The main aim of this article is to present the issues of working with children and youth with intellectual disabilities in the environment of a nursing home. The accommodation of children and young people of foreign descent to new life conditions and educational challenges abroad is a process that takes place primarily in the context of social interactions. The aim of the article below is to present selected experiences in terms of integrating schoolchildren of Polish origin in Germany. The author considers the presentation of school space as an integration microcosm of its own to be of particular importance. It is worth noting that the German educational system in the present form often discriminates againsts choolchildren of foreign descent and limits the opportunities for further education. The author’s own empirical verifications served as the research illustration in the text. The verifications, though carried out on a small sample, indicate some timeless trends among young Polish immigrants.

Opis:
Literature for children and youth is reinterpreted under the influence of the new humanities. For example, prose from the 20th century is subjected to postcolonial read-outs (In Desert and Wilderness [W pustyni i w puszczy] by Henryk Sienkiewicz, the novel cycle by Alfred Szklarski), an eco-critical reading of the works of Tove Jansson, Hugh Lofting and the Polish writers Ludwik Jerzy Kern and Dorota Terakowska is proposed. On the other hand, works based on historical issues create a thematically focused series of publications, genealogical and geanological cycles, which are also fictionalized biographies, separate works referring to the lineage of the Polish state and dynastic linagees, post-memory narratives of a so-called “second generation” about the experience of the Second World War, and works on migration issues. The examples of literary historiography for adolescents mentioned and described in the article, captured in several areas of the formal issues, can be read through the prism of many analytical and interpretative practices, overlapping and incompletemethodologies. Retentional direction of reading, with the horizon of the past inscribed in it, does not exclude a protentional-oriented towards the future and environmental change, motivated by postcolonial revisions of old works, important issues of the 21st century (migration, post-memory), and a non-anthropocentric perception of reality. Their analysis should take into account the “poetics of history”, tropology of the narrative and narrative strategies (which Hayden White wrote about). Moreover, entangling the past with the present of the child-reader (and in fact with their future), seems to be a necessary condition for its interiorization, for recognizing it as one’s own, for admitting it. It always has a multitemporal, multigenerational and multicultural character.

The polish comic book market between years 1989 and 2010 The article discusses the comic book market in Poland in 1989–2010. The author tried to determine both its size and progress dynamics. The key elements of the paper are Polish comic publishers, e.g. Egmont Polska (Egmont Poland), Kultura Gniewu (Wrath’s Culture), Mandragora, Japonica Polonica Fantastica, and their most important titles. The article includes almost all forms of comic book publishing, such as European, American and Asian comic albums and books, comic magazines, children magazines, in which cartoons and funnies prevail. The paper do not analyze comic strips published in newspapers. The article is supported by numerical data. The study contains also author’s own defi nition of the comic book market.

After Ukraine’s independence in 1991 Ukrainian children got wider access to the translations of the works of prominent world writers for children. The classic literature of the world, aiming to mediate the children’s feelings for beauty and literary aesthetic, became an integral part of the Ukrainian educational system. Thanks to the increase of famous children’s books written in modern Ukraine, Ukraine is now experiencing the growth of a new generation of more intelligent and capable citizens free from communism ideology, able to integrate and positively contribute to the modern multicultural world. However “children and war” is now again among the painful topics in modern Ukrainian society but not new in history and literature. There are no wars, initiated by Ukrainians. The Famine of Ukrainians in the East of Ukraine by Russians, the Second World War, physical genocide of Ukrainian families and their children for the whole century even also just for the Ukrainian language saved Pain and Distrust in the generation memory of Ukrainians. But the aim of this survey of the Ukrainian literature for children and youth is to show the developing processes in the society on the basics of the main ideas, topics, directions and values during the XX-XXI centuries, beginning since the end of the XIX century by such prominent writer like Ivan Franko.

