Opis:
This article presents the views of Maurizio Ferraris, one of today’s best-known Italian middle-generation philosophers. Since the end of the 1990s, he has been constructing a concept he calls new realism. It is a critique of postmodernism defined in the broad sense, which, in Ferraris’ view, is characterised by the primacy of interpretation over facts, epistemology over ontology, conceptual schemes over reality. Ferraris assumes the possibility of strictly separating the two cognitive activities: the primary determination of facts and their secondary interpretation. Ferraris’ realist views are also expressed in his aesthetics and the concept of social document, founded on the notion of trace understood in the material sense. The author also attempts to critique Ferraris’ views on his understanding of realism and interpretation.

The article Sculptor and philosopher deals with the Romanian thinker Constantin Noica’s interpretations of Constantin Brâncuşi’s work. These interpretations are presented with regard to Noica’s philosophical concepts, in particular his reflections on Romanian culture and the sense of being manifested within it. Of fundamental importance in his interpretations is the category of becoming within being – the most important idea developed by Noica and which he applied in many fields of philosophy.

Opis:
Between literary and cultural comparative studies The article constitutes an attempt to present in a synthetic way the main assumptions behind the fundamental trends in the comparative studies of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as their evolution. Following the predominance of the influential model which had developed since the middle of the 19th century and focused chiefly on the genetic research of literary affiliations, and which had assumed the existence of a national literature as an organic entity, since the sixties of the 20th century, there arises a new perspective in comparative studies, where the fundamental role is played by thematic and structural categories (motif, concept, topic, genre, current etc.). The nineties of the 20th century bring yet another attempt to reformulate the methods of comparative studies and to abandon focusing on literary studies, in favor of cultural research in comparative studies, where the fundamental role is played, among others, by issues such as the concept of power, gender, race and also review and multi-, inter- and transculturalism

The article is an analysis of Bolesław Lesmian's Śnieg (Snow), the character of which is that of a poetic meditation on the subject of impossibility of return to childhood and of recreating the past. Special emphasis is put on the problem of trace, functioning as a sign to the past and leading to a traumatic event in which the subject of participated Snieg (Snow)-contact with a thing unidentified precisely participated, which is hiding inside a mysterious home. The subject of the poem is not capable of presenting fu lly this event nor rationalise it, it becomes absent in the order of his memory, given only by a mysterious trace, which both joins the hero with his old " I" as well as makes it possible to reconcile the past with the present and construct a stable identity of the subject.

Opis:
The article attempts to identify certain aspects of the theological heritage that can be found in the so-called radical hermeneutics – the contemporary mainstream of the hermeneutic thoughts, which is represented among others by Gianni Vattimo and John Caput. It implies: ontologising the very concept of interpretation (there are no facts, only interpretations); move away from objectivity to the interpretation of the interpretation of productive (i.e. co-create meanings of the text by a reader) and the primacy of ethics in the act of reading (interpretation as a response to the gist of the text, and not an attempt to impose appropriation or meanings). Both the idea of interpretation productive and conviction about the role of love (caritas) in the act of interpretation can be traced as far back in the patristic thought (respectively in the writings of St. Gregory the Great and St. Augustine). Especially in the late thought by Vattimo the interpretation of Christian dogma of the Incarnation in the spirit of radical hermeneutics also plays an important role, assuming that every meaning is „embodied” in the historical, finite forms and contexts.

Opis:
The article presents an attempt to outline, from a mainly typological and partly historical perspective, what the author considers the most important varieties of the relationship between philosophy and literature (which is, of course, understood here in a working and broad sense, as poesis). In the first of these varieties, for which the fundamental significance is Plato’s gesture of excluding poets from the state, the philosophical logos defines itself in opposition to literature, or mythos. In the second, which appears to predominate from Aristotle to the 18th century, the relationship between philosophy and literature takes on a more neutral character: the former provides the latter with motifs, themes, topics, mainly related to moral philosophy in the broadest sense, while the latter provides the former with discursive modes, such as genre. Modern aesthetics and the philosophy and theory of literature (fundamentally different from the tradition of the great poets and rhetoricians of the 16th and 17th centuries), which emerged together with transcendental philosophy and its reception in German Romanticism, contributed both to the increased interest among philosophers in literature and to a clear embedding, or even closing, of literature in philosophical notions, which originated mainly in the tradition of transcendentalism and dialectical thought. Finally, the beginning of the twentieth century is distinguished, in most of the major continental philosophical traditions, by a tendency to seek, or to find, in literature the most important partner of philosophical thinking, and sometimes even the identity of philosophy.

