The paper presents a multi-beam digital sonar that was designed for monitoring and fish stock assessment in in/and waters. The sonar can also be used as a bottom profiler in lakes, rivers and shallow sea areas. The hexagonal piezoelectric transducer array co-operates with a commutator set. The 32 -channel digital beamformer creates 30 narrow receiving beams in every 60o sector of simultaneous observation. The six sectors cover the whole 360o angle range of the sonar. The beamformer digital signal processing is based on second order sampling of echo signals and the phase-shifting principle of beam deflection. The sonar block diagram, beamformer algorithms, as well as transducers designs are discussed.

Opis:
This paper presents some problems of the designing and using of suburban parks as an elements of greenbelts. A selection of Polish and foreign parks differing in size and function (eg. recreational, leisure, sport, natural), acting as urban borders limiting sprawling was chosen to illustrate the problem. Functional programs of such compositions, the principles of usage, and development of trends in their designing were included. The article shows a group of parks originally designed as suburban parks, which became city parks. Problems arising from adaptation to the new city conditions were discussed as well as possible creation of further greenbelts or park's systems.

This article describes a new echosounder model designed specifically for institutions responsible for the management of inland waterways, artificial and natural reservoirs, and marine coastal waters. The basic requirement related to the need of sounding shallow waters is measuring the smallest possible depths. Using separate transducers (sending and receiving) and attenuating them, and introducing a high dynamic range TVG circuit allowed the measurement of depths from 20cm at a maximum range of 100m. Water temperature is measured in order to include sound velocity corrections. The echosounder is manufactured using modern technology, with a PC 104 computer, robust FLASH memory emulating a hard disk, 8 inch color LCD panel, thermal printer with paper band for instant profile printouts, and a floppy disk drive for permanent storage. The echosounder interfaces to GPS.

Opis:
An important task of fishing gear designers is to develop effective selective fishing gears by optimizing its geometry. The high accuracy hydroacoustic system for codend geometry measurements was designed for developing the construction of cod codend for the Baltic fishery. The system consists of 10 pairs of hydrophones, measuring microprocessor device and notebook computer. The high frequency short pulse excitation combined with the matched digital filtering make it possible to obtain high resolution of measure data. Additionally the thermistors mounted in the hydrophones are used to calculate the local sound velocity and enable precision calibration of obtained measuring data. The construction solutions, the measuring procedure and examples of obtained data are presented below.

$0.5Bi_{0.95}Dy_{0.05}FeO_3-0.5Pb(Fe_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3$ is a multiferroic material which exhibits ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic ordering. (The synthesis of such compounds is rather difficult.) In this paper the way of the synthesis of $0.5Bi_{0.95}Dy_{0.05}FeO_3-0.5Pb(Fe_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3$ is presented. The detailed X-ray and Mössbauer effect studies were done and crystal and hyperfine interaction parameters were obtained. To measure electrical properties of the compound the impedance spectroscopy measurements were performed. The obtained impedance spectra were fitted using a proposed equivalent electrical circuit and the results were discussed in the scope of the brick layer model without easy paths.

The presence of a river in the city centre undoubtedly enhances the attractiveness of the landscape. The number of natural points, viewing vistas and exposed places increases, which is also influenced by topography. That is the case in Cracow, where the Vistula river cuts through the city. Over the centuries the river has been changing its corridor, the most memorable in the city's landscape being the one with the Vistula taking a sharp turn round Wawel Hill, and dividing near Kazimierz into the Old and New Vistula. In the 19th century the modern landscape of the Vistula Valley started to take shape, especially with its strong focus on bridges. However, only the last quarter of that century brought the first attempts of complex flood prevention initiatives. From the very beginning, the issue of regulating the river and developing its near surrounds raised heated arguments, with aesthetic values at the heart of the matter. The issue of developing riverside areas, particularly in the 20th and at the start of the 21st century caused similar debates, was widely discussed and sometimes became the object of contests. A number of studies and landscape analyses were carried out. Among the numerous proposals and realizations are: the amphitheatre in the Vistula bend, hotels, Museum of Japanese Art and Technology "Manggha", Kotlarski bridge, Kazimierz Gallery, Tadeusz Kantor Museum as well as many pedestrian overpasses and promenades.

A new approach to design of the diver detection sonar’s sounding pulse source is pre-sented. It is based on modules comprising 8 or 16 elements of the transducer grouped on the transmitting channel. The basic advantage of this solution is that it reduces significantly the number of group transmitters. The required output power and topology of the transmitters were determined through theoretical estimation and measurements in a four terminal network. Measurements were taken of the frequency characteristics in the transducer modules includ-ing the compensation system used. It is demonstrated that the source level is most irregular in the transducer under examination when the transducer’s voltage has a constant amplitude, i.e. with parallel compensation. It is also demonstrated that by appropriately selecting ele-ments for a series compensation of the transducer, the frequency characteristics becomes more regular and source level is increased at the extreme ends of the working bandwidth. The result is a compensated characteristics on the receiving side.

