Diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adolescent patients may be problematic, because of the broad spectrum of symptoms. Population research display heritable character. The function of dopaminergic, adrenergic, and serotoninergic systems is disordered in different ways in patients, who suffer from this disease. Purpose: The aim of this article is to show the actual view on the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in teenage patients.. Results: In the treatment of ADHD the most important thing is pedagogical therapy as well as cooperation of parents and medical crew. In some particular cases pharmacologic treatment should also be included in therapeutic process, which is described in this review. Methylphenidate is the most frequent drug used in the treatment and that is why we focused on the complex description of the substance. Conclusions: Teachers and the school responsible for teaching these children must adapt didactic methods to the severity of the disorder. It is valuable to conduct the drug in the therapy of teenagers whose parents ready to cooperate, always with psychiatric supervision. In the process of pharmacotherapy, it is crucial to include breaks, for example during vacations. Psychostimulants are highly addictive substances, which is why many researchers are uncertain about the routine prescription of methylphenidate.

Opis:
The probabilistic Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) approach is presented to solve the problem of designing an optimal trajectory for a mobile data acquisition platform. An ACO algorithm optimizes an objective function defined in terms of the value of the acquired data samples subject to different sets of constraints depending on the current data acquisition strategy. The analysis presented in this paper focuses on an environment monitoring system, which acquires in-situ data for precise calibration of a water quality monitoring system. The value of the sample is determined based on the concentration of the water pollutant, which in turn is obtained through processing of multi-spectral satellite imagery. Since our problem is defined in a continuous space of coordinates, and in some strategies each point is able to connect to any other point in the space, we adopted a hybrid model that involves a connection graph and also a spatial grid.

Opis:
The article presents the analysis of the dead time measurement using two sources for a non-paralyzable detector. It determined the optimum division of count rate measurement time between both source measurement and a single source one. Results of the work can be used to optimize dead time measurement for systems which count photons or particles.
W artykule zaprezentowano analizę pomiaru czasu martwego detektora nieparaliżowalnego metodą dwóch źródeł. Wyznaczono optymalny podział czasu pomiaru częstości zliczeń dla pomiaru jednym i dwoma źródłami. Wyniki pracy mogą być wykorzystane do optymalizacji systemów zliczających fotony lub cząstki.

Opis:
Gain prediction theory of single foil Gas Electron Multiplier detector was developed. Gas electron multiplier (GEM) detector with single foil was developed. Soft X-ray spectra with an energy of 5.9 keV emitted by the isotope Fe-55 were measured. On this basis, the dependence of gain and energy resolution from the detector voltage was determined. The simple theory of gain dependence on various detector parameters was developed. Preliminary results of the study confirmed the potential usefulness of the GEM detector as a substitute for the multiwire proportional chamber.
Opracowano teorię wzmocnienia jednofoliowego detektora z gazowym powielaniem elektronów. Opracowano detektor z gazowym powielaniem elektronów z pojedynczą folią. Zmierzono widmo miękkiego promieniowania X, o energii 5,9 keV, emitowanego przez izotop Fe-55. Na tej podstawie wyznaczono zależność wzmocnienia i energetycznej zdolności rozdzielczej od napięcia zasilającego detektor. Opracowano prosta teorią zależności wzmocnienia od różnych parametrów detektora. Wstępne rezultaty badań potwierdzają potencjalną przydatność detektora GEM jako substytutu wielodrutowej komory proporcjonalnej.

A complete system for measurement control, signal acquisition and data processing for an OCT pachymeter is described. Moreover, dedicated data processing algorithm used for noise reduction is presented. A simple OCT scanner was built and some measurements were performed to examine the capabilities of the system.

Opis:
Monitoring of biological and chemical pollutants in large bodies of water requires the acquisition of a large number of in-situ measurements by a mobile sensor platform. Critical to this problem is an efficient path planning method, easily adaptable to different control strategies that ensure the collection of data of the greatest value. This paper proposes a deliberative path planning algorithm, which features the use of waypoints for a ship navigation trajectory that are generated by Genetic Algorithm (GA) based procedures. The global search abilities of Genetic Algorithms are combined with the heuristic local search in order to implement a navigation behaviour suitable to the required data collection strategy. The adaptive search system operates on multi-layer maps generated from remote sensing data, and provides the capacity for dealing with multiple classes of water pollutants. A suitable objective function was proposed to handle different sampling strategies for the collection of samples from multiple water pollutant classes. A region-of-interest (ROI) component was introduced to deal effectively with the large scale of search environments by pushing the search towards ROI zones. This resulted in the reduction of the search time and the computing cost, as well as good convergence to an optimal solution. The global path planning performance was further improved by multipoint crossover operators running in each GA generation. The system was developed and tested for inland water monitoring and trajectory planning of a mobile sample acquisition platform using commercially available satellite data.

