Opis:
This study was conducted in July 2016 around Putri Island and Cikiong Beach, Batujaya District, Karawang Regency, West Java - Indonesia to know the types of surficial sedimentary that makeup Putri Island. Field survey activities were carried out to collect sediment samples using a 1-meter long piston core. The sampling locations were carried out at five stations by considering representativeness and ease of accessibility. Sediment analysis using the sieve or granulometric method to produce grain size information on the phi (φ) scale. Sediment types were classified based on grain size using the Wentworth scale and followed by the Folk’s ternary diagram. The study results show that the sediment covering the bottom of the waters around Putri Island is composed of seven types of sediment, namely gravel, very coarse sand, coarse sand, medium sand, fine sand, very fine sand, and silt. It can be seen that sand dominates the sediment fraction which reaches 94% followed by 4% mud and 2% gravel. If classified based on the main component of the Folk’s ternary diagram, the seabed of this area has three types of sediment textures, namely slightly gravelly sand [(g) S], Sand [S], and gravelly sand [gS]. Judging from the constituent elements of the sediment, it can be said that the sedimentation that occurs in the study location is composed of alluvial deposits. The formation of this sediment is dominated by material carried by the river flow through fluvial and tidal processes.

Opis:
The observation and direct sampling, as well as laboratory tests of this research was conducted from June until October 2018. This study aims to determine the existence of microplastics in the sediment of water bodies in Kupang and Rote Districts based on the number, type, size and abundance of microplastics. The data used in this study include the type of sediment, microplastic abundance and the characteristics of the data collection area. Microplastics are plastic particles sized less than 5 mm, and in our research, were divided into 4 types: manifold fiber, fragment, film and pellets. Herein, 849 particles of microplastic were found: 635 fibers, 160 particle fragments, and 54 particle films. The primary influencing factor for microplastic deposition is the sedimentary texture itself. Sediments of a coarse type do not capture as much microplastic as do sediments of a finer texture. Data collection area characteristics also affect accumulation.

Opis:
The phenomenon of Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) can influence the variability of eddy in the Southern Java Ocean (SJO). The purpose of this research is to know the characteristics of eddy in the SJO at the time of the IOD condition. The research was conducted in Eastern Indian Ocean (EIO), South of the Java Island by coordinate 0º S – 15º S and 90º E – 120º E. The data used in this research is currents data, sea surface height (SSH) data, and temperature data from HYCOM, and Dipole Mode Index (DMI) data from Japan Marine Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). Methods used for detecting eddy is using the Automated Eddy Detection (AED) method. The results of this research show that the IOD phenomena affect the variability of eddies in the SJO, this is evidenced by the difference of the total eddies is generated at the time of normal conditions and at the time was going to the phenomenon of IOD. Total average eddies on IODM (+) conditions is 153 and on IODM (-) conditions is 144. IODM (+) conditions could cause the value of a central point of sea surface height (SSH) and sea temperature is lower than the normal conditions, the opposite IODM (-) conditions can cause the value of a central point of SSH and sea temperature is higher than the normal conditions.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of butterfly pea leaf as a source of carotenoids on the quality of the color of the heads of swordtail fish. The study was conducted at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Building 4, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University, from March to April 2019. The research method used an experimental approach with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. Those treatments are 0%, 1%, 6% and 12% of butterfly pea leaf meal. The parameters observed included changes in head color quality, absolute weight growth, absolute length growth and water quality. Color observation data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis analysis if there were differences between treatments. Multiple comparisons were performed with the Z test with a confidence level of 95%. Data on the length of growth rates and absolute weights were analyzed using analysis of variance via the F test. Here, 95% was set as the confidence level. If there were differences between treatments, this was followed by Duncan test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the addition of 6% butterfly pea leaf meal in commercial feed was able to improve the best color on the part of the swordtail fish head. This saw an average color score 9.56 and color value of 82.2. Addition of carotenoids in feed, however, did not significantly influence the growth of absolute weight or length and water quality.
