Opis:: Applying solid paint is a procedure used in practice to cover an aircraft skin with a coat of chromatic lacquer which possesses anti-corrosion properties. Additionally, this coat improves aerodynamic characteristics of a/c skin. Solid paint is applied as a preventive maintenance of the material the skin is made of to protect it against atmospheric exposure factors and it is conducted before an a/c is certified airworthy or when a given assembly requires separate maintenance or repair , and even in case of faults removal of skin coating fragment during scheduled maintenance. Painting process is conducted in a specially designated room which needs to meet a number of requirements and occupational safety regulations. The most important factor which the painting shop must meet is an appropriate room temperature, air-conditioning system and fire extinguishing equipment. The process of applying solid paint is timeconsuming and requires precision. The author presents chosen methods of applying solid paint on aircraft construction elements as well as painting process preparatory maintenance. The article presents specificity of the preparatory process starting with appropriately prepared room, protective clothing and equipment suitable for solid paint application and ending with appropriate humidity parameters. The contents of the article depicts conditions which have to be met so that the process is accomplished in a safe manner and according to technological procedures. Subsequent stages of the paint application process show complex technology and influence of many factors which guarantee correct and safe task execution. Correct and technologically appropriate removal of the old lacquer layer, aircraft washing and finally outer layers application guarantee high quality, durability and safety of air crews and passengers.

Opis:: Rozwój komputerów znacznie odmienił charakter pracy inżyniera. W klasycznym podejściu projektowany obiekt powstawał w wyobraźni projektanta a materialną formą projektu był zbiór dwuwymiarowych rysunków technicznych. Współczesne oprogramowanie pozwala zbudować wirtualny projekt w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej. Projekt ten może być przetwarzany na wiele sposobów. Inżynieria odwrotna (Reverse Engineering) polega na budowie modelu numerycznego na podstawie rzeczywistego obiektu. Założono utworzenie modelu samolotu M-28 Bryza o wymiarach rzeczywistych, złożonego z części, aby możliwe było odwzorowanie ruchu wybranych podzespołów w celu przeprowadzenia odpowiednich badań aerodynamicznych bez absorbowania obiektu rzeczywistego.
The development of computers has tremendously changed the character of the engineer’s job. In the classic approach, the designed structure was imagined by the designer. The consequent physical form of the project was a collection of 2-D technical drawings. Modern software allows to build a virtual project in a 3-D space. This design may be processed in a number of ways. Reverse Engineering consists in building a numerical model on the basis of a real structure. The assumption was to create a real size M-28 Bryza aircraft model, which would be composed of parts so as to copy the movement of the selected components. This, in turn, would enable to conduct proper aerodynamic investigation without using the real structure.

Możliwość połączenia technologii szybkiego prototypowania i wytwarzania z ideą urządzeń bezzałogowych daje nam szersze możliwość zastosowania tego typu urządzeń oraz perspektywę wykorzystania nowych materiałów i technologii w popularyzowaniu nowoczesnych gałęzi nauki i przemysłu.
The article presents an interesting concept of both a model and construction of an UAV. There has been a rapid development of unmanned devices in fields such as aviation, auto industry and military industry, which forces manufacturers of the devices to continue to search for new solutions both in terms of construction, technologies and materials. The article demonstrates not only an innovative look into the construction of a modern drone but also the use of 3D printing technology in constructing and repairing of those type of devices. The possibility of linking both fast prototyping and manufacturing along with the concept of unmanned devices gives us higher chances of benefiting from them as well as the prospect of applying new materials and technologies to popularize new branches of science and industry.

Opis:: The paper presents a modelling procedure of the M-28 Bryza wing with extended flaps and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations results preformed in order to assess the performance of the investigated wing for various flap extension rates. The M-28 Bryza is a two-engine high-wing aircraft used in the Polish Air Force for short distance airlift of people and equipment. The aim of this work was to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of the investigated wing. The CFD simulations were performed in order to investigate the influence of flap extension on lift and drag coefficients at various angles of attack. In order to validate the results of two different commercial CFD packages were used. The findings are presented in the form of flow visualization and aerodynamic characteristics. The typical and non-standard extension rates were investigated for low, moderate and high angles of attack. The results correlated with the limitations specified in the aircraft manual. The outcome of the presented work confirmed the feasibility of the presented methodology for its use as a supportive tool for providing additional information about airplane performance in standard and non-standard conditions of flight such as landing with one engine working. The results of work might prove useful for M-28 Bryza pilots and maintenance personnel as well as for educational purposes.