Introduction. Schizophrenic patients present cognitive dysfunctions which are regarded to be one of endophenotypical markers predisposing to schizophrenia. Currently, schizophrenia can be treated as a neurodegenerative and neurodeveloping disease with genetic background. Objective. Assessment of the possible positive effect of neuropsychological rehabilitation in schizophrenia, in patients presenting cognitive dysfunctions. An additional aim was to verify the hypothesis that some genetic polymorphisms can be a prognostic factor for success in neuropsychological rehabilitation. Material and methods. 41 participants and 40 control subjects were randomly selected. Both groups had the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. Cognitive functions were checked with the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Trail Making Test, and Stroop Test at the beginning and end of the experiment. In the research group, each patient trained with the rehabilitation programme RehaCom, whereas the control group did not receive such training. Genes COMT rs4680 and BDNF rs6265 were analysed in the genetic part of study. Results. RehaCom procedures appear to be useful in the neuropsychological rehabilitation of cognitive dysfunctions in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. The research group showed a moderate improvement in the training programmes. Analysis of parameters obtained in the neuropsychological tests showed a slight improvement in both groups. At the present time, analysis of the polymorphisms of genes cannot be treated as a prognostic factor for the success of neuropsychological rehabilitation because statistical analyses showed few dependences with little statistical significance. Conclusions. Cognitive rehabilitation produces moderate improvement in cognitive functioning.

Opis:
The high sensitivity time correlated single photon counting system (with photomultiplier tube) for biomedical measurements was designed and tested. Photon time of flight through a parafine wax phantom was modeled by Monte Carlo simulation and next measured by the device. Mean time delay introduced by a phantom is in a good agreement with simulation results. The results presented in this paper demonstrate the feasibility of measuring the optical response with the device.

Rozwój komputerów znacznie odmienił charakter pracy inżyniera. W klasycznym podejściu projektowany obiekt powstawał w wyobraźni projektanta a materialną formą projektu był zbiór dwuwymiarowych rysunków technicznych. Współczesne oprogramowanie pozwala zbudować wirtualny projekt w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej. Projekt ten może być przetwarzany na wiele sposobów. Inżynieria odwrotna (Reverse Engineering) polega na budowie modelu numerycznego na podstawie rzeczywistego obiektu. Założono utworzenie modelu samolotu M-28 Bryza o wymiarach rzeczywistych, złożonego z części, aby możliwe było odwzorowanie ruchu wybranych podzespołów w celu przeprowadzenia odpowiednich badań aerodynamicznych bez absorbowania obiektu rzeczywistego.
The development of computers has tremendously changed the character of the engineer’s job. In the classic approach, the designed structure was imagined by the designer. The consequent physical form of the project was a collection of 2-D technical drawings. Modern software allows to build a virtual project in a 3-D space. This design may be processed in a number of ways. Reverse Engineering consists in building a numerical model on the basis of a real structure. The assumption was to create a real size M-28 Bryza aircraft model, which would be composed of parts so as to copy the movement of the selected components. This, in turn, would enable to conduct proper aerodynamic investigation without using the real structure.

This paper presents processing and analysis techniques to apply LiDAR data to estimate tree diameter at breast height (DBH) - a critical variable applied in a large number of forest management tasks. Our analysis focuses on the estimation of DBH using only LiDAR-derived tree height and tree crown dimensions, i.e., variables accessible from aerial observations. The modeling process was performed using 161 white and red pine trees from four 3850 m2 plots in the Foret de l'Aigle located in southwestern Quebec. Segments of the LiDAR data extracted for DBH estimation were obtained using the Individual Tree Crown (ITC) delineation method. Regression models were investigated using height as well as crown dimensions, which increased the precision of the model. This study demonstrates that DBH can be modeled to acceptable accuracy using altimetry data and automated data processing procedures and then be used in high-precision timber volume assessment.

The field of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) has been generally equated with the use of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Intelligence methods and techniques in the design and operation of manufacturing systems. Those methods and techniques are now applied in many different technological domains to deal with such pervasive problems as data imprecision and nonlinear system behavior. The focus in IMS is now shifting to a broader understanding of the intelligent behavior of manufacturing systems. The questions debated by researchers today relate more to what kind and what level of adaptability to instill in the structure and operation of a manufacturing system, with the discussions increasingly gravitating to the issue of system self-organization. This paper explores the changing face of IMS from the perspective of the pattern recognition domain. It presents design criteria for techniques that will allow us to implement manufacturing systems exhibiting adaptive and intelligent behaviour. Examples are given to show how incorporating pattern recognition capabilities can help us build more intelligence and self-organization into the manufacturing systems of the future.
