A set $S$ of vertices of a graph $G$ is called a decycling set if $G−S$ is acyclic. The minimum order of a decycling set is called the decycling number of $G$, and denoted by $ \nabla(G)$. Our results include: (a) For any graph $G$, $ \nabla (G) = n - \max_T \{ \alpha (G- E(T)) \} $, where $T$ is taken over all the spanning trees of $G$ and $ \alpha (G − E(T)) $ is the independence number of the co-tree $ G − E(T) $. This formula implies that computing the decycling number of a graph $G$ is equivalent to finding a spanning tree in $G$ such that its co-tree has the largest independence number. Applying the formula, the lower bounds for the decycling number of some (dense) graphs may be obtained. (b) For any decycling set $S$ of a $k$-regular graph $G$, $ |S| = \frac{1}{k-1} (\beta (G) + m(S)) $, where $ \beta(G) = |E(G)|−|V (G)|+1 $ and $ m(S) = c+|E(S)|−1$, $c$ and $|E(S)|$ are, respectively, the number of components of $G − S$ and the number of edges in $G[S]$. Hence $S$ is a $ \nabla$-set if and only if $m(S)$ is minimum, where $ \nabla$-set denotes a decycling set containing exactly $ \nabla(G)$ vertices of $G$. This provides a new way to locate $ \nabla(G) $ for $k$-regular graphs $G$. (c) 4-regular graphs $G$ with the decycling number $ \nabla (G) = \ceil{ \tfrac{ \beta(G)}{3} } $ are determined.

In this paper, we investigate the number of Hamiltonian cycles of a generalized Petersen graph $ P(N, k) $ and prove that $ \Psi(P(N,3)) \ge N \cdot \alpha_N $, where $ \Psi (P(N, 3)) $ is the number of Hamiltonian cycles of $P(N, 3)$ and $ \alpha_N $ satisfies that for any $ \epsilon > 0 $, there exists a positive integer $M$ such that when $ N > M $, $ ((1− \epsilon ) \frac{ (1−r^3) }{6r^3+5r^2+3) }( 1/r )^{N+2} < \alpha_N < ( (1+ɛ) \frac{ (1−r^3) }{6r^3+5r^2+3) }( 1/r )^{N+2} $, where $ 1/r = \text{max} \{ | \frac{1}{r_j} | : j=1,2,…,6 \} $, and each $ r_j $ is a root of equation $ x^6 + x^5 + x^3 − 1 = 0 $, $ r \approx 0.782 $. This shows that $ \Psi (P (N, 3) $ is exponential in $N$ and also deduces that the number of 1-factors of $ P(N, 3)$ is exponential in $N$.

The reliability block diagram (RBD) is a graphical tool used for reliability modeling and analysis in various industries, including shipbuilding, aviation, and aerospace. Typically, RBDs are transformed into Bayesian networks for quantitative analysis of systems. Bayesian networks are probabilistic graphical models that can capture the uncertainties and causal relationships in complex systems. They can provide various reliability metrics such as failure probability, mean time to failure, availability, etc. However, these techniques have several drawbacks, especially for large-scale models, such as being extremely time and memory-consuming. To address these issues, we propose a hybrid method for quantitative analysis of large-scale RBDs based on the structure identification approach and binary decision diagrams. Theoretical analysis and case verification demonstrate that the proposed method is significantly more efficient than the current one.

