekt zaczerpnął dwie najistotniejsze jego cechy – strzelistość i ekspresyjne płaszczyzny stromych dachów oraz rytm wysmukłych okien i dynamicznych, wertykalnych układów ścian. Z tego powodu kościoły projektu Antoniego Mazura swoją formą znakomicie wpisują się w otoczenie jako czytelna dominanta, niosą jasny przekaz pełnionej funkcji oraz stanowią ważny element kształtowania się architektury tego okresu. Tym samym są znaczącym i unikalnym elementem dziedzictwa architektury drugiej połowy XX wieku, wymagającym odpowiedniej ochrony konserwatorskiej.
Churches built in Kraków between the 1960s and 1990s according to designs of Antoni Mazur, an architect from Kraków, represent an interesting development in sacral architecture in the second half of the twentieth century. They are particularly noteworthy on account of their specific, recognizable character comprising a church building with a simple, austere body, yet with an evident link to tradition. The main inspiration appears to have been the Gothic style, with its two most important features that seem to have inspired the architect – soaring slopes and steep roofs full of expression, combined with the rhythm of slender windows and dynamic, vertical wall arrangements. This is why Antoni Mazur’s churches fit perfectly into their surroundings and form a well-defined dominating feature that clearly communicates their function. They constitute an important element in the architectural development of the period. As a consequence, they have become a significant and unique part of the architectural heritage of the second half of the 20th century, and as such, deserve appropriate protection and conservation.

Rok 1906 był dla Płocka szczególnie ważny. W tym roku mariawici wypowiedzieli posłuszeństwo biskupom i rozpoczęli organizację nowego wyznania. W tym samym czasie, w odpowiedzi na to wydarzenie, powstał tygodnik religijno-społeczny „Mazur”. Jednym z jego zadań było krytykowanie mariawitów i wykazywanie błędów w ich naukach. W latach 1906-1915 ukazało się na łamach „Mazura” wiele artykułów podejmujących ten temat. Redakcja nie zawsze podawała sprawdzone informacje. Często opierano się na plotkach oraz insynuacjach. Szczególną niechęcią darzono założycielkę schizmy Marię Franciszkę Kozłowską. Często konfrontowano ze sobą dwie postacie: dobrego katolika i złego mariawitę. Mimo początkowych sukcesów mariawityzm nie zagroził pozycji Kościoła katolickiego w Królestwie Polskim. W związku z coraz słabszą pozycją sekty z roku na rok malała ilość artykułów na jej temat. Od połowy roku 1914 większość miejsca w tygodniku poświęcono sprawom wojny światowej.
1906 was especially important for Płock. It was when the Mariavites renounced allegiance to bishops and started their own denomination. At the same time, in response to this event, a religious-social weekly magazine, “Mazur”, was founded. One of its tasks was to criticize the Mariavites and highlight errors in their teachings. In the period of 1906 – 1915, a number of articles devoted to this subject were published in “Mazur”. Information published by the editorial team was not always verified. It was often based on gossip and insinuation. Particular aversion was felt towards Maria Franciszka Kozłowska, the founder of the schism. Two figures: of the good Catholic and the evil Mariavite, were often confronted. Despite some initial successes, the Mariavite denomination did not threaten the position of the Catholic Church in the Kingdom of Poland. As a result of weaker and weaker position of the sect, the number of articles on it decreased year by year. From the second half of 1914 the majority of space in the magazine was devoted to issues related to the world war.

Artykuł jest poświęcony publikacjom bp. Jerzego Mazura, które ukazały się w miesięczniku „Martyria” w latach 2003-2023. Zawiera on pełny wykaz tekstów biskupa, ich uporządkowanie wedle rodzajów tekstów oraz analizę zgromadzonego materiału. Informuje także o stopniu sprawowania władzy biskupiej poprzez działalność pisarską i publikacyjną. Na skutek uporządkowania materiałów, których łącznie jest 157, wyróżniono i omówiono dziewięć rodzajów tekstów: homilie, listy, słowo pasterskie, słowo podczas Mszy, wywiady, komunikaty i informacje, dekrety, zaproszenia i zapowiedzi wydarzeń oraz życzenia.
The article is devoted to the publications of Bishop Jerzy Mazur, which were published in the monthly „Martyria” in 2003-2023. It contains a full list of the bishop’s texts, their arrangement according to text types and an analysis of the collected material. It also informs about the degree of Episcopal authority exercised through writing and publishing activities. As a result of organizing the materials, which number 157 in total, nine types of texts were distinguished and discussed: homilies, letters, pastoral word, word during the Mass, interviews, messages and information, decrees, invitations and announcements of events, and wishes.

The album of works by Zbigniew Szczepanek, depicting 41 castles in northern Poland, contains more than 200 water colours, gouaches, pastels and drawings executed in 1999-2003. The warm hues, reader-friendly poetic and excellent technical level of the publication render it particularly attractive. The elegant album, in hard cover and a decorative box, includes an Englishand German-language translation and a map of northern Poland with likenesses of the portrayed castles. The album ends with notes concerning the illustrations (also translated), offering data about the technique, material, and size of the compositions, as well as describing the presented fragment of a given castle and, in the case of reconstruction, the foundation for its realisation. This indubitably interesting and well-composed album is the first in a planned three-volume series about the castles of Poland. The publishers – Tower Press – ensured a meticulous edition.

