Opis:
Explosion welding is one of the ways of bonding materials. This method is used to bond metals which either cannot be joined or they are difficult to bond by other methods. The study investigates the metallographic characteristics of Ni/Ti joints in the form of a plate. Microstructures of the joints are examined and hardness measurements are carried out on the bonded materials and their interfaces. A detailed analysis of the distributions of wave length and width is presented. An average microhardness of the interface is found to be higher than that of the base materials.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to manufacture amorphous Co22Y54Al24 alloy in a form of thin ribbons and to investigate their properties. The investigated ribbons were prepared by rapid solidification of molten metal on a rotating copper cylinder (melt-spinning). In order to obtain the material with amorphous structure, the cooling rate of the liquid alloy should vary in a range from 104 to 106 K/s. The microstructure studies were performed using X-ray diffractometery. The mechanical properties were investigated by metallographic studies, micro-hardness and tribological resistance tests moreover the surface roughness profile were analyzed. All studies were performed for two sides of tapes, since the differences in ribbons surface, related with manufacturing process, are clearly visible. The surface from the bottom (drum side) was glossy and from the top side it was shiny.

Opis:
Turkeys carcasses at selected point after slaughter on dressing line in poultry were sampled and analyzed for Salmonella. These slaughter turkeys came from the northeast part of Poland. The examinations were carried out in each month of 2009. Three hundred turkeys were selected at random from a commercial slaughter line, immediately after completing the cooling process. The percentage of these 300 turkeys from which Salmonella spp. were isolated was relatively high (8.3%; Salmonella positive results were observed in 25 cases). The lowest Salmonella spp. rate (1.3 %) for slaughter birds was found in the fourth quarter, and the highest contamination rate at 18.6% was found, in the third quarter. The serological types of Salmonella spp. isolated from the whole turkey carcasses were S. Saintpaul, S. Senftenberg, S. Anatum, S. Heidelberg, S. Hadar, S. Typhimurium and S. Infantis.

Opis:
Identification of factors that affect postural stability may help to improve diagnostic accuracy and enhance the quality of treatment and rehabilitation. This study sought to assess the relationship between postural stability parameters and anthropometric factors of persons with hearing impairment (HI). Methods: The study included 128 individuals – 42 subjects with HI and 86 without HI (healthy controls). Research methodology included an interview and a medical examination, anthropometric measurements and stabilometric tests on platforms with stable and unstable surfaces. Results: In the group of female study participants with HI, significant correlations were only noted between body height and the Fall Risk Index (FRI). In the group of male subjects with HI, the study revealed significant correlations between FRI and body mass, BMI, % MM (muscle mass percentage) and % FAT (fat percentage). Moreover, moderate correlation was found between COP path with eyes open and body mass, while high correlation was observed between COP path with eyes open and BMI, % MM and % FAT. No significant correlation was noted between FRI and body height in men with HI. Conclusions: The examination of correlations between postural stability and body build of persons with HI did not confirm the effects of body height on postural stability in the examined group of individuals with HI, but revealed a greater influence of somatic parameters (body mass, BMI, % MM, % FAT) on postural stability in hearing-impaired men.

Opis:
Introduction: Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is one of the most common autoimmune thyroid disorders and o the most common cause of hypothyroidism, but the relation between TSH and body mass is still unclear. Material and methods: The group studied consisted of 53 patients with HT in euthyreosis and 28 healthy individuals. All the patients underwent thyroid ultrasonography and body mass analysis with the use of a medical analyzer INBODY 200. Blood samples were also analyzed for TSH and anti-thyroid antibodies. Results: The patients with HT had higher body mass (p=0.008), body mass index (BMI) (p=0.02), Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) (0.01) and fat mass (p=0.02) than had the controls. In HT group increased body mass was observed in 72% of the patients (overweight in 38% and obesity in 35% of them), as compared with 38% of overweight/obesity in the control group. Thyroid volume was significantly lower (p=0.01) and anti-peroxidase antibodies level was two times higher in the group with the treatment period > 2 years, but the patients with relatively short treatment period were 7 kg heavier and their fat mass was 6 kg higher than in the subjects treated longer than 2 years. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the patients with HT, even in euthyreosis, have significantly higher body mass, BMI, WHR and fat mass than healthy individuals, which is probably associated with previous disturbances that led to the increase in fat mass at the stage of hypothyroidism. The observed changes tend to normalize during L-thyroxine replacement therapy.
