Opis:
The present paper aimed at suggesting Polish and German equivalents of legal terms used in the petitions of suits in both languages. First the methods of translating legal terms given in the literature were presented. According to them came the catalogue of the mentioned Polish and German legal terms with the argumentation for the choice of the suggested equivalents both in Polish and German. The assumed principle was, that in the case of two different legal systems, one should, if possible, avoid translating legal terms of the source language with the parallel legal terms of the target language. The discussed legal terms and their equivalents were juxtaposed in a table as a summary.

Artykuł – rozumiany jako pierwsza część analizy i prezentacji tematu – opisuje wielowymiarowość pojęcia tłumaczenia. Przytoczone przykłady wskazują na doniosłą rolę tłumaczy w rozwoju cywilizacji europejskiej oraz na rangę ich pracy. Tłumaczenie zostało zdefiniowane z różnych perspektyw: opisu poetyckiego, relacji tekstu źródłowego do tekstu docelowego, relacji do producenta i odbiorcy tekstu, a także z perspektywy zastosowania w różnych kanałach informacyjnych i stanowi fascynujący obiekt badawczy. Jest bez wątpienia wielowymiarowe i wielofunkcyjne. Poetycki opis procesu tłumaczenia rzuca nowe, interesujące światło na pracę tłumacza i jej przebieg, a metafory nadają mu cech czynności niemal mistycznej.
Der Artikel – verstanden als erster Teil der Analyse und Darstellung des Themas – beschreibt die Mehrdimensionalität des Übersetzungsbegriffs. Die angeführten Beispiele zeigen die bedeutende Rolle der Übersetzer in der Entwicklung der europäischen Zivilisation und die Bedeutung ihrer Arbeit. Die Übersetzung wurde aus verschiedenen Perspektiven definiert: poetische Beschreibung, Bezug des Ausgangstextes zum Zieltext, Bezug zum Produzenten und Empfänger des Textes, sowie aus der Perspektive seiner Verwendung in verschiedenen Informationskanälen und stellt ein faszinierendes Forschungsobjekt dar, das zweifellos multidimensional und multifunktional ist. Die poetische Beschreibung des Übersetzungsprozesses wirft ein neues und interessantes Licht auf die Arbeit des Übersetzers und ihren Verlauf und die Metaphern verleihen ihr die Merkmale der fast mystischen Tätigkeit.

By placing ourselves in the theoretical paradigm which takes into account the sociological dimension of a translation which undermines the myth of an objective translation and a transparent translator, we sought to study the translator’s subjective, ideological, emotional interventions. The analysis of the translator's traces, revealing a conscious manipulation which seeks to produce a persuasive effect or a more or less unconscious interpretation imbued with the translator's own emotions will allow us to show the transformations that the pathemic expressions of the discourse (the emotional charge of the discourse, the ethos or the image that the author projects of himself, etc.) go through as well as the consequences got on the level of the identity construction of the conflict’s protagonists.  
En se plaçant dans le paradigme théorique qui prend en compte la dimension sociologique de la traduction qui met à mal le mythe d’une traduction objective et d’un traducteur transparent, nous avons cherché à étudier les interventions subjective, idéologique, émotionnelle aussi bien conscientes qu’inconscientes de la part du traducteur. L’analyse des traces du traducteur, révélatrices d’une manipulation consciente qui cherche à produire un effet de persuasion ou d’une interprétation plus ou moins inconsciente imprégnée des émotions mêmes du traducteur nous permettront de montrer les transformations que peuvent subir les expressions pathémiques du discours (la charge émotive du discours, l’ethos ou l’image que projette l’auteur de lui-même, etc.), ainsi que les conséquences subies au niveau de la construction identitaire du texte (l’image des protagonistes du conflit).

