Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the presented study was the comparison of physical activity of students from selected countries. The key of paper selection was to find various kinds of students groups from different countries and different cultures. The author compared results of students’ physical activity.Materials and methods: The paper compare the previously published papers aboutphysical activity of students from selected countries. All respondents were examined using as an instrument the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), a standardized questionnaire which enables the investigation and comparison of activity of various population groups. Results: Analysis of results of the study showed a great differentiation among students from individual countries. In each examined group of students, males proved to be the most active gender; however, among countries characterized by the highest physical activity, the results obtained by females were sometimes higher than those concerning males from countries characterized by lower activity. The study showed that the most active students are Americans and Czechs, whereas students from Croatia and South Africa show low physical activity. Conclusions: The conducted analyses demonstrated that in each country in the study the level of total activity is higher among males than females. The differences in the results of the summary MET value in males remained within the range 2,800 – 6,500 MET, while in females - within the range 1,700 – 5,900 MET. Male students were usually characterized by a high level of physical activity, whereas female students by a moderate level. Among Polish students, similar to their contemporaries from other countries, the level of total physical activity was higher among males than females. Polish students were most often characterized by a moderate level of physical activity.

Opis:
This study is specifically concerned with the effect of regular physical activity during menstruation on the course of menstrual cycle among nullipara. Based on the author’s questionnaire, the 152 women participating in the study were divided into three groups A, B and C – depending on their level of physical activity. The physical activity at a moderate level does not significantly affect the regularity of menstrual cycles. The cultivation of moderate physical activity during menstruation does not significantly affect the duration of bleeding. Moderate physical activity is irrelevant to the abundance of menstrual bleeding. Moderate physical activity has no significant effect on menstrual pain and its duration. Women who are physically active at a moderate level throughout their menstrual cycle are less likely to experience symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) than women who are only physically active outside of menstruation and are not physically active, which may indicate that moderate physical activity during menstruation prevents symptoms of premenstrual tension syndrome. Based on the results achieved, it is not possible to clearly determine the relevance of promoting moderate physical activity, with particular emphasis on that during menstruation, among women. The study needs to be continued with particular attention paid to physical activity during the day, the influence of environmental factors and stress on the examined women, and with attention paid to the intensity of pain accompanying bleeding. However, it can be assumed that there is no justification for limiting physical activity during the menstrual bleeding phase.

Opis:
Background: From the public health perspective, it is particularly important to establish links between a persons' perception of their own health and their predispositions to undertake pro-health behaviours that enable them to maintain proper functioning of their body. In the case of the paediatric population, it is crucial to emphasise that adults are responsible for the adoption and development of appropriate health-enhancing behaviours by children. The aim of this study is to verify parents' perception of the level of children’s physical activity (PA) in comparison with objective measures describing children's physical fitness. Material and methods: Material for analysis consists of the results of anthropometric tests and cardiopulmonary exercise capacity of children as well as questionnaires concerning 28,891 children completed by parents. Results: In more than 40% of the sample, the subjectively assessed level of PA was not consistent with the cardiorespiratory fitness level. It was observed that the correct assessment of the level of PA of children is more common for girls, increases with the age of the child and with the level of parental education.

The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ)
physical activity
students
Opis:
In view of new civilizational challenges of the 21st century, health promotion and education encouraging active participation in physical recreation, which should be implemented at all levels of education, within family, peer environment and local environment, become issues of particular importance. The research was carried out in the summer of 2013 and included 572 students of John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska (PSW), of such degree courses as Tourism and Recreation, Public Health, Nursing, Rescue Medicine and Computer Science. The method used in the research was a diagnostic survey based on International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The aim of the study was to get to know the differentiation between the forms of recreational physical activity taken up and expected by the students of PWS and their gender, BMI and self-assessment of physical fitness. Basing on the results of the analysis it was concluded that the abovementioned independent variables have significant impact on the forms of physical activity chosen and expected by the surveyed. Studies of the literature on the subject and the results of our previous research entitle us to conclude that university students, who in the near future will constitute the intellectual elite of the country, should be aware of the influence of physical activity on general health, the importance of healthy lifestyle and their role in promoting healthy attitudes. However, the research showed that the students are not ready to perform such tasks, therefore the actions preparing them to lead a healthy lifestyle need to be intensified.