The fast development of electronic technology and digital signal processing methods makes electronic devices, including sonar systems ones, obsolete very quickly. On the other hand the ships mechanical components including mechanical parts of sonars are operational for a few dozens of years. It makes good opportunity to modernize these devices by using modern electronic devices and new digital signal processing methods with application of existing antenna and mechanical systems. The paper presents the modernization of ASW sonar SQS-56 on the Polish frigate ORP “Kościusko”. The aim of modernization, the new parameters of the sonar and block diagram after modernization are presented.

When sonars are used for military purposes they have to ensure unobtrusive operation, afeature that can be potentially secured by ‘silent sonars’ or continuous wave frequency modulation sonars (CW FM sonars). The article presents how these sonars operate and identifies the relations between their parameters. The Doppler effect and its impact on the CW FM sonar are studied to identify how it affects the sonar’s parameters. The results of simplified theoretical calculations are supported with results of computer simulations of a more realistic model.

Opis:
A garden is a testimony to the uniqueness of culture in time and place. Works of garden art quickly absorb new trends and fashions, are open to inspirations. The modern ones are often characterized by their diversity and an ability to stimulate different senses. The article presents landscapes created from anew - historical and modern gardens - unique 'living' objects of cultural heritage. It describes restoring hundred years old gardens and parks, and more modern ones, to their former glory. Examples of historical objects variously reconstructed and revalorized are given. Gardens which changed their function and are geared to receive a broader public, as well as those which commemorate the past. The second aspect addressed in the article is using historic models and references to the past in creating new landscapes, and also how this contributes to their educational value.

A polycrystalline ceramic of $0.5Bi_{0.95}Dy_{0.05}FeO_{3}-$ $0.5Pb(Fe_{2//3}W_{1//3})O_{3}$ was synthesized from a solid-state reaction method. At room temperature material exhibits both magnetic and electric dipolar properties simultaneously. Detailed X-ray diffraction analysis and Mössbauer effect studies have been done to determine the crystallographic structure and magnetic properties of $0.5Bi_{0.95}Dy_{0.05}FeO_{3}-$ $0.5Pb(Fe_{2//3}W_{1//3})O_{3}$. $T_{N}$ temperature was estimated at around 600 K.

W niniejszym artykule poruszono problematykę dotyczącą ochrony i planowania krajobrazu stanowiącą istotny element działalności architekta, architekta krajobrazu i planisty. Praca pokazuje przydatność archiwalnych źródeł kartograficznych dla współczesnych badań krajobrazowych (m.in. historii, przekształceń, kompozycji) i projektów rewaloryzacji. Przedmiotem badań są mapy katastralne – część austriackiego katastru gruntowego z połowy XIX w. sporządzonego dla celów podatkowych. Każdy z czterech rodzajów map (1. oryginały, pierworysy; 2. mapy ewidencyjne – litograficzne czystorysy; 3. tzw. „Wiedenki”, kolorowane odbitki map oryginalnych; 4. szkice indykacyjne, na których nanoszono zmiany), daje szereg cennych informacji, wykorzystywanych w badaniach. Treść map jest niesłychanie precyzyjna. Wadą jest brak ukształtowania terenu. Mapy katastralne są doskonałym materiałem źródłowym do badań historycznego krajobrazu.
This article discusses the issues of landscape conservation and planning, which constitutes a significant element of the professional activity of an architect, landscape architect and a planner. The paper highlights the value of archival cartographic sources for contemporary landscape research (including history, transformations and compositions) and revalorization projects. The subject of the study is the principal part of the Austrian land cadaster from mid 19th Century prepared for land tax – cadastral maps. There are four types of maps containing significant information of particular value for research: 1. originals – first drafts; 2. evidence maps; 3 ‘Viennese’ (‘Wiedenki’) – lithographic coloured copies of original maps; 4. indicative sketches to be subsequently amended. The content of the maps is extremely precise. Cadastral maps are an excellent source material for historic landscape research.

Świętość postrzegana jest jako specyficzna właściwość miejsca związana z religią, ale przymioty sacrum może zyskać każdy przedmiot, miejsce czy osoba. W artykule opisano szczególne miejsca związane z przeszłością i dziedzictwem narodowym, które poprzez swój charakter i znaczenie dla narodu tę szczególną właściwość posiadają. Opisano obiekty o różnej skali oddziaływania. Tak dominanty i dzieła monumentalne, które są doskonale wpisane w rozlegle układy urbanistyczne, jak i miejsca kameralne, które kształtowane były pod wpływem wierzeń, a często tragedii narodowych, co chyba najmocniej przyczynia się do sakralizacji przestrzeni.
Sacrality is seen as specific property of place connected with religion but the sacral status can be achieved by any object, place or person. The article describes specific places connected with the past and national heritage that have their own character and importance for the nation. Attention was given to the places of different scales of influence. Landmarks and monumental pieces that are perfectly incorporated into a wide urban composition are discussed. In addition, the article discusses secluded places, created under the influence of beliefs or national dramas; as having the most impact on the sacralization process.
