Opis:
Usually porous metals are known as relatively excellent characteristic such as large surface area, light, lower heat capacity, high toughness and permeability for exhaust gas filter, hydrogen reformer catalyst support. The Ni alloys have high corrosion resistance, heat resistance and chemical stability for high temperature applications. In this study, the Ni-based porous metals have been developed with Hastelloy powder by gas atomization and water atomization in order to find the effects of powder shape on porous metal. Each Hastelloy powder is pressed on disk shape of 2 mm thickness with 12 tons using uniaxial press machine. The specimens are sintered at various temperatures in high vacuum condition. The pore properties were evaluated using Porometer and microstructures were observed with SEM.

Opis:
Helicobacter pylori (Hp) specific antigens were found deposited in the glomeruli in some kidney diseases. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain to be elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cytotoxin associated gene A protein (CagA), a key virulence factor of Hp, on mouse podocytes. Cells were cultured and treated with recombinant CagA protein. The expression of the tight junction protein ZO-1 and p38 MAPK signaling pathway activation were measured with real-time RT-PCR and western blotting. The filtration barrier function of podocytes was evaluated with albumin influx assay. CagA decreased the expression and membrane distribution of ZO-1, impaired the filtration barrier function of podocytes, while activating p38 MAPK signaling pathway in these cells. Selective p38 MAPK inhibition partly prevented CagA-induced filtration barrier dysfunction of podocytes through ameliorating ZO-1 downregulation. Taken together, the results suggested that CagA, at least via p38 MAPK signaling pathway, may induce podocyte injury. Anti-Hp therapy may be beneficial for the treatment of kidney diseases related to Hp antigen deposition.

Opis:
Intermetallic γ-TiAl alloy has excellent properties at high temperatures and is thus attracting attention as a substitute for nickel-based superalloy parts for turbine engines. However, γ-TiAl alloy is reported to be a difficult material to be machined due to its low ductility at room temperature, tensile strength, and thermal conductivity. in this study, a system capable of measuring thrust force (Tf) and torque (Tc) during the drilling process was constructed, and drilling processability according to the heat treated microstructure of γ-TiAl alloy was compared. As a result, it was confirmed that the thrust and torque of the γ-TiAl alloy having a microstructure in which the grains were refined by the heat treatment process was relatively low and rapidly stabilized, which is advantageous for drilling.

Opis:
To improve crop yield, DNA technology has been used to enhance plant resistance toward pathogens and pests. Genes identified through understanding of host-pathogen interactions in viral, bacterial and fungal diseases, the mechanism of hypersensitive reaction in Arabidopsis and insect toxicity of natural peptides are used for their expression in plants. Progress on the use of simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers for resistance gene identification, development of virus-specific antibody gene expression in plants for virus control, construction of genes for multi-pathogen resistance, and use of viral vectors for gene efficiency evaluation are discussed.
