Red mud is a kind of solid waste produced during alumina extraction from bauxite. To extraction valuable iron from red mud, the technology of adding sodium sulfate-segregation roasting-magnetic separation to treat red mud was developed. During the paper, the effects of various process parameters on the extraction of iron by segregation roasting-magnetic separation were studied, and the phase transformation behavior and microstructure of iron are explored. Repeated test results showed that magnetic concentrate (mass percent), TFe of 80.29 % and overall iron recovery of 92.08 %was obtained. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated that after the segregation roasting, the hematite was transformed into a new metal phase consisting mainly of metallic iron and magnetite. The addition of sodium sulfate during the segregation roasting can obviously improve the efficiency of segregation roasting-magnetic separation for iron extraction.

ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to determine the lag between exposure to air pollutants and changes in human eosinophil counts.Material and MethodsThis was a retrospective study employing 246 425 physical examination records dated December 2013 – December 2016 from Chengdu, China. The authors determined the prevalence of individuals with eosinophil counts above the normal reference range each day. A distributed lag non-linear model was used to evaluate the lagged effect of each air pollutant on eosinophil counts. The lagged effects of each air pollutant were counted and presented with smoothing splines.ResultsThe effects of air pollutants such as particulate matter (PM2.5, aerodynamic diameters <2.5 μm; PM10, aerodynamic diameters <10 μm), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) were evaluated. In women, the effects of PM2.5 (RR = 1.154, 95% CI: 1.061–1.255) and PM10 (RR = 1.309, 95% CI: 1.130–1.517) reached the maximum values on lag day 0. In men, there was no significant effect of PM2.5, but significant effects of PM10 were found for lag days 20–28. The effects of NO2 and O3 on eosinophils were not statistically significant for either gender.ConclusionsThe air pollutants of PM10 have a significant effect on human eosinophils for both women and men, but with different temporal patterns, with women showing a lag of 0–5 days and men showing a lag of 20–28 days. In addition, PM2.5 was significant for women with a lag of 0–3 days but it was not significant for men.

Fibers with low gum content were extracted from the bark of mulberry branches by a combination of bacteria and peroxide treatments. The bark of mulberry branches, with 30% cellulose, is a copious and inexpensive source of natural fibers. However, fibers extracted by microwave, enzyme or alkali had a high gum content (15.5% for hemicellulose and 8.6% for lignin), which rendered them difficult to be made into high- value textiles. In this research, strains with high polygalacturonase activities and subsequent hydrogen peroxide decreased the hemicellulose content to 2.5% and lignin content to 2.4%. Mulberry fibers in our study could be spun into yarns with a fineness of 18.2 tex. Compared to flax yarns, mulberry fiber yarns had a tenacity 20% higher, an elongation 18% higher and an unevenness 30% lower. Cotton/mulberry fiber fabrics had softer and smoother hand than cotton/flax fabrics. Overall, the fibers in our study show better potential for industrial textile applications than those in previous studies.
Kora gałęzi morwy jest bogatym i niedrogim źródłem włókien naturalnych. W pracy przedstawiono proces otrzymywania włókien z kory morwy z wykorzystaniem szczepów bakteryjnych oraz nadtlenku wodoru, co zmniejszyło zawartość hemicelulozy do 2,5% i zawartości ligniny do 2,4%. W porównaniu do przędz lnianych, przędze z włókien morwy wykazywały o 20% wyższą wytrzymałość, o 18% wyższe wydłużenie i o 30% niższą nierównomierność. Tkaniny bawełniane z dodatkiem morwy miały bardziej miękki i gładszy chwyt, niż tkaniny bawełniane z dodatkiem lnu. Stwierdzono, że metoda pozyskiwania włókien z kory morwy przy zastosowaniu bakterii i nadtlenku wodoru może być stosowana do wyodrębniania włókien morwowych w celu produkcji wyrobów o wysokiej wartości i szerokim spektrum możliwości zastosowań przemysłowych.

Surface roughness is an important indicator in the evaluation of machining and product quality, as well as a direct factor affecting the performance of components. A rapidly developing filtering technology has become the main means of extracting surface roughness. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is constantly updating and improving the standard system for filtering technology in order to meet the requirements of technological development. Based on the filters already accepted by the international standard ISO 16610, this study briefly introduces the filtering principle of each filter, reviews the development of each filter in the application of surface roughness, and compares the advantages and limitations of their individual performances. The application range of each filter is summarized and, finally, the future direction of the digital filtering used in surface roughness is extrapolated.