The article presents an attempt to trace, in the tradition of Christian hermeneutics, the origin of an idea which plays an important role in the entire modern hermeneutical discourse, namely – the idea of infinite interpretation. Today, it is regarded as a feature of radical (Vattimo), post-structuralist (Foucault) hermeneutics which questions, in many ways and starting from different traditions of thought and with different premises, the belief that the meaning of a text is univocal, given once and for all, closed, and the work of an interpreter is only limited to its extraction, unambiguous understanding, reconstruction.

Opis:
The essay Symploke as a figure of mimesis in Plato’s philosophy is an attempt to reconstruct two different models of mimesis in Plato’s thought. The first model (Repulic) is ontological and based on the notion of truth as manifestation of real being (eidos or physis). Here, a copy or imitation is but a non-being, an appearance, or „a weak being” that participates in the true being only to a very small extent. The second model (The Sophist) is epistemological and based on the notion of truth as resemblance between an object and a copy. Here, an image is good if it is perfectly similar to the object it represents. Both models of mimesis cannot be treated separately. Their subtle interpenetration can be seen in the Platonic figure of symploke (a „plexus”) from The Sophist, in which being and non-being, truthfulness and falsity unexpectedly show their paradoxical unity.

Opis:
Oblicza hermeneutyki (Faces of Hermeneutics) by Paweł Dybel covers many important problems of contemporary hermeneutics and can be read in many ways. First of all, it is an apology of hermeneutics and an attempt to define a hermeneutical model of understanding as opposed to some other models developed by, mostly, psychoanalysis and the so-called hermeneutics of suspicion. Secondly, Dybel tries to show specific features of hermeneutic thinking by situating hermeneutics between philosophy and human sciences. His own vision of hermeneutics is shaped mostly by Gadamers’s idea of understanding as dialogue, conversation, mediation. The author also outlines the history of filological hermeneutics, from Luther to some contemporary theorists and investigates certain ethical and anthropological issues of hermeneutics.

Opis:
The paper deals with the topic of an acheiropoietes (an image “not made by hands”) and, more broadly, with the motif of the so-called true or natural image. Such images were known to ancient Greek thinkers (Dionysius of Halicarnassus and Plotinus), but their importance grew significantly in the Christian theology of icons which treated Christ as the perfect image of His Father. In modern times true images mostly function in folklore and they are also referred to in modern art. From the perspective of the philosophy of representation, a true image is an interesting utopia of perfect mimesis – it comes into being in a natural, not artificial way, whereas a copy is regarded as equivalent to the original.

The article attempts to interpret the Attempts at writing series of poems in Witold Wirpsza’s volume of poetry entitled Superstitions. This has been read as something of a poetic and philosophical treatise dealing with nature and also the ontology of writing. Two thematic motifs, namely trace and gift, which appear in this series regularly and in numerous variants, are interpreted in the context of contemporary post-metaphysical philosophy (Derrida, Blanchot, Lévinas, Ricoeur) and presented metaphorically as writing that blurs or eradicates presence: being, subject, meaning.

The essay deals with Vattimo's interpretation of Nietzsche in the context of contemporary critical discussion concerning Nietzsche's heritage in the modern philosophy. In his early book II soggetto e la maschera. Nietzche e la problema della liberazione (1974) Vattimo tries to picture Nietzsche as a philosopher of emancipation, who announces both social liberation of humanity from political oppression and domination, and cultural liberation of the symbolical domain (values, symbols, senses) from metaphysics and its categories like substance, essence, stable, immutable being. In his later essays on Nietzsche, gathered in the volume entitled Dialogo eon Nietzsche, Vattimo concentrates on hermeneutical aspects of Nietzsche's philosophy and shows his influence on contemporary philosophical hermeneutics and theory of interpretation.