The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm belong to the best-known literary works of Germany, besides the Luther Bible. They are currently published in 160 languages and have been part of the World Documentary Heritage since June 2005. In Poland, they are known in countless translations, adaptations and retellings, some of which have been greatly modified and adapted for teaching purposes and others are literally based on the original texts. The empirical part of the article refers to an experiment in which 19 subjects were presented with a translation task: to transfer selected passages of Little Red Riding Hood into Polish. In the runup to the study, it was hypothesized that the information about the status of the work as part of the World Document Heritage given to study participants should have an effect on the literal translation. The results of the experiment do not confirm the assumed hypothesis, but clearly show that the translation variants above all have to be seen as a continuation of the individual’s experiences with the fairy tale, which strongly influences that individual’s translation

The aim of the paper is to survey theorizations of intertextuality as an ontological feature of translation, a line of thinking well represented in the East European translation studies as well as to show the purposes this paradigm has served in translational reflection.I investigate the concept(s) and applications thereof, and trace the interrelations between the ideas of various scholars. Intertextuality is shown to have served the following ends: locating translation among other forms of communication, explaining the mode of existence of translation, reclaiming for it the status of a rightful literary activity and defending it from charges of parasitism, probing translations' interactions with other texts, constructing interdisciplinary approaches. Last but not least, intertextuality has recently been integrated into the very model of the translation process.
Der vorliegende Aufsatz bietet einen Überblick über die theoretischen Ansätze der Intertextualität als eines ontologischen Merkmals des Übersetzung und stellt eine Systematik der Gründe dar, aus denen Forscher auf dieses Paradigma zurückgreifen, was in der osteuropäischen Übersetzungswissenschaft recht verbreitet ist. Die Verfasserin bespricht unterschiedliche Betrachtungsweisen des Themas und deren Präsenz im Diskurs, gleichzeitig verweist sie auf Affinitäten in der Argumentation einzelner Forscher. Es wird nachgewiesen, dass die Kategorie der Intertextualität in der Übersetzungswissenschaft zahlreiche Einsatzmöglichkeiten bietet. Dazu gehören: die Verortung des Übersetzens im Vergleich zu anderen Kommunikationsarten, das Definieren der Existenzformen der Übersetzung, die Apologie des Übersetzens als gleichberechtigte literarische Tätigkeit und Widerlegung der Einwände des Epigonalen, das Ausloten der Beziehungen der Übersetzung zu anderen Texten sowie die Konstruktion von interdisziplinären Ansätzen. In den letzten Jahren wurde die Inter-textualität auch zunehmend im Beschreibungsmodell des Translationsprozesses berücksichtigt.
W artykule dokonany został przegląd teoretycznych ujęć intertekstualności jako ontologicznej cechy tłumaczenia oraz przeprowadzona systematyzacja celów, dla jakich badacze odwołują się do tego paradygmatu, a jest to podejście szeroko reprezentowane w przekładoznawstwie wschodnioeuropejskim. Omówione zostały różne ujęcia tego zagadnienia i ich użycie w dyskursie, oraz wskazane powinowactwa myśli poszczególnych badaczy. Kategoria intertekstualności ma w translatologii liczne zastosowania: służy określeniu miejsca przekładu wśród innych typów komunikacji, definiowaniu sposobu istnienia przekładu, apologii tłumaczenia jako pełnoprawnej działalności literackiej i obronie przed zarzutami wtórności, eksplorowaniu związków tłumaczenia z innymi tekstami, konstruowaniu podejść interdyscyplinarnych. W ostatnich latach intertekstualność została także uwzględniona w modelu opisującym proces przekładu.

Niniejszy artykuł stanowi filologiczną analizę zjawisk liminalnych i transformacji w drugim rozdziale powieści Yoko Tawady Etüden im Schnee [Etiudy w śniegu]. Celem zaprezentowanego w tekście badania jest prześledzenie wielowymiarowego uwikłania Etüden im Schnee w intertekstualnej przestrzeni „pomiędzy”, w której konstytuują się nienormatywne możliwości istnienia pomiędzy dominacją świata wewnętrznego i zewnętrznego, jak również ludzkiego i zwierzęcego. W procesie eksploracji tej przestrzeni zostały zastosowane poststrukturalne i postkolonialne metody badawcze.
This article presents a philological analysis of the transformations and liminal phenomena found in the second chapter of Yoko Tawada’s Etüden im Schnee [Études in the Snow]. The purpose of this analysis is to examine the multidimensional implications of Etüden im Schnee in an intertextual in-between space, which makes possible the constitution of non-normative possibilities of existence between the inner and the outer, and the human and the animal, worlds. The analysis is based on poststructural and postcolonial research methods.
Der Artikel stellt eine philologische Analyse von Transformationen und liminalen Phänomenen dar, die sich im zweiten Kapitel von Yoko Tawadas Roman Etüden im Schnee bemerkbar machen. Beleuchtet wird die mehrdimensionale Verstrickung des Romans in einem intertextuellen Raum „dazwischen“, in dem sich nicht-normative Möglichkeiten des Daseins jenseits der Dominanz von inneren und äußeren oder menschlichen und tierischen Welten konstituieren. In die Analyse werden poststrukturale und postkoloniale Forschungsmethoden einbezogen.