This paper presents a study on the specific features of traditional Chinese pavilions. The sources investigated during the study expanded the authors’ outlook on the expression of national characteristics in Chinese architecture as a whole, and became the basis for concluding that the pavilion can act as a vehicle for national identity. In their study, the authors focused solely on researching the architecture of small Chinese pavilions. It was concluded that the architecture of pavilions should be considered together with the general principles of Chinese philosophy, culture, religions, landscape design, the architecture of purely garden pavilions-as together with pavilions with other uses and it allows us to identify similarities and differences between pavilions of various types. Based on the transfer of information from the fundamental sources to specific layouts and landscape paintings of Suzhou gardens in this study, those landscape techniques that were formed based on Feng Shui and their symbolic meaning were concretized in the conclusions. The discussion focuses on the repair, renovation and reinforcement of timber structures susceptible to the effects of aggressive external factors (rainfall, insects, technical wood pests, fire) using methods acceptable in conservation.
W artykule określono specyfikę tradycyjnych pawilonów chińskich. Przedstawiono pogląd autorów na temat sposobu przekazywania cech narodowych w całej architekturze chińskiej, co stało się podstawą do potwierdzenia wniosków o pawilonie jako nośniku znaków tożsamości narodowej. Autorzy skupili się na analizie małych pawilonów z terytorium Chin. Ich wystrój architektoniczny należy rozpatrywać w powiązaniu z ogólnymi zasadami projektowania krajobrazu w Chinach oraz architekturą pawilonów ogrodowych o innych funkcjach, co pozwala na identyfikację wspólnych i odmiennych cech różnych typów pawilonów. Opierając się na przeniesieniu przez autorów przedstawionego studium informacji z wybranych źródeł do konkretnych układów i pejzaży ogrodów Suzhou, w konkluzjach scharakteryzowano te działania krajobrazowe, które powstały z wykorzystaniem Feng Shui, oraz ich symboliczne znaczenie. Podjęto również tematykę naprawy, renowacji i wzmacniania konstrukcji drewnianych podatnych na działania agresywnych czynników zewnętrznych (opady atmosferyczne, owady szkodniki techniczne drewna, ogień) przy użyciu metod akceptowalnych konserwatorsko.

The influence of external and internal factors on the formation of the figurative language of the burial murals of the Han period has been analyzed. The ancient Chinese burial murals in the tombs of the Han era are known much less than traditional Chinese painting and architecture. Therefore, using the methods of historical analysis, comparative analysis, the analytical method and graph-analytical method, the influence of the worldview and religious ideas of the Han period on the figurative language of the murals of tombs was determined, and the main plot compositions and descriptions of typical performance techniques were listed. The specificity of the frescoes of the Han period was that they were composed of individual details—hollow bricks or stone slabs painted outward on a white base. They were numbered and installed in the appropriate places. It is believed that it was the funeral frescoes of the Han era that became an innovative breakthrough in painting towards a realistic, rather than fantastic and mystical, depiction of the world.
W artykule przeanalizowano wpływ czynników zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych na kształtowanie się języka figuratywnego malowideł funeralnych z okresu dynastii Han. Starożytne chińskie ścienne malowidła funeralne w grobowcach z epoki Han są znacznie mniej znane niż tradycyjne chińskie malarstwo i architektura. W związku z powyższym za pomocą metod analizy historycznej, analizy porównawczej, metody analitycznej i metody analityczno- graficznej określono wpływ światopoglądu i idei religijnych okresu dynastii na język figuratywny malowideł grobowców, tematykę głównych kompozycji i opisy. Wymieniono także typowe techniki wykonawcze. Specyfika fresków z okresu dynastii Han polegała na tym, że składały się z pojedynczych elementów – cegły drążonej lub kamiennych płyt pomalowanych na zewnątrz, na białej podstawie. Zostały one ponumerowane, a następnie zainstalowane we właściwych miejscach. Uważa się, że właśnie freski pogrzebowe z epoki Han stały się przełomem w malarstwie w kierunku realistycznego, a nie fantastycznie mistycznego odzwierciedlenia świata.

