Opis:
Removal of water soluble Reactive Black KN-B from aqueous media by means of titanium dioxide/attapulgite (TiO2/ATP) composites was studied in a batch system. The composites were investigated using X-ray diffraction and surface area analysis. Under UV irradiation, the photocatalytic effect of TiO2/ATP composites, pH and reaction temperature on the decolorization rate of Reactive Black KN-B were investigated in detail. The adsorption experiments of TiO2/ATP composites showed that the isotherms and adsorption kinetics were well followed by the Langmuir model and the zero order equation, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of TiO2/ATP composites for Reactive Black KN-B calculated by the Langmuir model was 20.08 mg g-1. It can be concluded that the TiO2/ATP composites could be good photocatalysts/adsorbents for treating Reactive Black KN-B wastewater.

Ideas concerning the use of magnetooptic materials to control spatial solitons are introduced. It is shown that control of spatial solitons can be achieved through the use of TM modes TE-TM interactions. Potential functions can be defined through a Lagrangian analysis and optimisation is possible to facilitate energy transfer between TE and TM waves.

Opis:
The magnetooptics of an asymmetric layered waveguide structure is discussed to investigate the possibility of creating new devices that combine both nonreciprocity and nonlinearity. After addressing some fundamental magnetooptic properties and the kind of materials needed, a straightforward envelope theory is given that exploits the Voigt effect instead of the more obvious Faraday effect. It is emphasised that this choice leads to desirable design features. It is proposed that the introduction of an applied magnetic field to a waveguide structure can be achieved through the use of thin current-carrying strips. It is emphasised that the strips can be arranged to any degree of complexity and that a high degree of control over spatial soliton dynamics can be achieved. Spatial soliton light beams are selected because they can be generated, within a waveguide, in a stable form. The attractive features of using the type of magnetooptic waveguide investigated here are highlighted with examples and it is concluded that the formats proposed can be used for the fully integrated isolator capacity that modern laser systems demand.

Opis:
The dynamics of solitary waves in second-order nonlinear materials are discussed using a multiple scales model. After making some comments on the applicability of other perturbation techniques the multiple scales approach is developed with a view to setting up a line of approach that, in principle, permits radiative effects to be modelled. After a closure condition is applied, equations for the evolution of dynamical variables are developed. Applications of these equations to loss and interactions are presented together with confirmation from numerical simulations. It is emphasised that the method is capable of extension to higher-order perturbations and, hence, into the solitary wave fusion region. The established interpretation of quasi-phase-matching fluctuations as loss is discussed and the simple problems of soliton (solitary wave) pair interactions in both loss-free and lossy media are analysed.

Some regularities of mass transfer in quasi-ideal cascades with losses at their stages are investigated. Simple relationships to evaluate the influence of losses on the integral characteristics of quasi-ideal cascades under the condition of the low factors of losses are obtained. The optimum parameters of a match-abundance ratio cascade, which is a special case of a quasi-ideal cascade, under the condition of the minimum total flow in a cascade are found.

Opis:
This paper deals with the design of an interval state estimator for linear time-varying (LTV) discrete-time systems subject to component faults and uncertainties. These component faults and uncertainties are assumed to be unknown but bounded without giving any other information, whose effect can be approximated using these bounds. In the first part of this work, an interval state estimator for such systems is designed to deal with these component faults and uncertainties. The result is then extended to find an interval state estimator for a noncooperative LTV discrete-time system subject to component faults and uncertainties by similarity transformation of coordinates. The proposed interval state estimator guaranteed bounds on the observed states that are consistent with the system states. The observer convergence is also ensured. The designed method is simple and easy to be implemented. Two numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Opis:
A plenum window with incorporation of Helmholtz resonators in between two glass panes was tested in a reverberation room. The effects of jagged flap on reducing strength of diffracted sound was also investigated in the present studies where white, traffic and construction noises were examined Turing each set of experiment. When the noise source was located at the central line of the plenum window, the plenum window with Helmholtz resonators was able to mitigate 8.5 dBA, 8.9 dBA and 8.2 dBA of white, traffic and construction noises, respectively, compared with the case of without window. These amounts of noises that attenuated by the plenum window were slightly higher than the case where noise source was diverged 30° away from the plenum window. The effects of jagged flaps on the acoustical performance of the plenum window were negligible. The Helmholtz resonators had the best performance in the frequency region between 900 Hz to 1300 Hz where in this frequency range, the plenum window with Helmholtz resonators was able to attenuate additional 1.7 dBA, 1.9 dBA and 1.6 dBA of white, traffic and construction noises, respectively, compared with the case of without resonators.
