Opis:
In recent years, the improvement of engine performance and emissions has become an extremely important concern. This study focuses on the injection strategy based on the injection pressure (IP) and duration between pilot injection and the main injection (dMI) using a multi cylinder common rail multiple injections diesel engine. The study was designed to produce improvements in fuel mixing via the injection strategy, to reduce the main ignition delay. This would contribute to a minimum amount of fuel burnt in the premixed combustion phase, leading to a reduction in emissions. Recent evidence shows that premixed combustion is significant in the controlling of emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and soot. Six different IPs combined with a short and long dMI were compared in the attempt to improve engine performance and emissions. The engine performance was measured in terms of brake specific fuel consumption, ignition delay, heat release and peak in-cylinder pressure and emissions, specifically nitrogen oxides (NOx), total unburned hydrocarbons (THC), carbon monoxide (CO) and smoke emissions for each engine test condition. The evidence from this study shows that the effect of IP is more dominant than dMI in terms of peak cylinder pressure, heat release, brake specific fuel consumption and emissions. However, the dMI shows a strong effect at a higher engine speed.

Opis:
Particulate matter (PM) size distributions in the exhaust gas of biodiesel blend fuelled diesel engines have been studied by experimenting firstly on a single cylinder equipped with a pump-line-injector injection system and secondly for comparison on a V6 DI engine equipped with a common rail fuel injection system. Both engines were operated with a biodiesel (RME) blend of B30 and ultra low sulphur diesel fuel (ULSD). Several engine load conditions with and without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) were selected. Particulate number concentrations vs. the electrical mobility equivalent diameter were examined using a fast differential mobility spectrometer. The effect of engine operating conditions including EGR rates on particulate emissions has been investigated. It is found that PM sizes from combustion of B30 without EGR operation are generally smaller than those from ULSD while number concentrations are higher. This can result in lower PM mass estimates for the B30 case if due care is not taken. When EGR is applied to control nitrogen oxides emissions, both the total PM number and mass are increased and shifted toward the larger sizes for both fuels used in the test. The calculated total PM mass from B30 combustion is lower than in the ULSD case for all the tested engine operating conditions.

Applying a general theorem developed by Basar (1981), providing a set of sufficient conditions for a triple of strategies to be in hierarchical equilibrium, to games in normal (strategic) form, we study three-player Stackelberg games for linear quadratic discrete-time descriptor systems with three levels of hierarchy in decision making. We derive explicitly sufficient conditions for the existence of the memoryless hierarchical equilibrium strategies for the player (called P[sub 1]) at the top of the hierarchy, and for the player (called P[sub 2]) at the second level of the hierarchy. Since the resulting hierarchical equilibrium strategies do not depend on the memory information, P[sub 1]'s original optimal team cost remains the tight (attainable) lower bound for P[sub 1]'s cost function no matter whether the players at the lower levels of hierarchy act or not at the last two (or one) stages. Moreover, the resulting strategies have the advantages of simpler structure and higher credibility. A numerical example is solved to illustrate the validity of the results.

Opis:
Coastline is one type of valuable non-renewable resources. From the perspective of economic theory, it can gather population, promote traffic construction, and then improve the level of international trade. The research object of this paper is the coastline resource in Dafeng area. Firstly, we have a brief summary of the existing coastline evaluation literature, then introduce the location and natural attributes of the coastline resources in Dafeng. Following that, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model is used to build the economic evaluation index system based on the characteristics of coastline in Dafeng. Specially, this index system consists of 6 factors, and a total of 41 detailed indicators were chosen including water depth, GDP, etc. On this basis, we use the assignment method to quantify the weight of each index, and calculate the comprehensive score of coastline resource by using the YAAHP software. The final conclusion is as follows: The total score of economic evaluation of coastline resource in Dafeng is 0.87. Therefore, the coastline resource in Dafeng will eventually be constructed a unique coastal economic zone, where the implemented port industrial projects will include shipbuilding, logistics, mechanical processing etc.