In this study, the modified Sauer cavitation model and Kirchhoff-Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (K-FWH) acoustic model were adopted to numerically simulate the unsteady cavitation flow field and the noise of a three-dimensional NACA66 hydrofoil at a constant cavitation number. The aim of the study is to conduct and analyze the noise performance of a hydrofoil and also determine the characteristics of the sound pressure spectrum, sound power spectrum, and noise changes at different monitoring points. The noise change, sound pressure spectrum, and power spectrum characteristics were estimated at different monitoring points, such as the suction side, pressure side, and tail of the hydrofoil. The noise characteristics and change law of the NACA66 hydrofoil under a constant cavitation number are presented. The results show that hydrofoil cavitation takes on a certain degree of pulsation and periodicity. Under the condition of a constant cavitation number, as the attack angle increases, the cavitation area of the hydrofoil becomes longer and thicker, and the initial position of cavitation moves forward. When the inflow velocity increases, the cavitation noise and the cavitation area change more drastically and have a superposition tendency toward the downstream. The novelty is that the study presents important calculations and analyses regarding the noise performance of a hydrofoil, characteristics of the sound pressure spectrum, and sound power spectrum and noise changes at different monitoring points. The article may be useful for specialists in the field of engineering and physics.

Featured with a higher velocity, increased power handling capability, and better aging behavior, surface transverse wave (STW) shows more promising prospects than Rayleigh wave nowadays in various sensing applications. The need to design, optimize, and fabricate the related devices motivates the development of modeling and simulation. For this reason, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) simulation of STW on quartz, considering the crystal cut angle and the electrode effects, is presented in this study. Firstly, we investigated the effects of quartz’s cut angle on the generated waves. Here, the polarized displacements were analyzed to distinguish the wave modes. Secondly, the investigations of the electrode effects on the polarized displacement, phase velocity, and electromechanical coupling factor (K2) were carried out, for which different material and thickness configurations for the electrodes were considered. Thirdly, to examine the excitation conditions of the generated waves, the admittance responses were inspected. The results showed that not only the crystal cut angle but also the density and the acoustic impedance of the interdigital transducer (IDT) material have a strong influence on the excited waves. This article is the first to analyze STWs considering quartz’s cut angle and electrode effect through a 3D FE model. It could provide a helpful and easy way to design, optimize, and fabricate the related surface acoustic wave devices.

Rescheduling is the guarantee to maintain the reliable operation of production system process. In production system, the original scheduling scheme cannot be carried out when machine breaks down. It is necessary to transfer the production tasks in the failure cycle and replan the production path to ensure that the production tasks are completed on time and maintain the stability of production system. To address this issue, in this paper, we studied the event-driven rescheduling policy in dynamic environment, and established the usage rules of right-shift rescheduling and complete rescheduling based on the type of interference events. And then, we proposed the rescheduling decision method based on genetic algorithm for solving flexible job shop scheduling problem with machine fault interference. In addition, we extended the "mk" series of instances by introducing the machine fault interference information. The solution data show that the complete rescheduling method can respond effectively to the rescheduling of flexible job shop scheduling problem with machine failure interference.

The performance of a novel airfoil-based tube with dimples is numerically studied in the present work. The effect of Reynolds number Re, dimples number N, relative depth H/D, and cross-distribution angle α on flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed for Re in the range between 7,753 and 21,736. The velocity contour, temperature contour, and local streamlines are also presented to get an insight into the heat transfer enhancement mechanisms. The results show that both the velocity magnitude and flow direction change, and fluid dynamic vortexes are generated around the dimples, which intensify the flow mixing and interrupt the boundary layer, resulting in a better heat transfer performance accompanied by a certain pressure loss compared with the plain tube. The Nusselt number Nu of the airfoil-based tube increases with the increase of dimples number, relative depth, and Reynolds numbers, but the effect of cross-distribution angle can be ignored. Under geometric parameters considered, the airfoil-based tube with N = 6, H/D = 0.1, α = 0° and Re = 7,753 can obtain the largest average PEC value 1.23. Further, the empirical formulas for Nusselt number Nu and friction factor f are fitted in terms of dimple number N, relative depth H/D, and Reynolds number Re, respectively, with the errors within ± 5%. It is found that the airfoil-based tube with dimples has a good comprehensive performance.

