    The relevance of the study lies in the fact that at the present stage of development of the modern young generation and higher art education changes are taking place. Based on the acquired and preserved folk traditions in the field of science and artistic activity in the western regions of Ukraine and not only. The interest and encouragement of the younger generation to traditional folk art is one of the main tasks that arise in the process of studying in art institutions and institutions of Ukraine as a whole.
    Aктуальність дослідження полягає в тому, що на сучасному етапі розвитку сучасного молодого покоління та вищої мистецької освіти відбуваються зміни, базуючись на надбаних та збережених народних традицій у сфері науки та мистецької діяльності в західних областей України і не тільки. Зацікавлення та заохочення молодого покоління до традиційного народного мистецтва є одним із основних завдань, які виникають в процесі навчання в мистецьких закладах та закладах України в цілому.

    У статті представлено ретроспективний огляд розвитку паперових хатніх оздоб – витинанок, що посідають яскраве місце в народному мистецтві України від кінця ХІХ і до сьогодні. Різноманітні прикраси з паперу раніше селяни виготовляли для власного житла переважно перед великими святами, орнаментуючи традиційними композиціями покуть, піч, вікна, стіни, стелю, полиці тощо. Вітчизняні науковці хатній паперовий декор почали вивчати від кінця ХІХ і продовжують дослідження у наші дні. У всі часи активізація і спад розвитку витинанок залежали від історичних умов, суспільних тенденцій, а також діяльності окремих майстрів і дослідників. В останні десятиліття в художньому просторі України завдяки творчості професійних художників витинанки набули рівнозначного поцінування з творами інших видів образотворчого мистецтва. Нині українські витинанки відомі не лише серед співвітчизників, їх знають і цінують у багатьох країнах Європи і світу.
    A retrospective review of the development of paper home decorations – paper cuttings – is submitted in the article. They have been taking a bright place in folk art of Ukraine from the late 19th century till nowadays. Earlier the peasants have made various decorations out of paper for own homes mainly before great holidays, ornamenting icon corner, stove, windows, walls, ceiling, shelves, etc. with traditional compositions. Ukrainian scholars started studying home paper decor in the late 19th century. They continue research is continued nowadays. The activation and decline of the paper cuttings development have depended on historical conditions, social trends, and also the activities of separate craftsmen and researchers during all periods. The paper cuttings have acquired an equal appreciation with the articles of other kinds of the Visual Arts in the artistic space of Ukraine during the last decades owing to the works of professional artists. At present Ukrainian paper cuttings are well-known not only among the compatriots but they are popular and estimated worldwide.

    У вивченні народного мистецтва України важливе значення мають розвідки про мистецькі традиції окремих осередків. У статті розглянуто традиційні мотиви й композиції народних витинанок, створених майстрами села Петриківка Дніпропетровської області – давнього осередку з декоративного розпису й витинанки. Проаналізовано паперові твори Василя Вовка, Поліни Глущенко, Ганни Гречанової, Антоніни Авдієнко, Наталі Авдєєнко та інших майстрів. Розглянуті авторські твори демонструють поєднання глибинних традицій народного мистецтва із особистісними естетичними смаками кожного митця, що зумовлює щораз відмінну неповторну стилістику. Важливо, що власний досвід вони передавали й продовжують передавати наступним поколінням.
    While studying the Ukrainian folk art, it is important to explore artistic traditions of individual centres. The article considers traditional motifs and compositions of folk paper cutting art pieces, common in the village of Petrykivka (Dnipropetrovsk Region), an ancient core of paper cutting art. Such home paper decorations have become widespread in the centre since the late XIXth to early XXth centuries. Among the well-known masters – fellow villagers who created paper cutting art pieces were Vasyl Vovk, Pelaheya Hlushchenko, Hanna Hrechanova, Antonina Avdieyenko, Nataliya Avdieyenko and other masters. The auctorial paper cutting art pieces under study demonstrates the combination of deep traditions of folk art and personal aesthetic tastes of each of the artists, which determined each time a distinct unique style. It is important that they have been passing on their experience to next generations. It is important that modern masters continue to pass on their experience to next generations.