This article is a conclusion of reflections on issues related to psychological predispositions of self-destructive behaviors in children and adolescents. Groups, which are vulnerable to manipulation and social impact are especially young people. Historically, there are many examples of sects and social groups whose minors became victims. Suicide is one of the major causes of child and adolescent death. Due to the dangers that occur in the present day, it is worth to pay attention to preventive measures directed mainly to the youngest representatives of society.

On the one hand the achievements of modern civilisation make life easier in almost every area of human functioning, on the other hand they can cause various difficulties – both in the physical health of the individual and their psychosocial functioning. This is reflected in contemporary literature on the subject and statistical data indicating an increase in the prevalence of health problems in the group of children and adolescents. Over the last hundred years, health ceased to be a negative category meaning only the state of absence of physical illness, and began to be treated in a processual and holistic way. Therefore, the emphasis has been shifted from medical interventions focused on the treatment of the already existing disease to activities focused on developing and strengthening health in the biopsychosocial dimension. The article addresses the issue of children's and adolescent's health in the context of changes that have occurred in understanding it, and consequently also in the area of activities undertaken for its benefit. The article points out the need for actions in the area of health promotion (including health education) which, having a long-term and systemic nature, should be an integral element of the education process. Thus, attention was drawn to the role of parents and teachers as persons responsible for shaping the health of the future generation.

The paper presents thematic analyses relating to migration processes, situated between the Legacy of the Past and Challenges of the Future. The authors focus on a complex migration process referring to key factors that characterise it as well as dominant concepts in host societies: segregation and integration. The theoretical considerations undertaken in the text are primarily oriented towards presenting the diverse situation of Migrant Children and Youth “On the Move” as a category of the young generation affected by migration processes. The text is an attempt to reflect on the functioning of migrant backgrounds in the context of children’s and adolescents’ integration with the new place of residence. Particular attention was drawn to fragile areas generating distance, social exclusion and consequently hindering the process of integration.

The main aim of the paper is to analyse the literary representations of meetings of children’s characters with Germans. The revision of the image of a German, who has been perceived as strange and dangerous for centuries, is carried out based on the example of selected contemporary books for young readers as well as literature for adults. There is a tendency to perpetuate a negative stereotype in contemporary Polish literature on the one hand and an attempt to overturn it on the other. The latter is achieved by presenting individual and often tragic German lives that so far have been marginalised in narratives about the past.

The paper presents a review of the research methods used to assess the nutritional status of children and youth in Poland in the period 2005–2015. The analysis revealed multi-level heterogeneity of the methods which involved the following aspects: methodology, interpretation of the obtained results and scope of the conducted surveys.
W pracy dokonano przeglądu metod badawczych stosowanych do oceny stanu odżywienia dzieci i młodzieży w Polsce w latach 2005–2015. One of the new professions introduced into the Polish family support system that can carry out social and educational work, next to a social worker and a school pedagogue, is the family assistant. The purpose of the assistant's work is to achieve the basic level of life stability by the family, which will enable it to raise children. The basic task of the assistant is to support parents in properly fulfilling their care and educational function. Other tasks include: helping the family in solving social, psychological and educational problems, in social and professional activation, and motivating parents and children to take advantage of other forms of help and integration. The family assistant’s work is aimed at the whole family, parents and children. This article presents examples of care and upbringing activities carried out by a family assistant addressed to children and youth.

The aim of the article was to examine the impact of existing taboos on the use of sexual terminology in non-scientific discourse. The study was carried out on the basis of 111 popular science books for children and youth devoted to sexuality and published in Poland in the 1945–2018 period. We collected a corpus of sexual vocabulary related to external male and female genital organs and to sexual intercourse. The analysis showed that these notions are expressed by both sexological terms and their everyday language equivalents. In the majority of books, at least one term appears, which indicates that terminology is seen as appropriate means of naming taboo concepts in communication with children and teenagers. However, since more than half of the analysed publications also use common-vocabulary expressions in addition to terminology, we conclude that the authors consider terminology as insufficient by itself. The strategies used in the selection of sexual vocabulary depend on at least five combined factors: the type of taboo involved, the time of publication of the book, the country of origin, the ideology presented in the book, and the age of the reader.