Das Ziel dieses Beitrags ist die Analyse der Realienbezeichnungen, die in den deutschen Reisekatalogen enthalten sind. Als Grundlage der Untersuchung dienen die deutschen Reisekataloge ,,Chamäleon“ und „Gebeco“. Im Rahmen der Analyse werden Beispiele der Realienbezeichnungen aus den oben genannten Katalogen ausgewählt, dem entsprechenden Typ der Realienbezeichnung zugeordnet und anschließend besprochen. Der Schwerpunkt dieses Beitrags liegt ebenfalls auf den möglichen Wiedergabeverfahren der ausgewählten Realienbezeichnungen, die bei ihrer Übersetzung ins Polnische Translationsprobleme bereiten. Der Beitrag wird mit Schlussfolgerungen abgeschlossen, in denen darauf hingewiesen wird, wie wichtig für die korrekte Wiedergabe der Realienbezeichnungen das Verständnis des kulturellen Hintergrunds sowohl für die Ausgangs- als auch für die Zielsprache ist. In den Urlaubsangeboten, die in den Reisekatalogen enthalten sind, kommen landes- und kulturspezifische Bezeichnungen zu Orten in der ganzen Welt vor, die den Reiselustigen in großer Zahl zur Verfügung stehen. Man kann also feststellen, dass verschiedene Länder und Kulturen ständig neue kulturspezifische Wörter bzw. Ausdrücke mit sich bringen. Darum ist beim Lesen von Urlaubsangeboten ein bestimmtes Weltwissen erforderlich. Obwohl die Reiseinteressierten keine genauen Bedeutungen der kulturspezifischen Wörter kennen müssen, sollten sie eine allgemeine Vorstellung von den landestypischen fremden Begriffen haben. Darüber hinaus sind zumindest die Grundkenntnisse der englischen Sprache erforderlich, da in Reisekatalogen viele Anglizismen auftreten. Die Urlaubsangebote enthalten aber auch kurze englische Slogans, die meistens weder ins Deutsche noch in eine andere Sprache übersetzt werden. Manche Wörter, die weithin bekannt sind, wie z. B. pizza oder safari, bedürfen keiner Übersetzung oder zusätzlicher Explikation. Es gibt jedoch einige Ausdrücke, die von den meisten Lesern nicht verstanden werden, weil sie weniger gebräuchlich sind oder sehr spezifische, komplexe Bedeutungen verbergen. Daher werden in diesem Beitrag für solche Realien die bestmöglichen Übersetzungslösungen ins Polnische vorgeschlagen.
The aim of this paper is to analyse culture-bound units that appear in German travel catalogues. The following German travel catalogues constitute the research material: “Chamäleon” and “Gebeco”. Selected examples of the culture-specific expressions from the above-mentioned catalogues are subjected to the analysis, assigned to the corresponding type and subsequently discussed. The paper focuses also on the methods of rendering techniques of the selected culture-bound units, which encounter translations problems while being translated into Polish. The paper’s conclusions point out the importance of cultural background understanding for both the source and the target language, in order to accurately render the culture-specific items. Country- and culture-specific foreign terms appearing in the travel offers refer to the places all over the world and are available in great numbers for people interested in excursions. It can thus be noticed that different countries and cultures constantly bring with them new culture-specific words or expressions. Hence, a certain world knowledge is required while reading holiday offers. Even though readers interested in travels do not need to know the exact meanings of the culture-specific expressions, they should have a general idea of country-specific foreign terms. Besides, at least a basic knowledge of the English language is indispensable, because the travel catalogues contain a plethora of Anglicisms. Tourist offers also contain short slogans in English, which are usually translated neither into German nor into the other language. Some words that are commonly used, such as pizza or safari, do not require translation or additional explication. However, there are some expressions that are not comprehensible for most of the readers because of the fact that they are less common or conceal very specific, complex meanings. Therefore, this paper aims to present the best potential translation solutions for such culture-specific expressions into Polish.