Opis:
The peculiarities of the daily physical activity of the pupils of the general educational institutions of Ukraine are identified in the article. It is stressed that motor activity combines various motor actions and is defined by amount of movements performed by a person in the process of vital activity. For defining of daily motor activity it was used the methodology of timekeeping developed by scientists of Framingham State University for children and teenagers that is based on registration of human activity during a day. For defining the amount of time spent on each kind of motor activity, it was conducted a daily timekeeping of human activities: fixing of time spent on each kind in the succession as they alternated with each other. It is determined that the juveniles' specially organized physical activity makes 0,33-0,44 hrs, it is by 65-70% lower than the hygiene standards. The indices of the daily physical activity of the 11-15-year-old pupils are 31,1 - 33,49 points. The mentioned index among boys is by 0,61-5,75% higher than among girls. Index of daily motor activity among girls increases till the age of 12, after that it decreases gradually. Among boys the highest level of physical activity is revealed at the age of 13-14, after that it is observed decreasing of the results. The level of the pupils' physical activity is determined by the traditions of physical culture at school, by the available material resources, by the level of the professional skills of the teachers of physical culture, educationalists, school authorities.

Opis:
Purpose: We examine physical activity levels of Polish and Turkish students to determine cross-cultural and gender differences in exercise habits. Methods: Our study assessed 50 students from Adnan Menderes University in Aydin, Turkey and 50 students from the University of Physical Education in Krakow, Poland. Physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ; short form). Results were expressed in MET-minutes/week (Metabolic Equivalent of Task). Results: More than half of the students (52%) engaged in moderate physical activity in the week prior to the survey, while a quarter of the students (37%) engaged in vigorous physical activity. Low levels of physical activity were reported by 11% of the students. Total physical activity per week, expressed in MET-minutes/week, was significantly higher for Polish students (5,953.51 MET) than for Turkish students (3,095.45 MET). Moderate physical activity was higher among Turkish students while vigorous physical activity was higher among Polish students. Physical activity contrasts were further exemplified between genders. Polish women engaged in significantly more (p < 0.05) total physical activity than Turkish women. Total physical activity, high-level physical activity, and moderate-level physical activity differences were not significant (p > 0.05) between Polish and Turkish men. Conclusion: Polish university students engage in more physical activity than students from Turkey. Men were more physically active in both countries. More than half of Turkish students do not meet minimum weekly physical activity the World Health Organization recommends for preserving health.

Opis:
Stress is one of the single most significant factor for many physical and psychological dilemma. Long-term exposure to stress or chronic stress can lead to serious physical and psychological problems such as headaches, fatigue, depression, anxiety, stomachache, heart problems, chest pain, asthma, hypertension, liver dysfunction, diabetes, arthritis, suppressed immune system , skin conditions, irregular ministerial cycle, infertility, accelerated aging process, and premature death. As under perennial and /or continual stress condition the body releases excessive cortisol hormone that results in aforementioned issues. Physical activity may beneficial for mental and physical body system. Under intense or endurance exercise however increase total cortisol released levels far above the moderate training modalities which can be a destructive factor for people under extreme negative stress and can make worse stress health risk conditions. Thus, caution is need to be considered for people with negative stress.Nonetheless, according to the American physical activity guideline 10 minutes moderate aerobic exercise such as walking in division of 2×10 min or 3×10 min per day that can be performed throughout the week, seems to be helpful alternative for all adult in part people with psychological negative stress.

Opis:
Introduction: Proper nutrition and physical activity are very important elements in the proper functioning and development of children. The lack of daily, systematic physical effort in younger and younger age groups is a public health problem. Purpose: To evaluate the nutrition and physical activity of children attending primary school. Materials and methods: The study was conducted among 707 pupils form randomly selected elementary schools using the authors’ own questionnaire in the school year 2013/2014. The questionnaire included questions on selected dietary habits and physical activity as well as the socio-economic conditions of the families. Results: Among the studied children, 88.6% consumed 4 or 5 meals a day. There was a statistically significant relationship between the number of meals consumed and the age of the children. Breakfast was consumed by 86.4% of children, more often residents of the city than the village (88.0% vs. 81.7%, p <0.05). Daily consum-ption of second breakfast was declared by 71.5% of boys and 74.2% of girls. The vast majority of the studied students (86.8%) have always taken part in physical education classes. Outdoor leisure time was declared by 75% of the surveyed children. Rural students showed greater involvement in outdoor activities than students from the city (86.1% vs. 70.2%, p <0.001). A total of 62.2% of boys and 51.8% of girls (p <0.05) participated in sports activities. Conclusions: Inappropriate nutrition and lack of physical activity affected both girls and boys, and the abnormalities were dependent on where they lived and were age-related.