Opis:
Numerous skills involving the introduction of (OP) opposed piston engine have been developed in the recent past. Indeed, novel techniques can help to improve the performance of the engine. The aim of this paper is to model and simulate a simple single-cylinder two-stroke opposed-piston engine and minimise fuel consumption and heat loss, using the software programme AVL BOOST™. AVL BOOST is an engine modelling software, which analyses the performance of a modelled single cylinder two-stroke opposed-piston engine by changing desired parameters. In order to meet this aim, experimental results from a unique engine are used to make a comparison with the results obtained from AVL BOOST model. Six combinations of compression ratios (12, 13.5, 15, 16.5, 18 and 19.5) are analysed in this study with the engine speed running at 420 rpm and 1500 rpm. In addition to the compression ratios, the effect of stroke-to-bore (S/B) ratios on OP2S performance is investigated. Various values of S/B ratios, whilst maintaining a constant swept volume, port geometry and combustion timing, and their effect on fuel consumption and heat loss are analysed in this study. A comparison between the two engine speeds with increasing combinations of compression ratios, and the S/B ratios revealed minimal differences in peak pressure, peak temperature, IMEP, ISFC, indicated efficiency and total heat loss. Detailed analyses of these parameters are highlighted in discrete sections of this paper.

The combined influence of silicon content and oxygen concentration on silicon-containing steels was investigated, via a heating route similar to that applied in the industrial reheating process, using a Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer (STA). Four different oxygen concentrations and three different isothermal holding times were designed. The results show that the effect of silicon on the mass gain depends on the oxygen concentration and the oxidation time. The mass gain of low-silicon steel is greater than that of high-silicon steel at 1260°C in the oxygen concentrations of 1.0 vol.% and 2.0 vol.%, even when the isothermal holding time is 90 minutes. However, there is a critical time point for mass gain in oxygen concentrations ≥3.0 vol.%. The mass gain of lowsilicon steel is greater before and smaller after this critical point. The critical time is deferred with decreasing oxygen concentration.

In this study, medium-carbon steel was subjected to warm deformation experiments on a Gleeble 3500 thermosimulator machine at temperatures of 550°C and 650°C and strain rates of 0.001 s-1 to 1 s-1. The warm deformation behavior of martensite and the effects of strain rate on the microstructure of ultrafine grained medium-carbon steel were investigated. The precipitation behavior of Fe3C during deformation was analyzed and the results showed that recrystallization occurred at a low strain rate. The average ultrafine ferrite grains of 500 ± 58 nm were fabricated at 550°C and a strain rate of 0.001 s-1. In addition, the size of Fe3C particles in the ferrite grains did not show any apparent change, while that of the Fe3C particles at the grain boundaries was mainly affected by the deformation temperature. The size of Fe3C particles increased with the increasing deformation temperature, while the strain rate had no significant effect on Fe3C particles. Moreover, the grain size of recrystallized ferrite decreased with an increase in the strain rate. The effects of the strain rate on the grain size of recrystallized ferrite depended on the deformation temperature and the strain rate had a prominent effect on the grain size at 550°C deformation temperature. Finally, the deformation resistance apparently decreased at 550°C and strain rate of 1 s-1 due to the maximum adiabatic heating in the material.

The cambial activity and periodicity of secondary xylem and phloem formation have been less studied in tropical tree species than in temperate ones. Cambium activity is the only source of timber production. Studies on its activity and xylem formation can provide helpful data for dendrochronology and possible factors that control tree growth, the yield and quality of wood. Cinnamomum camphora is an important fast-growing tree for furniture and sculpture wood in South China. Its dynamics of cambial activity was not reported. During the growth season in 2011, five trees of Cinnamomum camphora plantation were monitored on the campus of Huazhong Agricultural University in central china (located on 113°41’ to 115°05’ E and 29°58’ to 31°22’ N). Sampling time was from 13, February 2011 to 13, February 2012. Some small stems of 15–20 cm length were selected to sample in the middle of 2–3 years old health branches in the central crown of these trees. The observational study found that the cambium of camphor trees was active from March to October and dormant from November to February. Onset of cambial cell division was observed in early March, one week after sprouting of new buds. The morphology of the cells and number of cell layers in the cambium zone varied throughout the year. In early March, cambium reactivated with the rising of temperature, the cell wall was relative thick. The number of cell layers increased from 2–3 in middle Feb. to 3–5. In June, the number of cell layers in cambium reached the maximum of 5–7 in a radial direction. In mid March, phloem cells began to differentiate, followed by xylem three weeks later. The number of cell layers in immature phloem and xylem increased dramatically before mid June and the increment of cell layers in xylem was almost fifth times of phloem in the differentiating process. The phloem cells mainly stopped dividing new cells in end of October, but xylem cells were still in the activity a week later. The annual activities of cambium was in accordance with the air mean temperature change in 2011–2012. The results showed that the cambial activity and formation of xylem and phloem were related to the environmental factors, especially the temperature.