The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the most common translational problems which occur during the production of audio description (AD), which is one of the modes of audiovisual translation (AVT). The article analyses selected translational problems encountered while scrutinizing the film entitled Django Unchained (2012) by Quentin Tarantino. The analysis is chiefly focused on issues which occur most frequently in the film and seem to be most difficult to solve by audio describers, both in English and in Polish versions of the film. The study compares notions of character description, facial expressions and gestures; these phenomena constitute in fact the core of audio description and particular attention should be paid to accurate rendering of them into the target language. Nonetheless, the article suggests possible strategies of dealing with the above-mentioned obstacles. Proceeding from these considerations, the study proposes conclusions concerning the type of audio description that would probably be the most successful and beneficent to the target audience.
Das Hauptziel des Beitrags ist es, die häufigsten Übersetzungsprobleme zu erörtern, die bei der Produktion einer Art der audiovisuellen Übersetzung (AVT): der Audiodeskription (AD) auftreten. Als Fallbeispiel gilt hier der Film Django Unchained (2012) von Quentin Tarantino. Analysiert werden vor allem Übersetzungsprobleme, die im Film häufig vorkommen und für Audiodeskriptoren am schwierigsten zu lösen sind, sowohl in der englischen als auch in der polnischen Version des Films: Charakterbeschreibung, Mimik und Gestik. Diese Phänomene bilden den Kern der Audiodeskription, deswegen sollte es besonders darauf geachtet werden, dass sie in der Zielsprache korrekt wiedergegeben werden. Es werden im Beitrag mögliche Strategien ihrer Wiedergabe vorgeschlagen, die für das Zielpublikum am erfolgreichsten und am nützlichsten zu sein scheinen.
Głównym celem artykułu jest omówienie najczęstszych problemów translatorskich występujących podczas tworzenia audiodeskrypcji (AD), która jest jednym z rodzajów tłumaczenia audiowizualnego (AVT). W artykule przeanalizowano wybrane problemy translatorskie, które pojawiły się podczas analizy filmu Django Unchained (2012) Quentina Tarantino. Analizie poddano przede wszystkim zagadnienia, które często pojawiają się w filmie i wydają się najtrudniejsze do rozwiązania przez audiodeskryptorów, zarówno w angielskiej, jak i w polskiej wersji językowej filmu - opis postaci, mimiki i gestów. Zjawiska te stanowią w istocie rdzeń audiodeskrypcji i dlatego powinny zostać adekwatnie oddanie w języku docelowym. W artykule zaproponowano możliwe strategie radzenia sobie z wyżej wymienionymi problemami translatorskimi. Na podstawie tych rozważań sformułowano wnioski dotyczące takiej audiodeskrypcji, która byłaby prawdopodobnie najbardziej skuteczna i korzystna dla odbiorców docelowych.

Die Korpuslinguistik und die logisch-positivistische Auffassung von der Bedeutung haben dazu geführt, dass die Frage nach dem Sinn und dessen Konstitution von der klassischen Linguistik geflissentlich übergangen werden. Da die Übersetzung aber Texte und somit auch Diskurse zum Gegenstand hat, wird die Sinnkonstitution zur zentralen Problematik der übersetzerischen Tätigkeit. Der vorliegende Artikel befasst sich mit dem diskursiven Charakter der Übersetzung und mit dem Paradigmenwechsel, der für den Übergang von der Transcodierung zur Dynamik der Sprache und der Konstitution von Sinn in praxeologischen Kontexten erforderlich ist. Der Zusammenhang zwischen dem Mechanismus der Sinnkonstitution und dem durch die Regeln der Grammatik gezogenen Grenzen einer Sprache wird anhand der Begriffe der Relevanz und des Gebrauchs erläutert.
Due to corpus linguistics and the logical positivists’ theory of meaning classical linguistics has deliberately ignored the question about underlying sense and its constitution. Given the fact that translation is about texts and thus discourses, the constitution of meaning is the key challenge of translation. This article deals with the discursive nature of translation and the resulting paradigm shift after the transition from transcoding to the concept of the dynamics of language and the constitution of meaning in praxeological contexts. The correlation between the process of discerning meaning and the restrictions of a language subject to the rules of grammar is explained by applying the concepts of relevance and use.