In this work, the effect of magnetite with different particle sizes on the flotation performance of both coarse and fine hematite particles were investigated by using sodium oleate as a collector. The results showed that the magnetite particles with different particle sizes showed a negative effect on hematite (-106+45 μm) recovery, but the addition of magnetite with the same particle sizes as hematite during the direct flotation of -45 μm hematite was beneficial to improve the recovery of micro-fine hematite and the Fe grade of concentrate. The finer the magnetite particle was, the more obvious the agglomeration effect of hematite was. Therefore, the beneficial effect could be achieved by adjusting the particle sizes of particles. Moreover, sodium oleate was beneficial to promote the agglomeration of micro-fine magnetite and hematite. The results from the microscopic analysis, laser particle size analysis, and EDLVO calculation proved that there was an effective aggregation between fine magnetite and fine hematite particles, which increased the apparent size of hematite particles and the probability of the mineral particles adhering to bubbles, thus improving the hematite recovery.

The present study investigates the effects and mechanisms of aluminum (Al(III)) and iron (Fe(III)) ions on the flotation efficiency of potassium feldspar (K-feldspar) within oleate collector systems. The study employs micro-flotation experiments, solution chemistry calculations, zeta potential measurements, and FT-IR and XPS analyses to demonstrate that Al(III) and Fe(III) ions can significantly improve the flotation recovery of K-feldspar by altering its surface charge, bonding properties, and adsorption modes. The study also develops adsorption models for the flotation of K-feldspar activated by Al(III) and Fe(III), revealing the synergistic impacts of metal ion hydrolysis products and sodium oleate in the formation of hydrophobic complexes.

ObjectivesExposure to light at night (LAN) can disturb circadian endocrine and metabolic rhythms. Hyperuricemia (HUA) is an early-onset metabolic disorder. However, it is still not clear whether LAN exposure increases the prevalence of HUA.Material and MethodsThe authors used crosssectional data on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei occupational populations cohort from March–July 2017. A total of 7664 steel workers were finally selected to investigate the relationship between LAN exposure and the prevalence of HUA among steel workers. The authors collected demographic and socio-economic data, as well as information on lifestyle factors, anthropometric measures, and laboratory tests. The restricted cubic spline method was used to analyze the dose-response relationship between cumulative LAN exposure and the prevalence of HUA. Logistic regression analyses were used to fit the relationship between them.ResultsThe average age of the participants was 43.5±8.6 years; 7051 (91.7%) of them were males, 2749 (35.9%) reported to suffer from HUA, and 1241 (16.2%) were not exposed to LAN. There was a significant non-linear dose-response relationship between them. After adjustment for the confounding factors, including demographic data, lifestyle factors, etc., the lower LAN exposure was significantly associated with HUA (0–1931.7 days, OR = 1.180, and the 95% CI: 1.000–1.394; 1931.7–4343 days, OR = 1.215, 95% CI: 1.035–1.426).ConclusionsThis study revealed that a certain amount of exposure to LAN is independently related to the prevalence of HUA in steel workers in China.

The effect of the mixing method (normal and ethanol-assisted) on selected properties of natural rubber with butadiene rubber blends (NR/BR 80/20) was investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to evaluate the properties. In addition, the mechanical tensile properties, tear resistance and thermal aging, as well as vulcanization characteristic were determined. It was found that ethanol-assisted mixing can significantly improve the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the blends as a result of better dispersion of additives in the rubber matrix.
Zbadano wpływ metody mieszania (tradycyjna i wspomagana etanolem) na wybrane właściwości mieszanin kauczuku naturalnego z kauczukiem butadienowym (NR/BR 80/20). Do oceny właściwości zastosowano skaningową mikroskopię elektronową (SEM), spektroskopię w podczerwieni z transformacją Fouriera (FTIR) oraz analizę termograwimetryczną (TGA). Ponadto oznaczono właściwości mechaniczne przy rozciąganiu, odporność na rozdzieranie i starzenie termiczne, a także właściwości wulkanizacyjne. Stwierdzono, że mieszanie wspomagane etanolem może znacząco poprawić właściwości mechaniczne i stabilność termiczną mieszanin NR/BR, jako efekt lepszej dyspersji dodatków w osnowie gumowej.