Despite over 40 years of research on the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) vaccine, we still lack a considerable progress. Equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV) is a lentivirus in the Retroviridae family, akin to HIV-1 in genome structure and antigenicity. EIA is an important infectious disease in equids, characterized by anemia, persistent infection, and repeated fevers. The EIAV attenuated vaccine in China is the only lentiviral vaccine used on a large scale. Elucidating the mechanism of waning and induction of protective immunity from this attenuated vaccine strain will provide a critical theoretical basis and reference point for vaccine research, particularly in the development of lentivirus vaccines, with far-reaching scientific value and social significance. In this paper, we summarize the information related to EIAV integration site selection, particularly for the Chinese EIAV attenuated vaccine strains on the equine genome. This may improve our mechanistic understanding of EIAV virulence reduction at the host genome level. The obtained data may help elucidate the biological characteristics of EIAV, particularly the Chinese attenuated EIAV vaccine strain, and provide valuable information regarding retroviral infections, particularly lentiviral infection and associated therapeutic vectors.

Investigation of the embedded chains in soil starts to play an important role in understanding the structural performance of mooring system, when the embedded anchors will be employed to sustain large loads with the gradually growth of installation depth of offshore aquaculture farm. The aim of this study is to investigate the dynamic response of mooring line considering the influence of embedded chains in clay soil for net cage system. Lumped-mass method is used to establish the numerical model for evaluating the performance of mooring line with embedded chains. To validate the numerical model, comparisons of numerical results with the analytical formulas and the experimental data are conducted. A good agreement of the profile and the tension response is obtained. Then, the effect of embedded chains on the static and dynamic response of mooring line is evaluated, and the dynamic behavior of mooring system considering embedded chains for net cage system is investigated. The results indicate that the soil resistance on embedded chains should be included to predict the mooring line development and the load on the embedded anchors in the numerical simulations. An appropriate safety factor should be included if employing the simplified model Case C at the initial design phase. And the effect of embedded chains on the holding capacity of embedded anchors in single-point mooring system for single net cage cannot be negligible during the design and operation phases. Consequently, it is profound to take into account the interaction of embedded chains and soil for accurately predicting the reliability of mooring system for fish cage.

Synchronization signals are requisite for calibrating electrical measurement devices with digital output when using conventional calibration methods. However, since the signal sampling process of the analogue merging units (MUs) operating in an intelligent substation does not rely on external synchronization signals, accuracy calibration without the use of synchronization signals is of particular importance in order to guarantee the measurement accuracy in practical situations. So far, very little research on calibration systems independent of synchronization signals has been performed. This paper presents a design of the calibration system without dependence on synchronization signals. To verify the feasibility of the proposed design, the designed system and a conventional calibration system have been employed in testing the accuracy of the same analogue MU of a 0.2 accuracy class. The comparison of the test results shows that the differences of ratio errors are below 0.02%, and the maximum difference of phase errors is about 4′. This paper also provides a new efficient and significant calibration method which does not require any external synchronization signals.

Opis:
Numerical simulation of elastic human body deformation and dynamic pressure and displacement distribution are critical for pressure comfort and optimal design of apparel products. This paper demonstrates an analytical method for simulating dynamic pressure and displacement at the top part of men’s socks using the finite element method (FEM). The dynamic pressure is divided into two parts: the first is pressure with time, and the second is pressure with walking. Pressure with time is set at six periods (maximum 12 h). After measuring pressure values in different periods of time and simulating pressure and displacement distribution using ANSYS software, the tendency of pressure and displacement changes with time at the top part of men’s socks can be obtained. We divided the walking process into four phases to analyse the variation rule of pressure and displacement changes with movement in this research work. Meanwhile the lower leg cross section is divided into four equal regions according to the angle, and dynamic changes in the area shrinkage mass of each region can be calculated, respectively. All these solutions provide a theoretical reference for the optimal design of the top part of men’s socks.