Code-switching or code-mixing in spoken language is quite common. Can code-mixing also occur in a written form of a language, such as in a newspaper article, in a short story, or in a translation? This paper examines the use of code-mixing in the translation of a German short story into Marathi. Marathi is an Indo-European language that is recognized as one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. The article analyses whether code-mixing is used in the Marathi translation of the German short story when no other equivalents are available in the target language i.e., in Marathi or is it more of a thoughtful choice even if equivalents exist in the target language. With relevant examples, this empirical analysis further investigates the role of code-mixing in the Marathi translation of the German short story, “Der hellgraue Frühjahrsmantel” written by Wolfgang Hildesheimer (1962). The title of the translated text reads “राखाडी स्प्रिंगजाकीट” (rākhādī springjākīṭ, 2017). With this analysis, the article presents some remarkable characteristics of both the Indian language Marathi, its linguistic context and culture. The analysis can stimulate interest in Marathi and could also be useful in further research in the areas of code mixing or code switching in translation.
Code-Switching oder Code-Mixing beim Sprechen ist weit verbreitet. Kann aber Code-Mixing auch in einer schriftlichen Form, wie in einem Zeitungsartikel, in einer Kurzgeschichte oder in einer Übersetzung vorkommen? In diesem Beitrag wird der Gebrauch von Code-Mixing in der Übersetzung einer deutschen Kurzgeschichte ins Marathi untersucht. Marathi ist eine indoeuropäische Sprache, die sich als eine der 22 offiziellen Sprachen Indiens ausmacht. Der Beitrag analysiert, ob Code-Mixing in der Marathi-Übersetzung einer deutschen Kurzgeschichte eingesetzt wird, wenn keine anderen Äquivalente in der Zielsprache, d. h. im Marathi verfügbar sind, oder ob es eher eine durchdachte Auswahl ist, selbst wenn Äquivalente in der Zielsprache existieren. Des Weiteren wird es untersucht und mit treffenden Beispielen1 belegt, welche Rolle Code-Mixing in der vorliegenden Übersetzung der deutschen Kurzgeschichte spielt. Der Beitrag analysiert die aus dem Deutschen ins Marathi übersetzte Kurzgeschichte „Der hellgraue Frühjahrsmantel“ von Wolfgang Hildesheimer (1962) unter dem Titel „rākhādī springjākīṭ“ (2017). Dieser Beitrag soll einige bemerkenswerte Charakteristika sowohl der indischen Sprache Marathi als auch deren Sprachraums und Kultur zeigen. Des Weiteren kann diese Untersuchung nicht nur das Interesse an Marathi erwecken, sondern auch bei weiterer Forschung in den Bereichen Code-Mixing oder Code-Switching bei der Übersetzung behilflich sein.

Im Beitrag werden exemplarisch zwei Möglichkeiten aufgezeigt, einen historiolektal stilisierten literarischen Text in eine Fremdsprache zu übertragen. Das Beispielmaterial bilden zwei polnische Romane, in denen die intendierte Archaisierung grundverschiedene Funktionen erfüllt und von deutschen Übersetzern jeweils unterschiedlich behandelt wird: der klassische historische Roman Krzyżacy (1897–1900) von Henryk Sienkiewicz in der Übersetzung von Emma und Rudolfine Ettlinger und der Pastiche eines Briefromans Wariacje pocztowe (1972) von Kazimierz Brandys in der Übersetzung von Roswitha Buschmann. Während die Sienkiewicz-Übersetzerinnen dem Sprachgebrauch des ausgehenden 19. Jahrhunderts bzw. dem deutschen „standard archaic usage“ (G. Leech) verpflichtet bleiben, greift Buschmann auf mehrere zielsprachige Historiolekte zurück und imitiert den Stil des deutschen Schelmenromans. In ihrer total archaisierten Übersetzung dominiert die literarische (gattungsbezogene) Stilisierung über der rein sprachlichen.
The paper presents two examples of how a literary text applying archaization as a stylistic device can be translated into a foreign language. The sample material consists of two Polish novels in which the intended archaization fulfils fundamentally different functions and is treated differently by German translators: the classic historical novel Krzyżacy (1897–1900) by Henryk Sienkiewicz in the translation by Emma and Rudolfine Ettlinger, and the pastiche of an epistolary novel Wariacje pocztowe (1972) by Kazimierz Brandys in the translation by Roswitha Buschmann. While the translators of Sienkiewicz remain committed to the language usage of the late 19th century or to German “standard archaic usage” (G. Leech), Buschmann draws on several target-language historical varieties and imitates the style of the German Schelmenroman (picaresque novel). In her totally archaizing translation, the literary (genre-related) stylisation dominates over the purely linguistic.