Opis:: The aim of this paper is to present the possibilities of using 3D spatial printing technology to create complex models, e.g. turbine helicopter engines, PZL-10W type, operated on the W-3 “Sokół” helicopter. We have presented the process of creating a spatial model using CAD software. It required a careful selection of the parts necessary for its manufacture as well as elimination of minor parts, which were insignificant from the functional and educational perspective of the model. We presented the type of printer which was used to prepare the model, and also its software. The verification of the correctness of designing the files for particular parts was made with Netfabb software. Proper verification affected the choice of files to be sent to the 3D printer software, where they underwent further slight changes concerning, among others, the thickness of the layers and the percentage of filling the interior of the individual parts of the engine. The printouts of the selected engine parts have been shown in the photographs. We also (briefly) described the processes of treatment of the parts, their labour intensity as well as the hardware used on a regular basis for this purpose. Finally, we discussed the assembly process of the entire engine. In conclusion, we stressed the importance of the model as a significant didactic aid which is to support the process of acquiring knowledge related to the construction, kinematics and operation of the turbine engine. We also specified the amount of used materials, labour consumption (in man-hours) with regard to the same printout of the parts as well as the finishing works.

Opis:: The aim of the work was to review selected methods of plasma nitriding, which according to the authors might he used in the thermo-chemical treatment of aircraft parts. The introduction explains the nitriding process and presents the requirements on the thermo-chemical treatment of aircraft parts. Three methods of plasma nitriding have been described: Direct Current Plasma Nitriding (DCPN), Active Screen Plasma Nitriding (ASPN) and Low Pressure Nitriding in AEGD (Arc Enhanced Glow Discharge) plasma. While describing DCPN plasma nitriding method, authors drew attention to known problems, which occur in this process such as edge effect or hollow cathode effect. The Keller's model, the Marchand's model and the Walkowicz's model of nitriding process, which can be found in the literature, were also presented in this work. Another purpose of this work was to present hypotheses about the transportation of nitrogen during Active Screen Plasma Nitriding process and to show that in this nitriding method, defects typical for Direct Current Plasma Nitriding do not occur. While describing Low Pressure Nitriding in AEGD plasma, authors also presented the model of nitriding mechanism in this process, which shows four nitrogen diffusion paths (physisorption, chemisorption, adsorption ofNj, ion implantation). Examples of layers obtained by applying described nitriding methods were presented. The measurement ofnitrided layers confirmed that it is possible to obtain a layer without E film on the surface.

Opis:: This paper demonstrates the feasibility of using-a water tunnel for the visualisation of flow in airfoils with flight control systems in the form of slots and flaps. Furthermore, the issue of using water tunnels for scientific and training purposes was explained. The technology of 3D printed models for practical tests in a water tunnel was also presented. The experiment included conducting flow visualisation tests for three airfoil models: with the Clark Y 11.7% as the base airfoil and the same airfoil with a slot and a flap. Moreover, a modification to dye injection system was introduced. The presented results of flow visualisation around models with the use of dye, confirmed the effectiveness of the applied methodology. The results and conclusions may be utilized to verify most flow-related issues in hydrodynamic tunnels and can also be used as a training element.
W pracy przedstawiono uzasadnienie możliwości zastosowania tunelu wodnego do wizualizacji przepływu modeli profili lotniczych z mechanizacją w postaci slotów i klap. Ponadto przybliżono tematykę zastosowania tuneli wodnych w celach naukowych jak i szkoleniowych. Przedstawiono również technologię wydruku 3D modeli do testów praktycznych w tunelu wodnym. Eksperyment obejmował przeprowadzenie badań wizualizacyjnych dla trzech modeli profilu lotniczego: jako bazowy profil Clark Y 11.7% oraz ten sam profil ze slotem i z klapą. Ponadto autorzy pracy wprowadzili modyfikację wprowadzania barwnika przed badany model geometryczny umiejscowiony na trzymaku w przestrzeni pomiarowej. Przedstawione wyniki zobrazowania przepływał w:okół modeli za pomocą barwnika potwierdziły skuteczność zastosowanej metodyki prowadzenia eksperymentu na charakterystycznych kątach natarcia. Wyniki i wnioski można wykorzystać do zweryfikowania większości zagadnień przepływowych w tunelach hydrodynamicznych jak również mogą posłużyć jako element szkoleniowy.
