Opis:
In this article the authors investigated and presented statistical models of acoustic phenomena observed within realizations of phonemes and the correlations of the acoustic properties with functional features, such as accents and sentence boundaries. The authors used two databases: the first one contained separately produced sentences and the second one - phrases extracted from larger, continuous stretches of natural speech. The authors also statistically analyzed the selected features of Polish phonemes' realizations (the duration, energy and power of the phonemes, the fundamental frequency of voiced phones) in order to detect their relations with the phone location in a sentence. Additionally, the authors built the probabilistic models and suggested the evaluation methods to assess quantitatively the phenomena known from phonetic literature. Finally, the authors have identified the pre-boundary lengthening of the phones and a decrease of energy and pitch as the markers of sentence endings. In the place of accented syllables, we have observed a significant increase of total energy and power, accompanied by a local increase of F0. Finally, we have indicated possible application of the results for speech technology.

Opis:
In this article the authors investigated and presented the experiments on the sentence boundaries annotation from Polish speech using acoustic cues as a source of information. The main result of the investigation is an algorithm for detection of the syntactic boundaries appearing in the places of punctuation marks. In the first stage, the algorithm detects pauses and divides a speech signal into segments. In the second stage, it verifies the configuration of acoustic features and puts hypotheses of the positions of punctuation marks. Classification is performed with parameters describing phone duration and energy, speaking rate, fundamental frequency contours and frequency bands. The best results were achieved for Naive Bayes classifier. The efficiency of the algorithm is 52% precision and 98% recall. Another significant outcome of the research is statistical models of acoustic cues correlated with punctuation in spoken Polish.

The phonetical statistics were collected from several Polish corpora. The paper is a summary of the data which are phoneme n-grams and some phenomena in the statistics. Triphone statistics apply context-dependent speech units which have an important role in speech recognition systems and were never calculated for a large set of Polish written texts. The standard phonetic alphabet for Polish, SAMPA, and methods of providing phonetic transcriptions are described.

Opis:
This work presents some aspects of beam-tracing techniques used in sound simulation. The Adaptive Frustum algorithm, which was designed for detecting obstacles using beam subdivision, was reviewed for its efficiency as well as its accuracy. Some possible improvements have been suggested; however, they do not fully solve the problems of using this algorithm in real-time applications. Improved algorithm implementation was tested in five scenes with different characteristics and varying complexity.

Opis:
Reverberation is a common problem for many speech technologies, such as automatic speech recogni- tion (ASR) systems. This paper investigates the novel combination of precedence, binaural and statistical independence cues for enhancing reverberant speech, prior to ASR, under these adverse acoustical con- ditions when two microphone signals are available. Results of the enhancement are evaluated in terms of relevant signal measures and accuracy for both English and Polish ASR tasks. These show inconsistencies between the signal and recognition measures, although in recognition the proposed method consistently outperforms all other combinations and the spectral-subtraction baseline.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to investigate an algorithm for generating an auto- matic portal system. This has been accomplished based on a given set of trian- gles. The proposed solution was designed to enhance the performance of a sound beam-tracing engine. This solution can also be used for other areas where portal systems are applicable. The provided technical solution emphasizes the beam tracing engine’s requirements. Our approach is based on the work of Haumont et al. (with additional improvements), resulting in improved scene segmenta- tion and lower computational complexity. We examined voxelization techniques and their properties, and have adjusted these to fit the requirements of a beam- tracing engine. As a result of our investigation, a new method for finding portal placement has been developed by adjusting the orientation of the found portals to fit the neighboring scene walls. In addition, we replaced Haumont et al.’s prevoxelization step, which is used for erasing geometrical details (for exam- ple, thin walls). This was done by smoothing the distance field that, in effect, eliminated incorrectly positioned portals. The results of our work remove the requirement for walls that separate rooms to have a particular thickness. We al- so describe a method for building a structure that accelerates real-time queries for determining the area where a given point is located. All of the presented techniques allow for the use of larger sized voxels, which increases performance and reduces memory requirements (not only during the preprocessing phase but also during real-time usage). The proposed solutions were tested using scenarios with scenes of varying complexity.

Opis:
A phoneme segmentation method based on the analysis of discrete wavelet transform spectra is described. The localization of phoneme boundaries is particularly useful in speech recognition. It enables one to use more accurate acoustic models since the length of phonemes provide more information for parametrization. Our method relies on the values of power envelopes and their first derivatives for six frequency subbands. Specific scenarios that are typical for phoneme boundaries are searched for. Discrete times with such events are noted and graded using a distribution-like event function, which represent the change of the energy distribution in the frequency domain. The exact definition of this method is described in the paper. The final decision on localization of boundaries is taken by analysis of the event function. Boundaries are, therefore, extracted using information from all subbands. The method was developed on a small set of Polish hand segmented words and tested on another large corpus containing 16 425 utterances. A recall and precision measure specifically designed to measure the quality of speech segmentation was adapted by using fuzzy sets. From this, results with F-score equal to 72.49% were obtained.

Opis:
This article is a description of the progress of research and development in the area of massive large-scale castings - slag ladles implemented in cooperation with the Faculty of Foundry Engineering of UST in Krakow. Slag ladles are the one of the major castings that has been developed by the Krakodlew (massive castings foundry) for many years. Quality requirements are constantly increasing in relation to the slag ladles. Slag ladles are an integral tool in the logistics of enterprises in the metallurgical industry in the process of well-organized slag management and other by-products and input materials. The need to increase the volume of slag ladles is still growing. Metallurgical production is expected to be achieved in Poland by 2022 at the level of 9.4 million Mg/year for the baseline scenario - 2016 - 9 million Mg/year. This article describes the research work carried out to date in the field of technology for the production of massive slag ladles of ductile cast iron and cast steel.