In this article, we undergo a comparative analysis of emotions in translation, particularly fear, in a Romanian tale rendered into French. The apparent simplicity of children's literature and its translation hides several difficulties as well on the linguistic level, as on the socio-cultural one. Our corpus is composed of a tale of Ion Creangă, a writer known for Romanian children's literature, Capra cu trei iezi [The goat and her three kids], and the collaborative version of M. Stanciu Stoian and Ode de Chateauvieux Lebel (1931) and the version of Mariana Cojan Negulescu (1996). 
Cet article envisage l’analyse comparative des émotions en traduction, en particulier, la peur, dans un conte roumain rendu en français. La simplicité apparente de la littérature de jeunesse et de sa traduction cache plusieurs difficultés autant au niveau linguistique, que socio-culturel. Le corpus d’analyse consiste dans un conte de Ion Creangă, un auteur connu pour la littérature enfantine roumaine, Capra cu trei iezi [La chèvre et les trois biquets], et deux traductions : la version collaborative de M. Stanciu Stoian et Ode de Chateauvieux Lebel (1931) et la version bilingue de Mariana Cojan Negulescu (1996).

Das Ziel des Aufsatzes ist es, ausgewählte Aspekte der Übersetzung deutscher Markennamen ins Chinesische zu präsentieren. Zunächst werden der Begriff und die Funktionen der Marke beschrieben, danach wird die Frage erörtert, ob Markennamen lokal oder global sein sollen. Es werden auch für die Übersetzung von Markennamen relevante Merkmale der chinesischen Sprache und Schrift besprochen. Im analytischen Teil werden sprachliche und graphische Merkmale der chinesischen Markennamen charakterisiert und Methoden der Übersetzung ausländischer Namen ins Chinesische präsentiert. Das sind (i) die phonetische Wiedergabe, (ii) freie Übersetzung ohne Rücksicht auf die Lautung im Original, (iii) gemischte Methode, die sowohl die Lautung als auch die Bedeutung des Originalnamens berücksichtigt. Von den 27 untersuchten Markennamen werden 11 nach Methode (i) wiedergegeben, 8 nach Methode (ii) und 8 nach Methode (iii).
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wybranych aspektów tłumaczenia niemieckich nazw marek na język chiński. Najpierw opisano pojęcie i funkcje marki, a następnie przedyskutowano kwestię, czy nazwy marek powinny mieć charakter lokalny czy globalny. Omówiono również istotne dla tłumaczenia nazw marek cechy języka i pisma chińskiego. W części analitycznej scharakteryzowano cechy językowe i graficzne chińskich nazw marek oraz przedstawiono sposoby tłumaczenia nazw obcych na język chiński. Są to (i) tłumaczenie fonetyczne/ transliteracja, (ii) wolne tłumaczenie bez uwzględniania wymowy oryginalnej, (iii) metoda mieszana, która uwzględnia zarówno wymowę, jak i znaczenie oryginalnej nazwy. Z 27 przebadanych marek 11 przetłumaczono metodą (i), 8 metodą (ii) i 8 metodą (iii).
The aim of the article is to present selected aspects of the translation of German brand names into Chinese. First, the concept and functions of the brand are described, then the question of whether brand names should be local or global. Features of the Chinese language and writing, relevant to the translation of brand names, are also discussed. In the analytical part, linguistic and graphic features of Chinese brand names are characterized and methods of translating foreign names into Chinese are presented. These are (i) direct translation, (ii) free translation without regard to the original pronunciation, (iii) mixed translation, which takes into account both the pronunciation and the meaning of the original name. Of the 27 brand names examined, 11 were translated using method (i), 8 using method (ii) and 8 using method (iii).