In recent years, individual palace – and manorialpark premises in Warmia and Mazuria, until recently degraded, are being revalorised and adapted for hotels and boarding houses. These undertakings are associated with various conservation problems. Three documentations of the revalorisation of historical greenery, conceived during the 1990s, illustrate the issues in question. Since the fourteenth century the landed estate and village of Galina have been the seat of the Eulenburg family. The estate is comprised of an oft-rebuilt palatial complex, a farm, and a landscape park located in a river meander and merging with the local forest. The woodland-park premise possesses an expanded water configuration, and encompasses an irregular network of paths and tracks, meadows and pastures, balks, and lanes, all of which comprise an intentionally shaped agricultural landscape. After 1945 Galina was divided between several users. During the 1990s, the by then devastated estate was purchased by a private investor. The original revalorisation and adaptation programme assumed the establishment of a luxurious boarding house in the palace, and a boarding house together with sports, gastronomical and technical-utility facilities in the farm. The revalorisation project relating to the park foresaw the recreation of landscape interiors and a water configuration decisive for the park’s character. In 2001 the revalorisation of the park was recognised by the Minister of Culture (a special award). The manorial-park complex in Wajsznory originated in the eighteenth-nineteenth century. After 1945 the estate was assigned to numerous users, and subjected to considerable unfavourable transformation. In 2002 it was taken over by an investor. Its components include a nineteenth – twentieth-century manor house, a farm, and a park composed of a decorative part, an orchard, and a vegetable garden. Today, the whole premise is intended for residential-leisure purposes and a stock farm; additionally, it encompasses part of a wasteland. Within the available six-hectares the new owners distinguished stately, leisure, sports and forest areas. The revalorisation, conducted for the past two years, has already rendered the park premise much more attractive than its historical form. Stoczek Klasztorny is a Marian sanctuary associated with the cult of Our Lady of Peace. The church and the monastic buildings come from the seventeenth century, and the garden has preserved a row of linden and maple trees, a hornbeam avenue, and the remnants of a thuya lane along the main axis of the garden. During the post-war period, the garden interior lost its former utilitarian-decorative character; current efforts aim at a restoration of the premise’s former features. In 2001 the monastery was awarded a silver medal in a competition held by the Minister of Culture. The above mentioned parks have become important highlights on the tourist map of the region as well as the site of meetings held by specialists dealing with landscape architecture and the education of academic students and secondary school pupils.

The title question of the paper has its empirical origin in the form of an individual’s existential experience arising from the personal use of a computer, which we attempt to describe in the first section. The rest of the entire paper can be understood as a philosophical essay answering the question posed. First the connection between the main problem of the article and its “premonition” by mankind, which was expressed in the form of ancient myths and legends, is briefly suggested. After shortly discussing the problems that early considerations of AI focused on, i.e. whether machines can think at all, we move on to reformulate our title question, about the possibility of outsmarting AI. This outsmarting will be understood by us in a rather limited way as to prevent a machine from completing its implemented task. To achieve this objective, after softly clarifying the basic terms, an analogy is built between the “outsmarting” of a machine by a human (the target domain) and the playing of a mathematical game between two players (the base domain), where this outsmarting is assigned a “winning strategy” in the certain game. This mathematical model is formed by games similar to Banach-Mazur games. The strict theorems of such games are then proved and applied to the target of the analogy. We then draw conclusions and look for counter-examples to our findings. The answer to the title question posed is negative, and it is not clear how far it should be taken seriously.

W tekście zawarto ważkie rozważania teoretyczne o wyznacznikach reportażu i feature, a także poetyce noweli jako tertium comparationis. Przywołano przykłady praktycznych realizacji tych form w tekstach współczesnych polskich twórców (Anny Strońskiej, Jagienki Wilczak, Magdaleny Mazur). Artykuł zamyka podkreślenie najistotniejszych różnic pomiędzy reportażem a feature.
This article attempts to provide a comparison between reportage (the literary and journalistic writing form) and 'feature' (a form moulded in the USA before the Second World War). This work covers the most important theoretical ascertainments about the determinants of reportage and feature, as well as the short story as a tertium comparationis. Practical examples of both forms are given from the output of contemporary Polish writers (Anna Strońska, Jagienka Wilczak, Magdalena Mazur. The article voncludes with the essential differences between these forms.

The author of the article focuses on the theological and ecclesial view of missions ad gentes and the activities of Bishop Jerzy Mazur SVD in the Polish Episcopal Commission for Missions in 2011-2021. His commitment and multitude of pastoral initiatives contributed to renewing the missionary zeal of the Church in Poland. It also presents the vision of mission represented by Bishop Mazur, who promoted the conciliar view on understanding the issues of mission. Discusses the role of the laity in the missionary work of the Church, the integration of missionary environments, the media and writing achievements of Jerzy Mazur, and the intellectual, spiritual and religious formation of people involved in missions.