In this paper, sodium oleate, polyacrylamide, soluble starch and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose were used as flocculants to study the flocculation and sedimentation behavior of microfine ilmenite. Sedimentation test shows that sodium oleate and polyacrylamide have good flocculation effect on ultrafine ilmenite. The flocculation rate of ilmenite can be further improved by the combination of sodium oleate and polyacrylamide. It was found that both flocculants could generate chemical adsorption with ilmenite surface, and they all react with $Fe^{3+}$ on ilmenite surface. However, sodium oleate reacts with $Fe^{3+}$ to form a water-insoluble iron oleate precipitate which coats the surface of the ilmenite and hinders the action of polyacrylamide and the remaining $Fe^{3+}$. This problem can be avoided by adding polyacrylamide followed by sodium oleate, and the flotation recovery can be increased significantly.

Opis:
Aerodynamic drag plays an important role in high-speed trains, and how to reduce the aerodynamic drag is one of the most important research subjects related to modern railway systems. This paper investigates a design method for large-scale streamlined head cars of high-speed trains by adopting NURBS theory according to the outer surface characteristics of trains. This method first created the main control lines of the driver cab by inputting control point coordinates; then, auxiliary control lines were added to the main ones. Finally, the reticular region formed by the main control lines and auxiliary ones were filled. The head car was assembled with the driver cab and sightseeing car in a virtual environment. The numerical simulation of train flow field was completed through definition of geometric models, boundary conditions, and space discretization. The calculation results show that the aerodynamic drag of the high-speed train with large-scale streamlined head car decreases by approximately 49.3% within the 50-300 km/h speed range compared with that of the quasi-streamlined high-speed train. This study reveals that the high-speed train with large-scale streamlined head car could achieve the purpose of reducing running aerodynamic drag and saving energy, and aims to provide technical support for the subsequent process design and production control of high-speed train head cars.

Flotation is one of the most common and effective methods for the beneficiation of natural graphite resources. However, the upgrading efficiency of flotation is always finite due to the undesirable collection of gangue minerals. In this work, the collecting mechanism of three typical gangue minerals, including mica, quartz, and feldspar, in fine flake graphite flotation was investigated. Results of batch flotation tests for single-minerals and artificial mixtures confirmed the enhanced collection of gangues in the presence of graphite particles. Contact angle and zeta potential results and theoretical calculations of the interaction between graphite and gangue particles based on typical DLVO theory indicated that it is impossible to collect gangue minerals by true flotation or through heterocoagulation with graphite particles. The fitting results of accumulated gangue recoveries and accumulated water recoveries using the Warren method demonstrated that most gangue minerals entered the concentrate through entrainment, with a small proportion by bubble inclusions.

To promote the application of rubber-cement composites as the main bearing structure and key components in practical engineering under frequent dynamic disturbances, in this work, the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) cyclic impact tests of rubber-cement composite specimens with four different confine modes were carried out in which the impact load increased sequentially. The relationship between average strain rate, ultimate strain and impact times and the relationship between peak stress, damage energy, ultimate strain and incident energy were analyzed. The results showed that the appropriate confine reinforcement treatment can make rubber-cement composite give full play to its deformation ability when it was completely damaged. Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheet and steel cylinder can work together with the rubber-cement composite matrix to resist impact load, which effectively improves the structural strength, damage fracture energy, and cyclic impact resistance of the rubber-cement composite. Finally, based on the effect difference of confine modes, the simplified plane force models of rubber-cement composite specimens with four different confine modes were established, which clearly revealed the completely different impact resistance mechanism of the rubber-cement composites with different constraints under cyclic impact loading.

Many methods based on machine vision were used to estimate coarse particles size distribution in recent years, but comparison of accuracy parameters representing particle size has not been carried out and a related representing analysis has not been yet proposed. Nine parameters were investigated. The results indicated the minor axis of equivalent ellipse and breadth of the best-fit rectangle were the most suitable for representing particle size. The former accuracy ratio was 86.43% and the latter accuracy ratio was 85.39%, while the accuracy of other parameters was less than 70%. A related representing analysis was proposed to explain this phenomenon. This research is instructive and meaningful for the size distribution estimation by machine vision.
