Opis:
Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases posing threat for our health. The most important method for eradicating of cancer cells is photoradiotherapy. Electrons accelerated by the accelerator are converted to photons in the process of bremsstrahlung. These photons are focused on diseased cells. Photon leaving accelerator head should assure a given dose intensity in cancer cells. Measuring of beam parameters at apparatus output is essential to determine the dose. In this study, Suleyman Demirel University research and education hospital in radiation Oncology department which has located at 18 MeV accelerator in energy gamma dose was measured.

In this study, inhibitor effects of thymol and carvacrol were investigated in vivo and in vitro on acetylcholinesterase enzyme of Drosophila melanogaster. IC₅₀ values, Ki constants and inhibition types were determined for the substances displaying inhibitory effect. In vivo studies, were performed on larvaes by considering IC₅₀ values. The surviving and mortality rates were determined for the solution applied to larvaes. IC₅₀ values of thymol and carvacrol were found to be 25 mM and 0.175 mM, respectively. By using Lineweaver-Burk graphs, it was found that both compounds show non-competitive type of inhibition. According to results, it was concluded that carvacrol is a more effective inhibitor than thymol. We believe that these findings will contribute to the development of more potent, specific and effective inhibitors against AChE enzyme, design of new drugs for treating Alzheimer's disease and studies in pharmacological applications.

Opis:
Adsorption of Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions onto the waste powdered activated sludge biomass (PWB), which was obtained from the biological wastewater treatment plant, was investigated in this experimental study. The effects of contact time, pH, temperature, initial sorbate and sorbent concentrations on the adsorption were determined. The BET surface area, pore volume, and pore diameter of PWB were found to be about 0.51 m2/g, 0.0053 cm3/g, and 41.4 nm, respectively. Considering the R2  value, qexp  and qcal , the Langmuir and Freundlich models were well described for Cu(II) and Ni(II) adsorption, respectively. The adsorption mechanism of Cu(II) and Ni(II) onto the PWB could be better simulated by the pseudo-second-order kinetic mechanism than the pseudo-first-order, intra particle diffusion and Elovich models. Thermodynamic aspects of the adsorption of heavy metals were also investigated. Considering the applied desorbing agents for reuse of PWB for Ni(II) recovery, desorption cycle is not feasible due to the deterioration of the PWB structure.

This research was conducted to address the experience of workplace violence of Turkish workers from different sectors and to investigate the impact of the exposed violence on their psychological well-being. Data were collected anonymously with printed questionnaires from the volunteer participants and depended on self-reporting. The response rate was 79.0% (1708/2161). The prevalence of workplace violence was found to be 44.8%. The most common type was verbal violence together with mobbing (bullying). Victims of physical violence were mostly males, whereas females were found to be victims of verbal, psychological and sexual violence. Most cases did not result in legal action and the victims remained silent. Psychological well-being of exposed workers in terms of depression, anxiety and stress seemed to deteriorate. Workplace violence remains a silent epidemic in Turkey. Preventive measures against workplace violence and social support for violated workers do not exist.

The Breit-Pauli approximation was used for relativistic contributions. The obtained values are compared with the experimental results from literature. The overall agreement between data obtained in this work and experimental data from literature can appear to be quite good being generally within 0.1% of experimental values.

Opis:
In this work, both hardware and software of a palm vein capture system have been designed and a prototype is produced. By using this system, a genuine database was created with age and gender information of volunteered test subjects. Widely used pre-processing, acquisition of feature vectors, and classification methods were tested on the database and results are compared with speed versus accuracy. All the modules used in hardware and software were determined as open source. Python has been chosen as a software module programming on a single board computer with Linux kernel. As a result, an appropriately running system has been built with both secure software and hardware interfaces having maximum accuracy at 95.33% while specificity is at 100%.

Soft/hard magnetic bilayers are attractive systems for investigating their physical behavior due to scientific curiosity and the potential for technological applications. Thus, 10 nm thick hard magnetic layer placed on a 20 nm soft magnetic layer was modeled in this work. After the constructing of magnetic thin films, the bilayer structure was simulated based on micro-magnetic modeling. When constructing the Hamiltonian of the system, magnetocrystalline anisotropy term was also under debate with classical Zeeman and exchange terms. Energy minimization in the simulation was performed using Metropolis algorithm and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MC-MC) method. As a result of modeling, hysteresis curves, remanent magnetization and coercive fields were obtained at different temperatures.

In this study, methyl jasmonate were applied to strawberry cultivars, and the pomological and biochemical characteristics of the fruits were investigated. The highest increase in fruit weight was determined in the Honeoye cultivar and it was detected in the application of 0.50 mM MeJa according to the control group. When the organic acid contents of fruits were examined, it was determined that the dominant acid was citric acid and the maximum range (Control: 1.49 g kg⁻¹; 0.50 mM MeJa: 16.49 g kg⁻¹) was in the Seascape cultivar. When the ellagic acid content of the fruits was examined, the highest increase (Control: 13.350 mg 100 g⁻¹, 0.25 mM MeJa: 22.768 mg 100 g⁻¹) was found in the Sweet Ann cultivar. In this study, it was determined that appropriate concentrations of MeJa should be preferred in cultivation of strawberry and these concentrations affected the fruit quality parameters.

The seeds of two safflower cultivars were investigated in order to determine their frictional and aerodynamic properties as a function of moisture content. The coefficients of dynamic friction of cultivars on aluminium, plywood, fibreglass and steel surfaces increased by 87, 56, 78, and 129% for cv. Remzibey-05 seed, and by 91, 31, 71, and 131% for cv. Dinçer seed, respectively, between the initial and final moisture content levels. The terminal velocities of the Remzibey-05 and Dinçer seeds increased by 15 and 11%, respectively, with increase in moisture content between the initial and final levels.

Opis:
Nuclear medicine is great for viewing the roles of body organs. Medical imaging in nuclear medicine takes radioactive pharmaceuticals and studies their path of progress through patient's body. The principles of nuclear medicine are different from those of diagnostic radiology. The nuclear medicine can study the functioning of body and how it actually works. On the other hand, usage of different kinds of radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine examinations can affect the dose rates. The purpose of our investigation was to estimate the effective dose from most common procedures, performed in nuclear medicine departments. We noted the injection radiation doses, which are used for diagnosis in nuclear medicine clinics. Later patient radiation doses were calculated, according to models recommended in ICRP 106.
